From the city's deepest foundations, a primal roar echoed through the streets, shattering glass and causing lights to flicker out. The Tree's golden roots began to blacken, transforming into living filaments that slithered like snakes beneath the asphalt.
Akihiko, Kaede, and Sael stepped back, watching as the floor opened into cracks that looked like mouths devouring reality itself.
The air smelled of ozone, metal, and death.
Kaede stared in horror.
"This... isn't Tree energy. It's something older." Sael analyzed the energy logs. "It's impossible... the pattern doesn't match anything known. It's not the void, nor is it life force. It's... something in between."
Akihiko stared at the ground, his eyes glowing with a black and gold light.
"No… it's the origin. What existed before the Tree. What the void destroyed… and that should never awaken."
One of the roots burst forth violently, forming a humanoid figure made of liquid matter and metallic fragments.
Its voice was a distorted echo.
— "The cycle repeats itself. Eden is reborn. The false guardians will be purged."
II. Varren, the Architect
At the top of the tower, Varren watched the chaos with fascination.
His robe billowed in the wind, and his eyes reflected the black lights of the abyss.
"Beautiful..." he whispered. "The original Tree, the one that existed before Eden. Asleep beneath our roots all this time."
The surviving councilors stared at him in terror.
"You have condemned the city!" one of them shouted. "That's not power, that's a monster!"
Varren turned slowly, his face serene.
"We were always the monsters. It's just that the world insisted on calling it civilization."
With a gesture, he activated a new control panel.
The monitors displayed a sequence of ancient symbols. "The founders' records spoke of 'The Seed of the Abyss.' A buried power that maintained the balance between the Tree and the Void." "And you think you can control it?" one of the advisors asked.
Varren smiled.
"I don't need to control him. I just need him to awaken enough to erase this world... and give birth to the next."
III. Under the Tower
Meanwhile, Akihiko watched as the abyssal roots devoured the lower floors of the building.
Kaede dodged a tentacle emerging from the ground and slashed it cleanly, but the wound regenerated instantly.
"Cutting them off is pointless," Sael said desperately. "They're feeding on emptiness... on you, Akihiko!"
He knew it. He felt the connection.
The power of the roots resonated with his, as if they shared a single heart. — They cannot exist without me… and now they are remembering it.
Kaede looked at him with concern.
"What are you saying?" "That part of my energy... was the spark that awakened them. When I destroyed the north, the emptiness resonated in the foundations."
The ground shook again.
A gigantic root burst through the ceiling, spiraling upwards to the upper room. Varren watched it with a triumphant smile.
— Awaken… Primordial Seed… show your judgment.
IV. The Primordial Seed
A black glow enveloped the entire tower.
From the heart of the abyss emerged a colossal form: a tree of shadows, with branches that moved like tentacles and a luminous core at its center, where ancient symbols of Eden floated.
His voice was a soundless roar, a vibration that made your ears bleed.
"Eden betrayed darkness. Darkness betrayed life. The cycle… must be broken."
Akihiko fell to his knees, feeling the weight of the echo in his mind.
Kaede held him, trembling. "Akihiko! Hang on!"
He closed his eyes, and within his mind he saw fragments of the past: the original Tree, before Edenfall existed, before even the void.
A lost civilization, consumed by its own attempt to achieve purity. And at the center, a man identical to Varren, watching the Tree's birth with an ancient smile.
Akihiko opened his eyes, understanding.
"Varren... he doesn't just want to create a new order. He wants to repeat Genesis. To become the first god of the new world."
V. The Shadow Oath
The roots began to spread throughout the city.
The streets cracked, the buildings sank, and the sky turned red. Edenfall was sinking into its own abyss.
Sael shouted through the chaos.
"If we don't stop that energy, the Tree and the Void will merge completely! The planet won't withstand it!"
Akihiko stood up slowly, enveloped in a dark aura.
"Then we won't let it go that far." Kaede looked at him. "What are you going to do?" "What I swore to do from the beginning... protect this place, even if I have to become the very thing I fear."
Akihiko extended his hand.
The void responded, merging with the golden energy of the Tree. His body began to glow with both colors.
Kaede took a step back, tears welling in her eyes.
"No… Akihiko… that could destroy you." He looked at her, his calm demeanor piercing her soul. "If I get lost, don't look for me. Just remember… I did it so you could keep going."
