Chapter 251 - Volume 1 Chapter 251: Meeting the Parents

Volume 1 Chapter 251: Meeting the Parents

Just earlier, she'd been wondering whether to let Wen Yang casually meet her mom when she arrived.

But now her mother had air-dropped in like an ambush, leaving her with absolutely no time to prepare.

Ning Chu stared at the woman standing by the roadside in a flowing long dress. She quickly composed herself, left Wen Yang behind, and hurried over.

Putting on a well-behaved smile, she wrapped her arm around her mother's.

"Mom~ Why are you here already?"

"I couldn't help it, seeing how anxious you were," her mom replied with a gentle smile, though her gaze wasn't focused on her daughter. Instead, she was looking straight at the young man her daughter had been so intimately clinging to just moments ago.

"Is that your boyfriend?"

"Uh… yeah."

Ning Chu figured there wasn't any point in hiding it now.

And honestly, there wasn't really any need to hide it. The only issue was… Wen Yang looked way too nervous.

She waved him over, introducing him while clinging to her mom's arm. "His name is Wen Yang, he's in the same class as me."

"Oh~ he's quite handsome."

Her mother's tone was kind, but her eyes were carefully scrutinizing Wen Yang.

He was tall—probably close to 1.9 meters. His outfit was simple but tidy, his frame was strong and upright, and his face practically screamed nervous and awkward.

Aside from being a bit too handsome—possibly the type to get stolen away by some other girl—there didn't seem to be anything majorly wrong with him.

It's normal for girls to like good-looking guys, after all.

She gave Wen Yang a polite nod, which helped ease his nerves a bit.

"H-Hello, Auntie…" Wen Yang stepped forward, so nervous he could barely talk.

This really was too sudden. He hadn't prepared anything at all.

Thankfully, he'd skipped playing basketball after PE and had stayed with Ning Chu. Otherwise, he'd be standing here drenched in sweat and stink—definitely not a good look for a future mother-in-law.

Her mother gave him a small nod in return and turned to Ning Chu.

"Why are you out of class so early? I was planning to wander around your campus and call you around five or six."

"My class for today is just a single PE."

"I see."

Ning Chu gave Wen Yang a subtle signal—play it cool, be sweet.

"Mom~ Let's ride in your car back to the apartment! Black Bean's waiting at home."

"Honestly, the name you picked…"

"I'm changing it when I register her anyway."

Her mother shook her head helplessly. "I finally finished raising your brother and you, took a couple years off, and now you throw me a brand-new headache."

Ning Chu gave her an awkward, embarrassed smile.

"Just don't come back in a few years saying you're giving me a grandkid."

"..."

Ning Chu knew her mom was joking, not blaming her, but her face still turned faintly pink. She mumbled softly,

"No worries. I don't want to have kids."

"You can't say that! Who doesn't want kids?"

Her mom gave her a side-eye and walked over to a white sedan parked by the curb.

"Whose car is this? Rented?"

"Uncle's. I visited Grandpa earlier, and I just borrowed it."

"Oh~"

Then her mother turned to Wen Yang.

"Do you know how to drive?"

Wen Yang awkwardly shook his head.

"When you have time, go get a license. Even if you don't have a car, it's good to have one in case you ever need it."

Her tone was a gentle reminder, but Ning Chu could still feel a subtle hint of coolness in her voice.

She couldn't figure out what it was about Wen Yang that her mom didn't like.

Looks? With a little styling, Wen Yang could pass for a celebrity.

Height and build? Maybe not quite athlete-tier, but definitely strong and sturdy.

Personality and background? They'd barely even talked yet—just a few polite sentences.

Her mom slid into the driver's seat, but before she could shut the door, Ning Chu leaned in close to whisper by her ear.

"Mom, do you not like Wen Yang?"

"He's fine."

Okay, her mom doesn't like him.

Her mom lowered her voice and whispered back,

"Guys who are too handsome attract too much attention. And he's too tall."

Okay, the attention thing… fair. But that was kind of her fault, not his...

As for the height—wasn't that a good thing?

Well, maybe the height difference did make some things a little inconvenient.

Like kissing… Standing on tiptoe whenever they want to kiss would be a hassle.

When taking photos, it's easy to not even appear in the same frame.

With that thought in mind, Ning Chu settled into the front passenger seat, then turned around to look at Wen Yang sitting stiffly in the back, face tense like he was bracing for an interview.

It was the first time she'd ever seen Wen Yang this nervous.

She couldn't help but snicker to herself and then turned to her mom.

"Just follow this road. I'll tell you where to stop in a bit."

"Is it far?"

"About ten minutes by car."

During the drive, her mom kept glancing at Ning Chu, and occasionally checked the rearview mirror to look at Wen Yang.

It was pretty obvious—her daughter was taking this relationship very seriously. She probably had already imagined when they'd get married and what the kid's name would be.

"How long have you two been together?"

"A few weeks, I think?"

Her mom froze for a second. "That fast? Did you always like boys?"

"..."

Sure enough, her mother misunderstood!

Even though Ning Chu's transition had been really fast, her orientation had always been perfectly normal back when she was still a guy!

With face flushed bright red, she denied it firmly:

"My orientation has always been normal!"

"Oh~"

Normal enough to fall for a guy right after turning into a girl, huh?

Her mother nodded knowingly, then continued,

"Little Yang, how old are you now?"

Wen Yang straightened up immediately and replied seriously,

"Eighteen."

"Where's your family from?"

"What do your parents do for a living?"

"Oh~ I see…"

It was practically a census interrogation aimed at Wen Yang, but somehow even Ning Chu started getting nervous, she's afraid her mom would find Wen Yang's family situation unacceptable.

She kept a tense, tight-lipped expression, eyes flickering to her mother's face in panic.

And sure enough, she saw that look of disapproval.

Forget dowries, houses, or cars—Wen Yang's family was struggling just to put food on the table…

Ning Chu quickly cut in and changed the topic:

"Mom, Black Bean really likes meat. Fish and shrimp too."

"She is usually very well-behaved and doesn't make a fuss..."

Her mom sighed softly.

"Look at you, already siding with outsiders~"

"..."

Thankfully, the drive wasn't long. Ning Chu recognized the familiar bus stop ahead.

"Mom, pull over by that bus stop. My rental's in the village behind it."

"Okay."

She parked in a roadside spot, and the three of them got out. Her mom turned to Wen Yang and said,

"You go ahead upstairs. Ning Chu and I will grab some food for Black Bean."

"Alright, Auntie."

Wen Yang's heart tensed again, but he nodded politely and left.

Only after he was far enough did her mother pull Ning Chu aside, a trace of worry apparent in her voice.

"You need to be careful."

"Huh?"

"He was just like that back then too. Poor boy, good-looking, and a couple years later, he ran off with another woman."

"..."

That's when Ning Chu realized—that's how her dad had left.

It can only be said that men are indeed creatures who like new things and dislike old things...

But to just run off? That seemed a bit strange.

Her mom, even in her forties, was incredibly well-maintained. Her figure and appearance easily passed for someone in her early thirties—the epitome of an elegant, alluring MILF.

Ning Chu looked at her mother, puzzled, until she saw a faint blush creep onto her mom's face as she turned away.

"…Well, when he left, his health wasn't so great…"

Ah, the reason why dad ran away is because you drained him dry till he couldn't take it anymore huh?
