The sound of silence was deafening, broken only by the faint hum of the city far beyond the apartment walls. Ethan slowly opened his eyes. For a moment, confusion clouded his vision—until the familiar white ceiling of his old room brought clarity. The smooth walls, the soft gray curtains partially drawn, the quiet ticking of the clock on his nightstand… this was his apartment.

He sat up slowly, breathing in the familiar scent of fresh linen and faint cologne that clung to the corners of the room. It was still night, and his room was dim, bathed in the soft blue glow from the moonlight seeping through the window. The portal that brought him here had long disappeared. Time stood still in the other world now.

Everything here was just as he had left it. The faint hum of his small refrigerator in the kitchen. The stillness of the place that had once been his refuge, his prison, and now, his anchor.

He turned his head and noticed his phone on the nightstand, right where he always left it—screen faintly glowing. Reaching out, he picked it up.

10:00 PM.

Two unread messages.

The first was from Alice. Her message was simple, soft, and carried her signature warmth:

"Good night, Ethan. Sweet dreams. I'll see you soon ❤️."

He couldn't help but smile. A soft warmth bloomed in his chest at the thought of her. Alice, with her gentle eyes and caring nature, had always been his comfort in this world.

The second message was from Samantha, the nurse he had grown close to during his stays at the hospital after his accident months ago. Her caring demeanor and stubborn insistence on rest and recovery had earned her a special place in Ethan's heart.

"Night, dummy. Don't stay up too late again. I'll check in tomorrow. 💤"

He chuckled, thumb tapping softly as he replied to both.

"Good night, Alice. I missed you. Can't wait to see you again."

"Good night, Sam. I'm home safe. Talk soon."

As the messages sent, he placed the phone gently back on the nightstand. His smile lingered, but there was a hint of bittersweetness in his eyes.

Just hours ago, he had kissed Elsa and Anna under the stars, promising them love without saying a word about his departure. Just hours ago, he had held their hands, feeling the tremble in their fingers and the heartbeat behind their smiles. And now, he was here… in a world that felt like a memory.

He sighed softly and stood, walking toward the small window. The city lights sparkled beyond like scattered constellations. It was so different from the snow-covered forests and mystical glow of the enchanted forest. The air was warmer here, more mechanical.

But there was comfort too. Familiarity.

He traced his fingers across the windowpane, exhaling a soft breath. "Back where it all started," he murmured to himself.

The system had told him: time stops in the worlds he leaves. Elsa and Anna… would be exactly where he left them. The next time he returned, it would be as if not a second had passed.

Still, his heart ached.

He missed them already.

But this was the blessing he had been given. A traveler now. A soul capable of walking across realms, of returning and reconnecting. That power came with a cost—moments like these where his heart felt stretched across time.

Ethan returned to the bed, peeling back the covers and easing beneath them. The softness of the sheets and the quiet of the room was almost too much. He lay on his back for a while, staring at the ceiling.

He thought of Anna, how she had laughed as he spun her in the gardens. Her eyes shining as she whispered her love. He remembered Elsa's quiet strength and the way her kiss had lingered longer than a queen's should.

He thought of Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven. Of the nights spent around campfires, and the moments filled with stories and warmth.

He missed all of it.

But he would return. He had to.

"Just for now," he whispered to himself, turning onto his side, "Rest."

As he closed his eyes, his thoughts wandered to Alice. Her soft hair. The way she'd always waited for him to come back, no matter how long he disappeared for. And Samantha, whose sarcastic words were always followed by kindness.

His worlds were vast now. His heart stretched between them. But it was okay. He would make it work. Somehow.

Sleep came slowly, like waves washing over sand, and soon Ethan was still.

The clock ticked on.

10:15 PM.

Outside, the city buzzed on without him, unaware that a traveler had returned. That a young man who had lived among queens and spirits now lay sleeping under an old ceiling—his soul gently suspended between three worlds, many lovers, and infinite futures.
