Selina had been standing right there as she rubbed her clammy palms. The moment she saw Zane emerge looking dazed and disheveled, she stepped forward.
"What did you do to Sean?" she asked, her voice sharp with unease.
Zane didn't answer.
"I hope you haven't said or done anything stupid. Whatever happened there, it's because I allowed him to be here. You shouldn't blame him and it doesn't have to bother you when you've always been around Maura," she pressed sternly.
Her defensive words stopped Zane cold this time. He stood with his back to her, feeling the sting of her loyalty shifting away from him.
"Are you that worried about Sean?" Zane murmured.
Selina's brows furrowed, her expression icy. "Yes. I see no reason not to worry about someone who actually cares for me."
"What do you think about him?"
"A lot. He's different," she replied unapologetically.
Hearing that, a humorless snort slipped from Zane's nostrils as he dipped his head in disbelief.
