Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Pincer Tactics

The Exarch Prime knelt in the ash, a hand pressed to the jagged, oozing fissure Kai had just carved into its black-diamond neck. The unkillable nightmare of Sector 7 was bleeding.

For a Tier 2 (Peak) biological weapon, pain was not supposed to be a factor. The Exarch-Kin were bred for absolute, emotionless conquest. But as the Prime looked at the glowing blue-black fluid staining its digits, a violent shudder racked its towering frame.

It slowly stood up, its featureless obsidian visor locking onto the two human teenagers standing in the ruined street.

"It's recalibrating," Kai said, his metallic voice low and perfectly even. He held the Sovereign's Edge at his side, the five-colored aura of his Rank 3 Five Elements foundation flowing seamlessly down the dark meteor steel.

"Let it," Prince Zhao Long grinned, his violet eyes burning with a terrifying, subterranean light. The Prince slammed his Tier-2 Abyssal-Core Gauntlets together. The impact sent a rippling shockwave of gravity through the street, the Rank 10 Earthly Fiend magma-veins under his skin pulsing in a steady, controlled rhythm. "It's still heavier than us. But it only has two eyes. We have four."

[Target: Exarch Prime]

[Status: Minor Structural Damage.]

[Assessment: Target's Qi is violently condensing. Anticipating hyper-lethal counterattack.]

The Prime didn't screech. It simply raised its right arm, the three-foot radioactive green plasma blade flaring to a blinding intensity. Its secondary, smaller arms tucked tightly against its ribs, glowing with condensed kinetic energy.

Then, it vanished.

"Flank!" Kai roared.

They didn't try to match the alien's Peak-stage speed head-on. Instead, they split perfectly.

Zhao Long stepped heavy and hard to the left, stomping his boot into the bedrock. "Earthly Fiend: Tectonic Snare!"

A massive, invisible gravitational net erupted from the Prince's position. It didn't stop the Prime, but the localized gravity well acted like spiritual thick mud. The alien commander, attempting to blitz Kai, suddenly found its right leg weighing ten times more than its left. Its flawless, biomechanical sprint stuttered for a fraction of a millisecond.

That was the pincer.

Kai was already in the air.

Using the momentary lag in the alien's momentum, Kai utilized his [Agility: 35] and his new Tier 2 (Low) core to blur into the Prime's blind spot. He didn't swing for the neck; the alien was protecting it now. He aimed for the exposed joint of the secondary arm tucked against its ribs.

"Primordial Cycle: Metal-Water Shear!"

The Sovereign's Edge shrieked, the super-cooled, hyper-dense blade biting deeply into the alien's side. Sparks showered the street as Kai sawed through the outer diamond plating, drawing another geyser of blue blood.

The Prime violently twisted, bringing its plasma blade around in a lethal, sweeping backhand designed to cut Kai in half.

But Zhao Long was already there.

"Look at me, bug!" the Prince roared, stepping directly into the path of the plasma blade.

Zhao Long crossed his spiked, black star-iron gauntlets, catching the descending plasma blade perfectly between the thick spikes. The heat was astronomical. The Tier-2 metal of the Prince's gauntlets instantly began to glow a dangerous, cherry-red, his Earthly Fiend Qi violently resisting the radioactive burn.

The Prince grunted, the muscles in his arms bulging as he was pushed backward through the asphalt, but he didn't let go. He physically locked the Prime's primary weapon in place.

"Take the arm, Hart!" Zhao Long screamed, his magma-veins burning at maximum capacity.

Kai didn't hesitate. With the alien's right arm pinned by the Prince, the entire right side of its torso was exposed.

Kai planted his heavy boots, twisting his hips to generate maximum torque. He channeled the raging Five-Element vortex from his dantian directly into his arms, pushing his Stage 2 Titan-Pulse musculature to its absolute tearing point.

He swung the O-Katana in a flawless, devastating upward diagonal cleave.

SCREEEEECH-SNAP!

The high-frequency meteor steel met the black-diamond shoulder joint. Bolstered by Kai's massive [Strength: 40] and the pure, crystallized density of his Tier 2 core, the blade didn't just cut—it shattered the joint entirely.

The blade sheared cleanly through the dense biomechanical muscle, bone, and scale.

With a sickening crunch, the Exarch Prime's entire right arm—still ignited with the glowing green plasma blade—was severed completely from its torso. It tumbled through the air, hitting the ash-covered street with a heavy, lifeless thud

For a moment, the battlefield went dead silent.

Zhao Long stumbled backward, shaking his superheated gauntlets, staring at the severed arm on the ground. Kai landed in a crouch, his chest heaving, his molten-gold eyes locked on the towering alien.

They had just dismembered a Tier 2 (Peak) commander.

The Exarch Prime stared at its own stump. Thick, glowing blue fluid pumped rhythmically onto the street. Its biological programming could not process the outcome. Its flawless, calculated martial supremacy had been entirely dismantled by the perfect, symbiotic rhythm of the anvil and the hammer.

Then, the alien's featureless black visor cracked right down the middle.

A horrific, deafening roar tore from the Prime's hidden, four-way jaw. It wasn't the grinding, mechanical screech of a calculated killing machine. It was the raw, unadulterated scream of a wounded, humiliated beast.

[CRITICAL SYSTEM WARNING]

[Target: Exarch Prime]

[Status: Lethal Biological Overload Detected.]

[Assessment: Target has disengaged all internal safety limiters. Target is flooding its vascular system with highly radioactive Qi to compensate for structural loss.]

The black-diamond carapace of the alien began to violently shift. Thick, glowing green veins bulged to the surface of its armor, pulsating with toxic, radioactive light. The stump of its severed arm violently cauterized itself with green fire.

The Prime's aura, which had previously been a heavy, suffocating blanket of cold logic, exploded into a chaotic, raging inferno of raw, undisciplined power.

"It's burning its own lifeforce," Kai said, his grip tightening on his sword. "It just went rabid."

"Good," Zhao Long spat a glob of blood, slamming his fists together again. "I prefer rabid."

The enraged Exarch Prime lunged.

It was significantly faster. The sheer volume of radioactive Qi pumping through its legs propelled it across the street like a teleporting shadow. It closed the distance to Zhao Long in a microsecond, raising its remaining primary left arm. The black-diamond scythe at the end of its wrist elongated, glowing with volatile green energy, and came crashing down.

Zhao Long anchored himself, throwing a tectonic uppercut to meet the blow.

KRAK-OOOM!

The impact was catastrophic. The physical strength of the Prime had nearly doubled in its enraged state. Zhao Long's Earthly Fiend gravity was overwhelmed. The Prince was driven straight to his knees, the asphalt spider-webbing beneath him. His left gauntlet cracked under the pressure, and a sickening pop echoed as two of his ribs fractured.

"Long!" Kai blurred forward, swinging the Sovereign's Edge to decapitate the beast while its arm was locked against the Prince.

But the Prime wasn't fighting with martial logic anymore. Instead of parrying, it blindly backhanded its secondary, smaller arm directly into Kai's chest.

Kai took the blow flush. He was thrown through the air, skipping violently across the pavement before digging his blade into the ground to arrest his momentum.

The alien shrieked, raising its scythe to finish the kneeling Prince.

Kai coughed, his vision swimming, but the Transmigrator System was already processing the data.

[Combat Analysis Complete.]

[Notice: Target's speed and power have increased by 40%.]

[Vulnerability Detected: Target's martial form has completely degraded. Attack trajectories have widened by 35%. Complete loss of defensive efficiency.]

Kai's molten-gold eyes narrowed.

The Prime was a force of nature now, but it had abandoned the very thing that made it terrifying: its flawless efficiency. When it had its plasma blade, every strike had been a millimeter-perfect execution. Now, blinded by rage and pumping toxic Qi through its system, it was swinging like a wild brawler. It was over-committing.

"Long! Look at its shoulders!" Kai yelled, sprinting back into the fray. "It's telegraphing! It lost its form!"

Zhao Long, bleeding heavily from his mouth, looked up just as the Prime brought its massive scythe down for the kill.

The Prince didn't try to block the overwhelming force. He saw the massive, sloppy wind-up Kai was talking about. Zhao Long dropped his entire center of gravity, rolling underneath the wide, sweeping execution strike.

The alien's scythe buried itself four feet deep into the solid bedrock of the street, missing the Prince entirely.

Because it had swung with absolute, enraged maximum power, its scythe became temporarily wedged in the stone. Its entire left flank was thrown wide open, its balance completely ruined by its own furious momentum.

"Now!" Zhao Long roared from the ground. The Prince drove his remaining unbroken gauntlet directly into the side of the alien's knee joint, funneling all his tectonic gravity into a localized epicenter.

CRACK! The Prime's knee buckled backward under the heavy impact, forcing the massive beast to violently lurch downward.

Kai was already there.

He didn't swing widely. He used the cold, calculating discipline of his Forgemaster roots. He stepped cleanly into the massive opening created by the alien's sloppy over-extension.

"Primordial Cycle: Maximum Convergence!"

Kai funneled every last drop of his Tier 2 (Low) Five-Element Qi into the blade. Green, red, brown, silver, and blue light violently condensed into a single, blinding point at the tip of the O-Katana.

With the alien's carapace cracked, its posture ruined, and its arm stuck in the earth, Kai thrust the Sovereign's Edge directly upward.

He bypassed the thick chest plating entirely, driving the vibrating, high-frequency meteor steel straight up under the Prime's jawbone. The blade punched through the softer connective tissue of its neck, sinking deep into the alien's brainpan.

The Exarch Prime froze.

The glowing, radioactive green veins pulsating across its body violently flickered.

Kai didn't stop. With a roar of pure, human defiance, he twisted his wrists and violently ripped the blade sideways, tearing the entire side of the alien's head open in a shower of thick, glowing blue fluid and shattered black crystal.

The massive, towering commander of the Exarch-Kin stood rigidly for a fraction of a second, the light dying in its cracked obsidian visor.

Then, it collapsed backward, hitting the ash-covered street with a hollow, echoing thud.

The localized gravity well completely evaporated. The oppressive, radioactive heat faded into the cold wind of Sector 7.

Kai stood over the twitching corpse, his chest heaving, the Sovereign's Edge dripping with alien gore. Beside him, Prince Zhao Long remained sitting on the shattered asphalt, clutching his broken ribs, letting out a weak, bloody, triumphant laugh.

The apex had been calibrated, and the Vanguard had won.
