Volume 1 Chapter 245: Late Night
"Why is giving a bath this exhausting?!"
Ning Chu stumbled out of the bathroom, panting, completely soaked from head to toe.
She might as well have just stripped down and bathed with Black Bean—it would've made no difference.
She grabbed a fresh towel from the wardrobe and walked back into the bathroom. Wrapping Black Bean tightly in it, she then took her own hair towel and bundled up Black Bean's head as well.
Black Bean stood there stiffly, looking like she had given up on life, letting Ning Chu do whatever she wanted.
It looked like she was in shock.
"You're taking a bath every night from now on. No more stinking up the place."
Ning Chu wasn't the least bit sympathetic—if anything, she found it so ridiculous it made her laugh.
"You're a person now! Not a cat anymore!"
Black Bean turned her head and muttered,
"It was better being a cat."
She was already half a year old, and she had already taken baths twice.
Just the thought of being forced into a bath every day from now on made her feel like life had lost all meaning.
Her eyes looked totally dead, like a toy that had been broken.
Ning Chu sighed, pulling her over to the mirror and drying her hair with the towel.
"Once your hair's dry, you can eat barbecue."
The lifeless eyes instantly lit up.
"Okay!"
At this point in Black Bean's life, eating was the ultimate goal.
Ning Chu gave a wry smile. After roughly drying her hair, she turned on the blow dryer—
And in the next second, Black Bean leapt into the air and darted into the corner of the room like lightning.
"Unbelievable..."
Afraid of water and afraid of appliances.
But honestly, considering she was a literal cat just yesterday, it wasn't too surprising for the cat girl to still regain her more cat-like habit.
"Come here! You want barbecue or not?!"
Black Bean had curled up on the sofa, glancing at the takeout box on the coffee table, then back at Ning Chu standing at the mirror with the blow dryer—clearly conflicted.
"Come!"
"Mooom~ Can't I just air dry?"
"I mean... I guess. Come here then, I'll towel you off a bit more."
After all, she used to be a short-haired cat... so even now as a cat girl, her hair was still short.
While the room was still lively and chaotic, the front door suddenly opened.
Wen Yang stepped inside, and the scene before him left him a bit stunned.
The girl in front of him was soaking wet. Her thin white long-sleeved shirt clung tightly to her skin, outlining her slim waist and the gentle curves of her chest. The damp fabric subtly revealed the shape of her underwear beneath.
Disheveled and sensual.
Black Bean, on the other hand, was wrapped up in a towel, with only her shoulders and lower legs exposed. Just a ten-year-old brat—not worth looking at.
"Back already?"
Ning Chu was still focused on drying Black Bean's hair and even gave her fluffy cat tail a wipe-down with the towel, completely unaware of Wen Yang's slightly unsteady gaze.
"Yeah. A round trip by cab only takes about half an hour."
"This cat threw such a fit over a bath—almost killed me."
She sighed in frustration, then tossed the towel aside and adjusted Black Bean's towel to be a bit more modest.
"Go ahead. Go eat your barbecue."
"Yay!!"
Black Bean darted off toward the coffee table without hesitation.
"I'm gonna shower too. I'm soaked... Wen Yang, keep an eye on Black Bean, okay?"
Wen Yang swallowed hard, glanced at Black Bean tearing into the takeout box, then stepped toward Ning Chu, who was rummaging through the wardrobe for pajamas.
Getting close to her side, he lowered his voice and asked hopefully,
"Wanna... shower together?"
Ning Chu's hand froze, and she didn't reply—but he could clearly see her pale neck flush a deep pink.
Delighted, he reached toward the wardrobe to grab some pajamas for himself, but was smacked away by Ning Chu.
"Scram!"
Black Bean's still in the room, damn it!
A 'shower together'? Seriously?!
Sooner or later, Black Bean's going to be corrupted at this rate!
Ning Chu turned back and shot Wen Yang a shame-filled, annoyed glare before grabbing a set of pajamas and storming into the bathroom.
Wen Yang could only sigh helplessly.
He walked over and sat at the edge of the bed, watching Black Bean chow down on skewers, her mouth gleaming with oil.
He pulled out a few tissues and handed them to her.
"Wipe your mouth."
"Yes!"
Gotta admit—having a daughter kind of felt great.
Watching Black Bean's adorable antics quickly eased the sting of being rejected just now. He chuckled, teasing,
"Can I have a bite too?"
Black Bean paused and hesitantly looked at him.
"J-Just one bites?"
"Mm. I want the one with the most meat—the drumstick."
Her expression drooped.
Looking pitiful, she picked up the chicken drumstick and held it to Wen Yang's mouth.
"Dad, just eat a little, okay?"
One bite later, half the meat was gone.
Black Bean stood frozen, her eyes slowly welling up with tears.
Wen Yang panicked and quickly tried to soothe her.
"Dad will buy you two drumsticks tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay!"
Seeing her beam with joy, Wen Yang suddenly had this sneaking suspicion he was being played by this cat girl.
"From now on, remember—call me 'brother,' and call Ning Chu 'sister,' okay?"
"Mm-hmm!"
Wen Yang smiled and ruffled Black Bean's head, giving one of her perky cat ears a little squeeze, before turning his gaze toward the bathroom where the sound of running water continued.
As cute as Black Bean was, her presence also meant he and Ning Chu had to sneak around now if they wanted to be intimate.
Come to think of it… last night she was literally sitting on the nightstand watching them make out.
Wen Yang's face turned bright red for once.
He wasn't even sure if Black Bean could understand adult behavior yet...
. . . . . .
"Time for bed, time for bed~"
Ning Chu stretched as she walked out of the bathroom.
She was wearing a short nightdress, her heart-shaped tail swaying under the hem.
She glanced at Wen Yang and caught him staring blankly at her, eyes glued to her. That look filled her with a strange mix of satisfaction and bashfulness.
The dress was short, thin, and very clingy. While it was comfy and didn't interfere with tail movement, it was… let's just say pretty revealing.
Especially her chest—without a bra on, those two little points stood out way too clearly.
All her sleepwear had been picked out by her mom. Besides one long conservative nightgown, the rest could only be described as... well, borderline succubus wear.
She darted under the covers and quickly pulled the blanket up to hide her figure.
Black Bean, now full and satisfied, happily jumped onto the bed too, ready to sleep.
"Go brush your teeth before bed."
"Yes!"
Black Bean cheerfully sprang up again, hopped off the bed, and dashed into the bathroom.
"I'll go shower too, then sleep."
Wen Yang turned off the lights and adjusted his position to lie on the edge of the bed.
Soon after, Black Bean and Wen Yang were both back in bed.
It was a queen-sized bed, but it still felt a bit cramped.
Black Bean's tiny frame somehow managed to take up the most space, curling up right in the middle—splitting Ning Chu and Wen Yang to opposite ends like a living wall.
This time of night was usually reserved for cuddling and sweet whispers, but now?
They were separated by one fluffy, purring cat girl.
Like a whole galaxy apart.
"Looks like I can only sleep…"
Wen Yang sighed wistfully.
Ning Chu, now deprived of her human pillow, looked equally sulky.
So this… is what life with a kid is like?
