My lips quivered uncontrollably as recognition hit me, and my heartbeat accelerated, following the recognition. My eyes travelled on their own to the others with my mom who now were staring at me with eyes that shone brightly in surprise.
"Dad?" I called, advancing towards them. But Gustavus' words came back to me at that moment, and I stopped walking.
Instead, I let my eyes focus on the last person in the company, and I felt my heart would burst open in…excitement?
"Antonio?" I called, and advanced towards him. But when I got to a few feet away from him, I paused, skeptical.
They all had blamed me for the fire even though I was but a child, and now that I was all grown up– after I was accused and abandoned to scale through life alone, I wasn't sure how to react to their actions.
But Gustavus had also said that they were dead, both my mom and dad, and he had no idea where the rest of our siblings were.
