Chapter 344 - Chapter 344: The Tech Wizard

"On the first day of the New Year, someone is already committing a crime? I know the saying 'New Year, New Beginnings,' but please don't start with new crimes, okay?"

On the first day of the New Year in Manhattan, the Citibank vault was robbed by a brand-new super-criminal named Bentley Wittman, who called himself the Tech Wizard. He didn't have any special superpowers. He mainly used a telepathic helmet to control several flying discs that could generate gravity fields.

Naturally, this meant he could fly too.

"Don't stop me, Spider-Man! I control gravity!"

The young scientist, who looked to be at most twenty-four or five, roared, "If you come any closer, I'll crush you with tens of times the gravity."

"If you called yourself Graviton instead of the Tech Wizard, maybe I'd consider it for two seconds."

Peter chased the villain, swinging on a web, while simultaneously shooting a web line to stick to the flying disc beneath the villain's feet. However, the disc suddenly changed direction and emitted a powerful gravitational pull that sucked Peter towards it. Peter didn't panic. The moment he got close, the Symbiote shot out a tentacle, smashing the device. Peter immediately sped up to pursue.

"So, you're a scientist. Why didn't you go to Stark Industries or the Baxter Building for research funding? I mean, you've already created a finished product that you can use for crime, so why are you robbing money? Wouldn't it be better to just register a patent and find investors?"

"Osborn… stole… my patent!"

A massive repulsive force suddenly flung Spider-Man away. Peter shot webs backward, sticking to buildings on both sides. Using the elasticity of the webs and the repulsive force from the anti-gravity devices, he stretched the webs to their limit, then slingshot himself forward, instantly arriving next to the Tech Wizard and extending his web-wings to fly.

"Okay, it's Osborn again. Well, how about we talk about something else? For instance, I've been pondering a question recently. If a person enters a space where the flow of time is different from the outside world, how exactly should their age be calculated? I'm not talking about the biological problem, but the social one. Do you think the government system would allow them to become an adult early so they could buy a drink at a convenience store?"

"You shut up!"

"Fine, fine, shut up, shut up. I'm practically becoming Shut-Up-Man."

Peter pouted. He hadn't intended to think about this problem, but Illyana had aged from a sensible 12-year-old girl to a volatile 15-year-old in one day in Limbo, which made him think about the issue.

Of course, he wasn't just thinking about such trivialities. Peter was also maintaining vigilance regarding what might happen in the future. As far as Peter knew, if the timeline still overlapped with the MCU's, AIM might choose to assassinate the current President Ellis, but he highly doubted if that would really happen.

After all, the entire timeline was already a total mess; the Iron Man 3 story might not happen again.

Tony was actually already investigating A.I.M., as A.I.M. was a pure villain organization in most universes. However, given that A.I.M. was currently a contractor for the Pentagon and the hidden sponsor and logistics provider for the American Avengers team, the difficulty of the investigation was quite high.

Then there was Kang. He was trying to correct fate, turning people the Avengers had prevented from becoming villains back into villains.

Peter couldn't help but wonder what exactly Kang was trying to achieve.

Of course, what was more important now was capturing the Tech Wizard and recovering the tens of millions of dollars he had stolen.

"So, why don't you put the money back now, and then reconsider the patent issue? Maybe you'll find that Osborn Technologies actually cut you a break and returned your technology or something?"

While speaking, Peter used the Symbiote instead of webbing to stick to several gravity discs. The instantaneous stacking of gravity caused the Symbiote's tentacles to change shape, but the Symbiote was fundamentally a molecular organism, and as long as the gravity wasn't strong enough to deform its molecular structure, it couldn't be stopped.

Thus, Peter easily crushed half of the Tech Wizard's equipment.

But then, countless discs flew over, attempting to grab Peter. They flew at extremely high speed, appearing from all directions around Peter, applying massive gravity from different vectors in an attempt to tear Peter's body apart. Peter didn't bother to dodge; he just watched as the Tech Wizard prepared to flee.

"Haha, Spider-Man, just wait to be torn apart by gravity!"

"First of all, this gravity can't tear me apart. How many Gs is this? Five Gs? Second, I wasn't going to move because there was no need."

Peter smiled. "After all, you only have two discs left: one supporting yourself, and one holding your money."

The Tech Wizard froze, seemingly only now realizing what had happened. A web line stuck to the disc beneath his feet, pulling it away. The Tech Wizard immediately plummeted from the sky, then got stuck in a web and was pressed against the wall of a tall building.

Next, the disc holding the tens of millions of dollars began to fail, and the money fell from the sky. Peter quickly pulled himself out of the gravity field, leaped forward, and continuously shot webs, forming a giant cocoon around all the money before it could hit the ground.

"Hundreds of pounds of cash flying around like that—if we weren't careful, it could have crushed several people." Peter, squatting on the wall and holding the tens of millions of dollars, looked at Cindy, who had come to help, and was slightly surprised. "Thanks for coming, Cindy."

"S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn't had any training these past two days, so I saw you on the news and came over."

Peter wasn't entirely sure if she really saw it on the news, but he didn't dwell on it. He just called the NYPD, telling them to come and pick up the man and the money. The Tech Wizard, stuck to the wall, was still venting his frustration: "Spider-Man, if you hadn't distracted me with your nonsense, you never would have been able to..."

"That's called tactics, Scientist."

Peter shot a web over the Tech Wizard's mouth. Soon, an armored transport vehicle arrived to collect the money, but a police car showed up at the same time. Commissioner George Stacy stepped out of the car, looking at the two Spider-People.

"Thank you for your help, Spider-Man, and... the NYPD needs your assistance."

As Captain Stacy spoke, Peter jumped down from the building and retorted, "What happened? Is it serious?"

"It is serious. We encountered a strange case. The caller reported receiving supernatural equipment and then called the police, but when the officers arrived, there was no one at the scene, only traces left by an explosion."
