I stopped walking towards Declan once I heard Avira's tired and sleepy voice, and rushed to her side instead. Declan, for reasons known to him alone, remained rooted on the spot where he was.
"Avira," I called softly when I got to her side. My voice carried every emotion I felt. Relief, excitement and affection.
Her hand went to her neck, and when she touched the pack's Lunar Lock, a surprised look appeared on her face.
"Gamma had to put the pack's Lunar Lock to restrict the powers of Moonfire Lunar Lock." I explained, and gently held the hand which held the Locks around the neck until she withdrew her hand.
The door made a gentle thud just then, announcing Declan's departure. Avira shot me a surprised look, as if asking what the thud was about. She didn't see Declan in the room the whole time.
"It's Declan," I said simply. She grimaced a little but said nothing.
