Chapter 345 - Chapter 345: The Explosion Site

"Hello, 911? I've come into possession of some, uh, supernatural items..."

At a roadside coffee shop, Captain George Stacy invited Spider-Man and Silk to have a cup of coffee. Cindy didn't order anything because her suit was essentially just a mask covering her face, making it impossible to protect her secret identity. If she were to eat something, taking off the mask would completely reveal her face.

However, conversely, her decision to wear a simple mask also hinted that she wasn't too concerned about fully concealing her identity. Peter decided not to dwell on that point for now. He was listening to the 911 call from a man named Arnold Donovan, trying to recall which villain this name corresponded to.

The conclusion was that either he wasn't a villain, or he was so obscure that Peter had never heard of him. After listening to the entire call, Peter asked his first question: "So, the officers arrived at his apartment..."

"It took less than half an hour, which is already very fast."

But during that time, someone had taken Donovan away and blown up the scene. Furthermore, none of the neighbors around the explosion noticed anything, and the explosion's force was highly contained, only damaging the living room.

"It didn't even shatter the windows?"

"It didn't even shatter the windows."

Peter frowned, finding it incredible. After thinking it over, he accepted the coffee offered by the waitress, lifted his mask slightly, took a sip, and considered the situation. He ultimately decided to go examine the crime scene first.

"That's exactly what I was thinking. Let's go."

Captain Stacy clearly had no intention of staying here either and opted to drive. Peter was slightly taken aback but decided not to refuse Captain Stacy's goodwill and got into the car with Cindy. Captain Stacy glanced at the two in the rearview mirror and tentatively asked, "So, are you two... partners, or something else?"

"Occasional partners," Cindy replied. "We're not on the same team. We just... have similar abilities."

Shouldn't people with similar abilities be placed on different teams? Captain Stacy mumbled to himself, seeming to understand what his daughter meant when she said there were many girls revolving around Peter.

He had originally thought she was just talking about high school girls, but apparently, it also extended to superheroes. However, work was more important now. Captain Stacy simply sighed and drove them to Donovan's apartment.

The scene was well-preserved, almost untouched. Or rather, ordinary officers were simply unwilling to approach such an outlandish crime scene, which was perfect for Peter to investigate. He immediately connected to J.A.R.V.I.S., then pressed the spider icon on his suit's chest. Instantly, a beam of light appeared from the icon, scanning the entire crime scene and beginning to analyze and reconstruct what happened before the explosion.

"Is this thing one hundred percent accurate?"

"Uh, no. I can only say that the content it reconstructs is one hundred percent accurate, but not everything is guaranteed to be reconstructed."

After shrugging, Peter asked Captain Stacy for the time the call was made, then watched the scene reconstructed by J.A.R.V.I.S. A man with an obscured face appeared in the footage, standing in front of the coffee table for a few minutes, then picking up something from the table, sitting on the sofa, and making a phone call.

Realizing that the item was very important, Captain Stacy asked Peter, "What was that?"

"I wish I knew what it was, but unfortunately, I don't." Peter frowned, but then tried his best to digitally reconstruct the item. After a moment, he determined it might be a sphere.

A sphere containing supernatural technology?

The group continued watching what happened. They saw Donovan finish his 911 call and then scroll through his phone out of boredom. Peter immediately sped up that section until Donovan stood up to open the door.

Undoubtedly, the person opening the door was the root of everything.

No concrete information could be obtained about the person at the door; even the scan reconstruction couldn't reveal much information, only a rough height estimate. However, they could see the person lift Donovan up, then violently slam him onto the sofa, causing the sofa to flip over.

"This is the person! This person is the mastermind! He knocked Donovan unconscious, he..."

The person walked into the living room, picked up the item Donovan originally intended to give to the police, then carried Donovan and prepared to leave. Before leaving, he tossed a sphere into the room. The sphere landed in the living room, and as the person closed the door, the entire living room was completely charred.

"You said no explosive residue was found at the scene, right, Captain Stacy?"

"Yes, Spider-Man. Why?"

"Because, according to the model data, there wasn't no residue."

Peter initially thought the person used the Extremis virus, as the explosion characteristic of the Extremis virus, as seen in the Iron Man 3 movie, was that no explosive material could be found, nor any bomb residue. However, the model showed that the bomb was not the person's body, but the small sphere.

More critically, the small sphere did leave remnants; they were just blown further away. Peter looked at Cindy, and the two began searching the room. Soon, piece after piece of plastic shrapnel—which looked nothing like bomb fragments and showed no burn marks—was found. Peter didn't piece them together by hand; he simply scanned them with his eyes, watching the system automatically complete the assembly.

He saw something incredible.

"Oh, no."

"What is it, Spider-Man?"

Realizing Peter's shift in emotion, Captain Stacy quickly asked. Peter took a deep breath: "It's a pumpkin."

"A pumpkin?"

"A pumpkin bomb made of new composite materials. Sorry, I need to make a call."

Peter rubbed his temples, then walked into an inner room of the apartment. Captain Stacy and Silk exchanged glances, somewhat puzzled by Peter's tension.

Peter, meanwhile, called Harry. Harry quickly picked up: "Hey, Peter, what's wrong?"

"Uh, has your dad gone out these past couple of days? Have you noticed anything amiss?"

"He goes out every day. But something amiss? Why?"

"No, nothing, it's just..."

Peter frowned, thinking of what Gwen had said about Osborn researching a device to treat schizophrenia.

So, who was using this pumpkin bomb?
