3Chapter 2
Ellisburg
Piggot stared at the black clad man, the screech of tearing metal and the clattering of chains echoed in the room as the man yanked his hands from where they were bound behind his back, slapping his palms to the dusty floor as he pressed his face into the pooled blood, leaving not a drop of it on the stone floor as his tongue passed through it.
The bio tinker's creations looked on in confusion for a moment more before deciding that their cobbled together instincts were wrong, and this was just another target, not something to fear.
The minotaur giraffe surged forward, lashing out at the man only for its fist to smack loudly into the man's hand, his arm almost contorted up over his back to catch the monsters hand, twice as big as his own, in his white gloved palm.
"GrahAkkkgrallarak!" The man snapped.
Piggot and the monsters stared at him.
After a bit of spitting and a few hard coughs and what sounded light low key yodeling, the man spoke again.
"Gah … hairball, anyway, can't a man have a drink in peace without being jumped by rejects from Labyrinth?"
The giraffe creature roared again yanking its hand back and trying to stomp the man.
"Guess not." the man stated catching the creature's hoof as it came down and yanking hard, the leg tearing off the creature in a bloody spray as the thing screamed and fell onto its back.
"Whoops, better be careful there Geoffrey, sports injuries like that will side line you for life." The man chuckled lifting the bleeding limb up to his maw squeezing it to push the blood from the leg into his mouth.
"Oh my gods it tastes just like a grape blow pop!" He cackled as he licked his lips flinging the drained leg aside."And a giraffe too, you know those are my favorite animals just after honey badgers I mean, I love those little psychotic things. But yeah Giraffes, I mean come on what blood sucker wouldn't love them? They're all neck."
Piggot's eyes widened as the man's mouth opened wide enough that it seemed to unhinge before he snapped it closed on the creatures long neck in a shower of blood. The creature flailed and struggled though it quickly seemed to weaken as it started to pale, the loud sounds of slurping keeping everything else in the room frozen in place.
After a few moments the man dropped the body to the floor, the thing looking like it had been drained completely of all fluids.
"Well that was refreshing. Lets see what do we have. Goblins? I used to know a guy who would get such a hard on to kill you lot. And hmm? Ahh. Well well, there's the tasty damsel in distress."
Piggot snarled snapping her arm up aiming the gun at his forehead. "I don't know what the hell you are, but I've got two bullets left, and both of them are already promised to myself and someone else, so don't make me waste them on your skinny ass."
The man blinked, red eyes regarding her before he started to laugh, a deep cackling that chilled Piggot.
"Oh you are a treat. Not quite a Hellsing, but I think you'll do as a master for now."
"What?" Piggot questioned.
"Hold that thought. "The man turned back to the chittering goblins. "HEY this is a private conversation can you have just a little respect?"
There was a series of squeals and cries as the goblins pushed into the door to harvest the pair for their father.
"Of course not, no respect at all." The man sighed. Then he moved.
Emily Piggot lowered her gun watching as the man tore through Nilbog's creations like tissue paper, blood and gore flying everywhere and more than a little of it being drawn into him or drank outright.
She watched him rip the head off one, chug the blood from its neck like a college frat boy then smash the rest against his forehead like a beer can.
In moments the only thing left alive was the man and Emily.
"What the fuck are you?" Piggot demanded.
"Oh me? I'm the fuck mothering vampire."
"That's a name?"Piggot questioned
"More a title, my name... is Alucard. "The man smiled." But you can call me Big Daddy V."
"No."
"Awwww."
[PRT check point several hours later.]
Thomas Calvert smiled to himself behind the mug of coffee he had been handed as he took a sip. A bit more bitter than he liked, but so far everything else was going to plan. He got out of the city, and with the information he had gone after, intact.
The medical tent he sat in front of was at the back of a line of tanks and APCs sitting on the main road into Ellisburg He could just see between all the vehicles to the road stretching to Ellisburg.
Helicopter cranes were flying all over the place setting up the massive wall like they had in Italy when the Simurgh first showed up.
There was still a massive chain length gate crossing the road here between outpost towers, but soon that would be replaced as well.
When he managed to make it here his debriefing had caused the PRT to speed up their efforts, and declare Nilbog a class S-Class threat. The whole city would be locked down and nothing would be allowed in or out.
Why such efforts were in place instead of simply nuking the city he didn't know, nor did he care, he got what he came here for.
A contact of his went silent after passing on just enough information to peak his interest. Calvert had joined a team that was going to go into Ellisburg, so he could get to the dead drop mentioned by his contact, a contact he expected by now was in several of the bio tinker's creations.
Things had not gone according to plan, but he had gotten the dead drop, and gotten rid of the last person who might have seen him gather the flash drive.
Thankfully the trooper hadn't been killed from the fall and had led the monsters away leaving him a few moments to find a lap top open the data pack, memorize what was there, and destroy all of it.
The flash drive had only contained two things. A contact number for some one who was selling super powers.
And a name.
Cauldron.
A group promising super powers for the right price.
The thin man watched another section of the wall be put into place as he took another sip of coffee nodding to one of the younger troopers who seemed in awe that the man had escaped the city from hell.
He could milk that sort of adoration. A normal escaping an S-class threat.
Hell he could probably get a spot on Oprah if he wanted.
But he had other plans, particularly if Cauldron could give thinker or master powers. Granted he would take most anything, but something other than those two would need him to redo some of his plans.
He should at least take a vacation first after the inevitable master/stranger protocols of course. No one would argue against him taking some time off, not after this, and in the down time he could give Cauldron a call.
For now he simply needed to be patient and 'recover'. He was the lone survivor of the Ellisburg team after all.
Any further thoughts were stopped by the sound of screaming from many throats at once echoing in the night.
He knew the sound, that was the sound that the monsters had found a target and were calling others to come join in the hunt, he had never heard it so loud though, it was like the whole city was being brought into a chase.
The screaming continued for far longer than he expected too, five minutes, now ten. Perhaps a civilian had been able to hide and had triggered. That made some sense.
The entire check point stared at the city in the distance as the screaming slowly died down and stopped.
Calvert leaned against the front of a Humvee and sighed, staring up into the night draining the rest of his coffee and setting the mug on the hood.
Something was odd. The city was never silent, hoots, giggling, and cries of the things were a constant background noise, like field crickets out west. Right now everything was silent save the low hum of the outpost's generators behind the med tent, and the sound of the choppers laying more of the wall in the distance.
"HALT! Identify yourself!" shouted one of the guards in the tower, several weapons, including some flame throwers swiveled into place, the road turning to daylight as several spotlights were cut on and turned towards a figure walking down the middle of the road.
Calvert narrowed his eyes as he looked down the road between all the vehicles, and the gate to the figure. It seemed female, silvery blond hair cropped short to her head, the remains of a PRT uniform covering her, though her armor and jacket were gone and a massive swathe of bloodied bandages was wrapped around her middle. She staggered forward only stopping at the command, a standard issue .45
handgun assigned to trooper's kits clutched in her right hand.
The figure paused, the woman pale in the lights, she inhaled deeply, wincing before calling back.
"First Lieutenant Emily Piggot of Bravo." the woman shouted.
"Piggot?" a Major called back as he moved closer to the gate from the temp HQ in the back of one of the APCs. "We have a verified claim you were KIA."
"Not yet." Piggot stated. "And not today."
Before anything else could be done another figure seemed to appear out of the shadows at the edges of the spotlights before he moved up next to the woman. A tall gaunt looking man dressed in all black with white gloves and long black hair that seemed to flow around him as a cape. Piggot glanced at him then looked back at the gate.
"Who's that Lieutenant?" The major frowned.
"His name's Alucard, sir." Piggot stated cutting off the man as he opened his mouth, a frown crossing his features. "I said let me handle this." Piggot muttered to the man who looked like he was pouting. "He's pretty much the only reason I'm here at the moment."
"You're going to have to wait there until we confirm this. The entire site's locked down now, we can't just let you over here let alone any closer." The Major added. "We're not sure the level of Nilbog's control or ability to replicate people, and you were confirmed dead. It's gonna take us some time to get a team over here to confirm."
"I know the protocol sir." Piggot waved her free hand. "I also know that protocol can be damned if there's no longer a threat. Alucard?"
There was general muttering as the tall man produced a large sack from some where. A sack that was currently wiggling and crying out.
Reaching into the bag Alucard drew out a struggling figure by the back of his collar. A potbellied slightly hunchbacked human male who was dressed in a patchwork costume with jarring patterns of stripes and checkers. Over his face was a cloth mask with a cloth crown on it with beads for eyes and a perpetual leer of a smile.
Alucard reached up with his free hand and pulled off the mask uncovering the balding man fully.
"NOOO GIVE ME BACK MY CROWN! UPSURS! ASSASINS!POLKA SUMMON THE GUARD! KILL THEM!" Jamie Rinke screamed and babbled.
"Shut up." Piggot demanded, pointing her gun at Nilbog's temple and pulling the trigger.
There was a loud report and much of the bio tinkers head simply vanished into chunks and red mist.
There was a moment of silence as Alucard smirked in approval, then dropped the body like a sack of potatoes in the middle of the road.
"You wasted a bullet." Alucard grinned.
"Now then. Threats neutralized sir, can I please get some medical attention before my other kidney falls out in the middle of the street?"Piggot demanded.
The gate slowly was opened as a squad of troops rushed forward surrounding the pair as they walked and hobbled towards the gate. The guards halted Alucard, gesturing for him to stay back by a tank. Piggot nodded to him and continued on towards the medical tent, waving off any nurses who tried to help her.
"Well nice to see you survived Lieutenant." Calvert offered as Piggot staggered towards the tent. She paused, turning to to look at the man as some of the nurses rushed a gurney over trying to get Piggot to lay on it.
"So you lived?"
"You did as well."
"Yeah... though... in the end there Calvert..." Piggot sighed. "I found myself conserving ammo as I was trained. But I still was reduced to just two rounds. And in that place, one of them was going to be for me when those things finally found me. And of course, I just wasted that one."
Calvert blinked, and looked back up the road towards the body surrounded by several Guards and officer who were looking it over.
"And what was the second bullet for?" Calvert asked as he looked back at Piggot and found himself staring down the barrel of a 1911.
There was a loud report that caused everyone to jump or pull back from Piggot and the collapsing corpse of Thomas Calvert.
Emily let out a sigh, and tossed the gun to one of the troopers who hadn't recovered from the surprise enough to raise his gun towards her yet
"I want that gun back." Piggot demanded as she laid out on the gurney with a wince.
The only sound for a few moments after was Alucard laughing.

3Chapter 3
The first few months after Ellisburg had been a blur of pain, surgery and questions.
Alucard of course answered nothing, and set out to be the most annoying shit he could be to any one and every one. He also flirted with pretty much anything with a pulse.
Piggot herself underwent quite a number of surgeries as well as a great deal of blood transfusion, the doctor working on her had no idea how she had managed to survive, let alone continue to move.
She was down one kidney, a section of her stomach, two feet of intestine, and she was never going to have kids, not like she cared about that last.
The recovery kept her in bed for nearly three months, and the only reason it was that short was because she kept pissing off the doctors.
What little data that was gathered on Alucard showed he was obviously sandbagging the tests, it also showed that precogs and thinkers couldn't get a proper reading on him. Couple this with the fact that the only one he would listen to, most of the time, was Piggot, and that had most of the researchers marking Piggot down as a cape herself.
Piggot had denied this vehemently, only for Alucard to start playing it up like she controlled him.
In the end, despite not even having a Corona Pollentia she was declared a Master 8, Brute 1 as no one was quite sure how she managed to still walk with her injuries.
Everyone also ignored the woman's protests on any of this. The PRT Head Director Costa Brown however had let Piggot know that if she continued to profess not being a cape, she could be charged with the death of Lieutenant Calvert, instead of having it swept under the rug as a result of a trigger event.
Emily accepted this, as well as a field promotion to Major. Once she was able to move around on her own she was put forth as the PRT's media hero for ending the threat of Nilbog.
She even got a spot on Oprah.
Aside from being an annoying shit, Alucard started looking over what he missed during his nap. Evidently the vampire had been asleep since the second world war.
Piggot's own investigation into his past with the Hellsing organization came up with a dead end. After the death of Arthur Hellsing, and the mysterious disappearance of his daughter Integra Hellsing, his brother Richard Hellsing took over the family.
The brother only took two years to run the family name into the ground and into crippling debt forcing a liquidation of all assets before an unpaid debt collector took Richard's life for failure to pay. What was left of the estate was sold off and some of it, including Alucard's body some how, wound up in the USA.
Alucard's research seemed to focus on Capes and Endbringers. The vampire finding the lot of them rather interesting, particularly the cape Hero. The vampire seeming actually upset he never got to meet the man. Other wise he had a particular interest in the one called The Simurgh, the third Endbringer to appear.
The third Endbringer first appeared in December of 1999, Christmas Day, over Vatican city, Italy.
This provoked panic in many as she was suspected to be another Endbringer.
However the Pope declared that she had spoken to him and was an angel of the Lord sent to punish the wicked and help fight back against the demons sent from hell to destroy mankind.
Despite warnings of many, the Simurgh's appearance coupled with the lack of violence from her made many believe the claim.
Millions flocked to The Vatican to bear witness to the angel that floated serenely above the city. Worship and tithes doubled in the month since the Simurgh's arrival, making the Catholic church enjoy a status and power it hadn't had in centuries. Just when it seemed like that perhaps this was an actual Seraph sent from god, the Simurgh's real plans began on February 14th 2000.
What followed was what could be considered the largest most brutal holy war to ever happen.
Everyone that had been at the Vatican, either to look at the angel, or worship it suddenly started attacking any one and everyone who was around them, with brutal savagery thousands were killed in the first hours, violent riots broke out across the world.
Even as the nations reeled from the onslaught and tried to regain control, the Vatican sent out Capes in numbers no one had even thought they had, destroying churches and peoples of any faith other than theirs across Italy, claiming territory and more followers through bloody battles that threatened to spread out from Italy into the rest of Europe.
The other nations of Europe acted far faster than any one had expected, and before the month of February was over, nukes were dropped on Italian soil. Two on Vatican city itself and Rome, and one on the largest group of 'Crusaders' that had claimed Milan. Countless other non nuclear payloads were dropped as well and what remained of Italy was sealed off from the rest of Europe with check points and mine fields.
By this point the Simurgh had taken up it's well known position in orbit, and many of the 'Crusaders' that had not been taken down in other countries, started a new worship of the Endbringers themselves.
With the death of an entire religion, and the biggest death toll from an Endbringer to date as well as the start of a cult to themselves. The Simurgh had earned a nickname.
The Hope Ender.
Alucard wanted to buy her a drink.
The rest of the year was spent on what could be considered the PRT publicity circuit. Piggot told the vetted story of Ellisburg to the press and countless other important people. There were also two Endbringer encounters, with Leviathan at Hyderabad, and Behemoth in Vanderhoof. The Simurgh attack in February was missed as Piggot was still in observation due to her injuries.
In both cases Piggot was forced to hang back in the HQ while Alucard showed what he could do.
In both cases the Endbringers were driven off faster than anticipated.
The only thing of note with those fights were there were far less bodies recovered than usual.
That and Alucard displayed annoyance that the Endbringers didn't have any real blood in them.
Still with the Endbringers driven off for the year and Piggot still being the Golden Goose for recruitment and practically the face of the PRT, as much as she loathed it, the talk show requests slowed nearing the start of the new year.
Piggot herself was ready to get back into some semblance of real work now that she was healed enough to be cleared by the doctors.
However while participating in a joint training exercise with the newly formed Canadian branch of the PRT, Piggot and Alucard were pulled from training and sent to a new location to try and resolve a situation that had arisen.
Brockton Bay.

3Chapter 4
February 16, 2002.
Brockton Bay
Emily Piggot shifted in the back of the PRT transport van, her gaze looking over the data pad she had been handed about the situation.
It was a cluster fuck, pure and simple.
The Brockton Bay Brigade, after a failure the following year, and the amount of bad press they had gotten because of the failure, attempted to arrest the supposed King of the criminal underworld in this city, again.
A Changer/ Shaker calling him self Marquis. The man was a murderer plain and simple despite his supposed code, though according to his dossier he had encountered the 9 and reportedly killed one of their number when they last wandered through the city while defending a group of women and children.
It was also suspected that he was the reason other gangs had not gained much of a foothold in the city. He was ruthless, deadly, and currently had five local capes, perhaps more than that, hostage in his home.
One of the BBB, Lady Photon, had gotten away and had called for back up.
The previous year the group had tried the same thing, violating the 'Unwritten Rules' to try and take Marquis by surprise, only to find the man was not even in the city at the time and all they managed to do was to destroy his home.
Several lawsuits from the 'home owner', Marquis' civilian identity, put the BBB on the defensive from the legal side of things.
Of course the judges sided with the 'victim' against the capes. There was still a lot of prejudiced in the world involving people with powers. Piggot didn't like Capes at all herself after all the bullshit she had been through in the previous year, but even her dislike of them didn't mean she liked seeing them get screwed over like that.
If it had stopped there, perhaps things would have been fine, but it seemed the BBB were determined to bring Marquis to justice and to hell with anything that got in their way.
It was almost commendable in a way, that sort of determination, but it seemed that the lawsuit was just a warning, as when they tried this time, he took them all down, hard. Only Lady Photon had escaped, leaving the other five held hostage by the villain.
The local PD and PRT had the house surrounded rather quickly, and the hostage negotiators had started in. Despite their screw up the BBB were fairly popular in Brockton Bay, and the Mayor wanted to ensure that his people did everything they could to save them, if nothing else for the 'I tried' votes next election. The PRT had agreed, as this would be a good attempt to get the independent team under PRT control if they survived.
The biggest issue here was that, the BBB had outed Marquis, the news was already tracking down the home owner and putting things together. No other hero was ever going to trust them on not breaking the 'Unwritten Rules' again and they might be targeted by a number of villainous Capes for just such a thing. Piggot wasn't sure where the 'Unwritten Rules 'had come from, and she viewed them as stupid, but unfortunate, necessity.
None of that however explained what was going on now though. The stand off was getting ready to go into it's second day and the only thing Marquis had asked for, was to speak with her.
Emily's eyes lifted from her weapon as she checked it over again. The 1911 had been returned to her and despite some complaints about a cape having a gun, no one forced the issue. Her gaze fell upon Alucard sitting calmly across from her with a large grin on his face as the transport rattled down the road.
"What are you so smug about?"
"I'm not smug."
"Bullshit."
"If you must know I'm quite thrilled not to have to be doing the training with Canadians. There's only so much I can take of those beer swilling hockey nuts, and do you have any idea how hard it would be to get maple syrup out of my hair?" Alucard waved a hand." And seriously what the hell is up with the accent those frost bitten hose heads have?"
"Could you stop casually insulting people?" Piggot sighed.
"Surreeee. If they prove to be worth my time to do so."Alucard chuckled.
Piggot sighed." Try not to antagonize Marquis until the hostages are released at least."
"Hmmmmm, Maybe."
The slow deceleration of the vehicle coupled with the flashing red and blue that could be seen cut the conversation short as the vehicle comes to a stop about a block from the house.
Emily holstered her gun, and stepped out as the door as it was opened, Alucard flowing out behind her.
She closed her eyes as the first flashes of cameras started, the press was of course, to get a look at the famous Cape called into a high profile hostage situation. Emily had a feeling the PRT was pushing so hard to make her out to be the next big thing to cover for the death of Hero. Of course she had fought that every step of the way
As such she was dressed in standard PRT Trooper Fatigues, the navy blue uniform was much more stylized and custom than a standard uniform and with far less armor than Piggot liked. It also had far more emphasis on her curves, right down to a padded chest to make her bust look bigger.
Luckily the PR department was smart enough to give her the uniform before giving her back her gun.
Her mask thankfully was functional, little more than a thicker pair of shaded goggles for eye protection designed to allow for peripheral vision as well as basic protection and hide her identity.
There was talk of seeing about adding a HUD later, though Piggot was wary of tinker tech items.
Her rank and all appropriate markings were on the uniform as they should be, though rather than her name, the cape name they had come up with for her was printed on the patch.
Slayer.
PR's reasoning was that the name Slayer was often used as a title for someone who killed monsters. Vampires, Dragons, and all sorts of other creatures that went bump in the night. A legendary character that emerged at just the right time to stop evil, much like she had done in Ellisburg.
Emily just thought the PR department had watched too much Buffy.
Alucard thought it amusing.
For Alucard himself, the PR department couldn't find anything that they liked that he did, and the gimp suit and bondage gear he suggested was rejected right out.
In the end they compromised on something that Piggot thought looked like a 50's Zoot suit with a long red coat and a ridiculous hat. He also chose a pair of matching round red sunglasses. He was given a pair of guns, though at Emily's insistence, only with less than lethal rounds for his standard load outs, something that disappointed Alucard a good bit.
Emily nodded to the officers around the house and was let through the cordon and handed a headset to connect to the officers present. She stopped on the sidewalk and looked up at the house.
It was an older home built higher in the hilly area around the bay, looking down the street one could see the bay itself and the wreckage of the ships destroyed, sunk or simply left to rot after the collapse of the shipping industry thanks to leviathan and the subsequent riots that followed.
The place was a modest two story home, not something one would expect of a super villain, though given what had happened to his other home, perhaps he simply hadn't found another place yet. The smashed in front door and windows, as well as the char marks likely decreased the property values however.
"Mmmm blood." Alucard offered.
Emily glanced back to the cordon and the officer in charge of the situation, he met her gaze and spoke into the phone he held. After a few moments he looked back to Emily and nodded.
With an exhale Emily and Alucard strode up the steps and into the front door.
Slayer paused in the entryway, her eyes looking over the place and the webbing of what looked to be bone that covered small room. There was a puddle of blood on the floor and a man in a yellow and white suit was pinned to the corner of the room by several shards of bone, a spiked cord of the material was pulled into his mouth, several of the spikes likely digging into his flesh, though he was still alive, his eyes watching her as she moved in.
Her eyes left Manpower as she took another step towards the doorway and the hall that led further in, the floor free of any bone spikes, though another figure was impaled on the ceiling as she walked in. Slayer paused looking up at the woman pinned there, her hands encased in bone held at her own throat as if to render her power useless. Still alive however.
Slayer moved away from Fleur and continued to follow the clear path towards what she assumed was the living room.
Alucard paused looking up at the woman and chuckled. "Bone bondage... kinky..."
Slayer glared back at him before she cautiously stepped into the living room.
Seated on an easy chair was a brown haired man without a shirt, the white material was in shredded chunks hanging off various protrusions of bone that were scattered around the room. Two large spikes of bone emerged from his back, spreading and covering a good portion of the room like a spiderweb. Thicker masses of the bone covered the windows and the back door out onto the porch preventing any sniper shots, though there was an even larger mass of bone around what looked to be a closet in the room.
Sitting across from him, unbound was a woman in a orange and white. Her outfit was soaked in blood and she was clutching her shoulder as she glared at Marquis.
On the floor between them were two men, both wrapped in spiked bone, with evidently quite a few of the spikes driven into them judging by the blood, and both had a thick length of spiked bone around their necks, the points short enough to do little more than pierce the skin, but likely to go much deeper with a thought from the man controlling them.
Brandish, Lightstar, and Flashbang. The former probably not bound due to her breaker power making her hard to contain with just bone.
"Ah Slayer... welcome to my home." Marquis offered.
"Love the design of the place, I'm assuming an early Adams Family or Munsters aesthetic?" Alucard offered.
"I would say Adams family." Marquis smirked. "I had a thing for Morticia when I was younger."
"Who didn't." Alucard purred.
"Why have you asked for me." Slayer demanded before Alucard got started.
"Please have a seat I would like to talk." Marquis stated.
"Release the hostages first." Slayer demanded.
"No, not yet." Marquis stated.
"Fine . Release one, show me that all you want is to talk." Slayer stated.
Marquis seemed to consider before he nodded. "Alright, never let it be said that I cannot be agreeable, Brandish, get out."
"Wait a minute, let them..." Brandish growled.
"Shut up." Slayer stated flatly, her eyes not leaving Marquis. "You don't get a say in this. You people started the trouble and I'm here to fix it, so stand up, shut your mouth, and leave."
Brandish looked at the group of them before rising.
"If you so much as..." Brandish snarled.
"I am quite sure I added the words SHUT UP, to the commands I gave you." Slayer snapped.
"Come on, off you pop." Alucard grinned making a shooing motion at the woman.
Brandish shot another glare at them before turning to head out, vines of bone forming behind her to make sure she left.
"Well then. Please have a seat, I would offer you tea, but this one blew up my kitchen when he came in." Marquis gestured to Flashbang.
Slayer glanced down at them before moving over to take a seat where Brandish had been. "So what is this about?"
"Straight to the meat of it I see." Marquis sighed. "It seems Miss Slayer, I have gotten myself into a bit of a pickle as it were, though through no fault of my own."
"I would think being a crime lord would have been a choice for you." Slayer frowned.
"Alright, some fault of my own, but I didn't break the unwritten rules." Marquis glared down at the men on the floor.
"If we start talking on how much the Brockton Bay Brigade fucked up, we'd be here all day." Slayer offered. "I've read the report. Let's skip that and tell me why you wanted me to be here?"
"As I was saying. Thanks to these fools I've been outed as a cape. I've made quite a lot of enemies in my life and none of them would think twice about striking at me directly." Marquis explained. " Honestly I have no problem with that, if they can take me they deserve to, but so far none have, however, I have more than just myself to tend at the moment."
Marquis gestured as the bone wall surrounding the closet pulled away enough for the door to be opened. Creeping out of the dark closet was a young girl, covered in freckles, perhaps no more than six or seven. She took a look around the room before rushing over to Marquis grabbing his hand while trying to hide behind his chair staring around the edge in wide eyed panic at the room and those in it.
Marquis squeezed her hand and smiled. "This is Amelia Claire Lavere, my daughter. Her mother died last year, a woman I hadn't had contact with for a long time suddenly pops back up and tells me I have a daughter and I need to take care of her. Oddly, I found that raising a child rather suited me in a way."
Slayer stared, though neither she nor Alucard said anything.
"Thanks to this lot, I can't do that, either some local fool will come after her, or I will wind up in the birdcage and cannot myself. And raising a daughter on the run would likely be worse."
"You are not explaining what this has to do with me." Slayer frowned.
"I will release the hostages and cooperate with PRT in bringing down what remains of my empire, IF and only if, you take care of her in my stead." Marquis stated.
"You have got to be fu..." Slayer started before she glanced to the girl." …. kidding me."
"I am not." Marquis smiled.
"Why would you even think this is a good idea?" Slayer demanded.
"I saw you on Oprah." Marquis shrugged. " You seemed quite comfortable with the kids that were brought for an autograph, and the statements of your own inability to have children certainly tugged on the heartstrings of more than just the audience."
"That was on script." Slayer sighed.
"Perhaps some, but not all of it, your goggles don't hid your expressions that well." Marquis smirked. "You even thought it wise not to bring in your terrifying projection as you spoke with the kids."
"Actually that was because Alucard refused to show up to the interview." Slayer sighed.
"Oh?"
"I wanted to be on the Martha Stuart show. I have a meatloaf recipe that is just to die for." Alucard offered. " The trick, is to use oatmeal instead of bread crumbs."
"I will admit it is good, if a little rare." Slayer shrugged.
"In any event. You are one of the if not the highest profile cape on the planet Slayer. Because of Ellisburg there are elements of the underworld that won't touch you, and the PRT is watching over you as you are their replacement for Hero. " The Marquis shrugged. "With the state of the world, there is not another person on this planet would would be able to protect my daughter better."
"I really think you need to rethink this." Slayer muttered.
"A surprisingly noble goal for one such as yourself." Alucard hummed.
"Well Slayer? " Marquis asked offering his daughters hand a squeeze as he stared at the woman on the couch before him. "Do we have a deal?"
Slayer turned her eyes down, looking to the girl staring at her from half behind the chair.
The paramedics rushed to the front steps, several police helping the members of the Brockton Bay Brigade down and onto stretchers, the three males of the group seemed the worst off, though none of them escaped injury.
Marquis strode out a few moments later, with his hands in the air, followed closely by Alucard. The PRT quickly moved to secure him and took him in the opposite direction of the BBB.
Slayer moved down the stairs afterwards carrying a figure bundled in a blanket.
Despite her face looking as stoic as ever, Emily Piggot was freaking out internally as the young girl continued to cry, knowing her father was being taken away. She made her way towards the transport that brought her here, waving off those that looked to see what she was carrying or help her with it.
Alucard watched the proceedings a moment before he strode over to Brandish who was fretting over her husband and brother.
"Do keep in mind. You OWE us." Alucard grinned, staring at the three with his smile showing quite a lot of sharp teeth, before he turned away following Slayer into the transport.
This just kept getting better an better..

3Chapter 5
Emily Piggot gripped the sink in the hotel room, reaching up to wipe away the steam that had accumulated on the glass from her shower.
Her platinum blond hair clung to her face and shoulders, the PR team suggesting she grew it longer, though she flat out refused to let it get far past her shoulders, even having it that long felt off to her. Her steel gray eyes regarded her form. She had a good bit of muscle from training, though she was far from bulky, while she didn't have the body to be a model or even a stripper, she had enough curves to be attractive if she tried, so long as no one was disgusted by the mass of scar tissue taking up a good portion of her torso.
She growled pushing her hair back out of her face meeting her own gaze in the mirror. Fuck, she wasn't even thirty yet and had a six year old that wasn't even hers. Emily had no idea how to deal with this.
They were still in Brockton Bay, with everything that had happened she was dismissed from the joint training in Canada and kept here until things could be settled.
That meant mostly paperwork of course.
She had already spoken to Director Brown about the situation and had hoped the woman would order her to give the girl up to some one else.
Instead she had told Emily that, whatever was to be done with the girl was her choice to make. Then she went right into Emily's next assignment. She was to head to Chicago to investigate a serial killer, possibly a Wet Tinker that had been terrorizing the city.
She would be given the dossier when she arrived in Chicago, though for the moment she had to figure what to do with Amelia.
Emily sighed rubbing the towel through her hair again before stepping out of the bathroom and into the suite's bedroom to get dressed.
The girl was already asleep on the hotel rooms bed as Emily put on some sweat pants and a tank top. She left the girl on the bed and headed out into the living area of the hotel room dropping down onto the cheap couch the place had, and rubbed her eyes. Amelia could have the bed, the couch was good enough, she'd slept in worse place after all.
It had only been three days, but Marquis was being fast tracked to the Bird Cage. Even knowing where he was going the man was being quite cooperative and following through on what he promised if Emily took the child.
"You seem conflicted, or constipated, one of those."
Piggot opened her eyes looking over at Alucard who sat in the rooms ratty easy chair, sipping from a blood pack.
"Why the hell are you here?" Emily sighed. "I thought you were going for a walk."
"I did and it was the most boring walk ever, it's cold, the PRT is everywhere, and I couldn't even find a pick pocket to have a light snack on. What even is this place?"
Emily ignored him laying down on the couch with a grumble grabbing at the blanket draped over the back of it and pulled it over herself.
"If you're going to be here keep it down, the kids trying to sleep, and so am I."
"Rather caring of you."
"I'm not heartless, just what the fuck am I supposed to do with a kid?"
"the popular plan is to try to raise them to be better than you are."
Emily turned her head looking at Alucard over her shoulder for a moment.
"What!? You're not the only one with hidden depths. I like kids, they're fun, very impressionable, I've had a few myself... been a couple too in certain times, you could get away with a lot as a waif in the wars."
Emily grunted in annoyance. "I don't even think I'm going to keep her. There has to be better for her than me."
"You will keep her." Alucard stated.
"And why the hell are you so sure of that?"
"Because you promised, and if you won't keep your word, why should I keep mine?" Alucard stated his voice darkening.
Emily whipped her head back around nearly rolling off the couch only to see Alucard was no longer there.
Another three days in Brockton Bay passed before Emily was cleared to leave. Alucard said nothing else about his statement and she didn't feel like asking for further clarification.
The paperwork for Amelia was pushed through in record time, and the PRT PR people were ecstatic with a way to try and humanize Slayer further and appeal to another demographic.
Emily threatened to sic Alucard on them if they so much as looked at Amelia, if nothing else she was going to try and make sure the renamed, Amy Claire Piggot, was going to have as normal of a life as she could manage.
With a last stop to pick up anything that might have been left at Amy's former home that she might want or need, the trio were taken to the airport for the trip to Chicago.
Emily tried to make small talk with the girl, though Amy was very close mouthed and with drawn, no real surprise to be fair.
This was going to make things tense, particularly while she was going to be in Chicago solving a serial killer case for more PR cookies or whatever the hell they were after.
Chicago
Slayer rubbed her temples over the top of her goggles.
"I didn't join the PRT to make announcements and look pretty for the cameras." Slayer growled at the Chicago Director Myrddin.
The wizard cape shrugged.
"Not my call Slayer. Word comes from on high and we have to deal with it the best we can. I have a hard enough time dealing with The Folk here, a bio tinker murderer running around is a bit out of the norm and more your thing."
"I wouldn't say I have a 'thing' per say, but if they already had the cape ID'd why did they bother calling me here?" Slayer grumbled.
"Prolly cause it's been two years and sales of your merchandise are slowing. They probably wanted to put you back in the big news so they can sell more of your line before Christmas." Myrddin suggested." A hostage negotiation is nice, but it doesn't sell product."
"Of course."
"Hey don't knock it. PR machine keeps us getting paychecks." Myrddin made a gesture and a SD plush version of Alucard appeared in his hand." I mean come on, what kid wouldn't want a chibi vampire projection of their very own?"
"Please tell me that thing doesn't have any voice lines."
Myrddin squeezed it and it started playing a high pitched version of Alucard's laugh.
"Only does that, none of the other thirty voice lines he recorded were deemed appropriate. They're hoping it's this years Tickle Me Elmo."
"Gods... Under no circumstances is Alucard to find out this thing is finished."
"Err... He cleaned out our gift shop of them earlier."
"DAMN IT!"
Chicago PD, main district house.
"So this is his sister?" Slayer asked looking at the woman in the meeting room through the two way mirror. The pretty looking brunette was chatting idly with one of the camera people who was there to film the interview between Slayer and the Bio Tinker's sister.
"Yup, Christine Akines, parents Charles and Laverne, both deceased, victims of the Holy War. Younger brother James, Deceased, and Chris, our Perp." the officer stated. "Guy is known as Lab-rat now, has about thirty murders to his name including his own brother, then he evidently went cape."
"She seems rather chipper for having her younger brother killed in front of her by her other brother." Slayer stated.
"Ehh I've seen all kinds a ways people deal with tragedy. Had one guy in here who watched his wife get gunned down in front of him by a drive by, couldn't stop laughing. And not the 'ha ha' sort of laughter either, the sorta shit you hear in horror movies from the killer. Kept it up for about two days before it caused an aneurysm that killed him too." the sergeant sighed. "Seen a lot of fucked up shit, capes just tend to make it worse. No offense."
Slayer glanced to him and sighed. "None taken, I've had more than enough experience to know you're right. Where's Alucard?"
"Your projection? You don't know?"
"He's got a mind of his own."
"Shit that must suck, having a power that does it's own thing."
"You have no idea."
The door burst open and another officer rushed in. " Sergeant, there's some sort of ghost dog terrorizing the drunks in lock up!"
"There he is." Slayer offered with a sigh.
Slayer stared at the girl curiously, so far all the questions she had been told to ask were answered perfectly, the rather pleasant brunette had given a perfect, if horrific, account of the death of her youngest brother and the one who killed him.
Slayer didn't think it added up though.
Every other victim of Lab-rat had been experimented on, and it was mostly homeless people and occasionally a drunk, or late night straggler, plus many of them survived the experience, whether they wanted to or not.
But the body of the youngest brother was just carved up like a turkey. While that fed into the idea that he was a serial killer before he triggered, why would his entire pattern change? Most of the previous victims were business men, or guys out for a night on the town, with a few women here and there, all killed with a bladed weapon. To switch completely to killing a child then experimenting on people rather than killing them out right? The only thing she could think of was the supposed Tinker drive might be playing a part, but why leave them alive afterward at all when he was done?
It wasn't impossible, but it seemed odd.
Christine stuck her as odd too, the girl was far too cheerful, too nice, too professional. Slayer knew people like that existed, but something felt off. Time to deviate from the script a little.
"I thank you for your time Miss Akines, I just have one further question." Slayer stated getting a few frowns from the officers and media present for her deviation. "Do you know of any reason Lab-rat might have changed his targets after he killed your brother? From evidence gathered he's no longer killing people directly, unless the experiment goes bad, a far cry from the multiple stab wounds of his previous victims. Can you think of anything that might account for such a change? Guilt, loss of his weapons, anything?"
The smile the brown haired woman had had the entire interview slipped for a moment.
"No, I'm afraid I have no idea what changed. He was always a quiet boy growing up, never living up to his potential of course, like our parents said, but I had no idea he was capable of this let alone had been killing people for a year or more already. I just wish I had come home a few minutes earlier, perhaps I could have stopped him."
Slayer nodded, noting the woman was dabbing her eyes as if to dry her tears, but there wasn't so much a smudge of her make up, or dampness on the handkerchief. "Thank you for answering my question."
"And I must say, I love your perfume, what is it Crimson, 34, 35?" Alucard asked with a fanged grin The vampire having hung back most of the interview watching her quietly.
"Err, it's Lilac Dream." Christine offered. "Avon makes it."
"Ahh, apologies, I'm not that good with perfume names, lovely scent however."
Rosemont Hotel, two days later.
Emily rolled over on the couch out in the living/ kitchen/ den area, of the extended stay hotel. Amy had the bed again, and Alucard was... well hopefully not going to find those Illinois Nazis he went out looking for.
Well.
Hopefully he didn't find them just because of the paper work she would need to fill out, not for the Nazi's sake.
There was a rumbling outside that drew Emily's attention to the curtain pulled across the glass door out to the balcony, this place was way too damn close to the airport for her tastes, but it was all PRT was willing to pay for in Chicago, place was expensive.
Amy was still withdrawn, nervous around her and Alucard. Emily came up with an idea and the pair of them had gone out to a show earlier at one of the casinos, it seemed to go well. Amy had evidently liked the stage production of Hamlet with lions.
Unfortunately at some point Amy had gotten one of the damn Alucard plushy as well.
She could still hear the damn things squeaky laugh if Amy rolled over on it in her sleep.
A light click drew her attention as a door opened, and there was a faint sound of swishing clothing. Alucard had likely come back again, guess Elwood had steered him wrong on his hunt.
She was about to say something to him when she noticed the ceiling was staring at her. Emily froze looking up at hundreds of black and red eyes that slid along the ceiling, some looking down at her most looking over towards the bedroom door. She had seen Alucard do some weird shit, but this was new.
There was a muffled curse from that direction and Emily slowly sat up on the couch peering over the back of it towards the bedroom door. The eyes above her closed though Emily could still see the faint outline of them covering the door, where a darker shape was crouched down fiddling with the lock.
She moved from the couch carefully, wincing at the loud creaking of the springs.
The figure whirled from the door seeing Emily's silhouette against the city lights glowing around the cheap curtain behind her.
"Fuck." Emily growled as she was lunged at, the figure colliding with the back of the couch and falling over it in it's desire to get to Emily. She herself scrambled for the coffee table and her gun, only to realize that due to Amy being there, she had locked it in the room's safe, which was in the bedroom.
"Fuck." Emily cursed again, that girl was going to learn gun safety as quickly as she could pull it off just so shit like this wouldn't happen.
Her attacker stumbled over the couch rushing at Emily again, only for the coffee table to get flipped up and smashed into the figure forcing it back. Emily quickly moved back towards the balcony door grabbing at the curtain and yanking it down off the rod that held it with a clattering of plastic rings falling to the floor.
The airport lights in the distance and the highway bathed the room in orange illumination with the occasional flash of the air port strobe. Emily immediately took stock as soon as she could see.
Her attacker was garbed in black clothing, balaclava, and gloves, had two large knives, one in each hand looked like combat knives, possibly survival, one had an odd angle, likely a kukuri. Figure seemed to wield them with at the very least familiarity. Shape of the form suggested female.
"You picked the wrong room to try an rob lady." Emily snarled.
"No. I didn't." the figure snapped back in a familiar voice.
The figure lunged again lashing out with the blades forcing Emily to move back trying to keep out of reach in the small floor space of the living room.
"STAND STILL AND DIE!"
"How about you just give up before have to hurt you." Emily snapped drawing in a sharp breath as one of the blades sliced across her forearm, she could feel the hot rush of blood and the pain, that was probably going to need stitches.
Her attacker pressed her momentum, switching her grip on one of the blades to stab it forward into Emily's chest, only for Emily's foot to smash into the black clad woman's stomach instead launching her back away. The attacker let out an inarticulate cry of frustration and rage as she fell over the over turned table with a crash giving Emily a moment to breath.
The woman in black surged back to her feet with a cry, the cheap wood of the table splintering as she kicked it aside and rushed Emily again.
There was a sound of crumbling drywall and a faint whisk followed by a resounding 'WONK' as Emily ripped the curtain rod free off the wall and brought it around to connect with the woman's head. The impact staggered the woman, though the same sound repeated several more times as Emily Piggot bent the fool out of the aluminum bar by beating the shit out of the woman with the knives with it.
A few moments later Emily clicked on the light, clutching the bloodied and bent bar in one hand, her own blood running down her other arm as she looked at the black clad figure laid out on the ground with a frown.
She looked at the bent bar tossing it aside thinking to up the hotels rating in her review for using a sturdier curtain rod than expected.
Moving over to the figure Emily collected the knives, tossing them in one of the cabinets in the kitchen so they wouldn't be found easily if the woman did recover, before she crouched down and pulled off the baklava.
Emily let out a held breath as she looked at the battered brown haired woman who lay on the floor. A woman who several days ago was calmly discussing how her brother was a serial killer.
"Alucard." Emily growled. "Is there a reason you didn't help?"
"Two really." The man smirked as he faded out of the wall." First and foremost I was protecting Amy and making sure she slept through the whole thing."
"And the other reason?"
"Watching you get into a knife fight in just your underwear was everything I hoped it would be."Alucard purred, looking over the panties and tank top she wore..
Emily groaned rubbing her face with her hand as she cursed into her palm. "I'm going to call the cops, and put on some clothes, make sure she doesn't get up."
She was going to invest in several full sets of Pajamas tomorrow.

Rebuilding this thread after the loss of the last thread to trolls and spambots. Mods swear it's under control now.
To recap,
The woman, the Myth, The Legend, not that one, THE Slayer. The hero we didn't even know we wanted or deserved until her appearance.
Say what you will about other heroes, but when your first known outing has you ending an S-Class threat that wiped out an entire city, you know you're a badass.
Stats are as follows according to the PRT websites.
Master 8
Brute 1
While most people are very wary of those with a Master tag, people tend to forget that a Master rating also is used when there's a controlled projection like in the case of Slayer.
Not every master is there to take your mind, weeeooooowoooo.
Brute one is there because she has evidently survived some shit that would kill a normie.
The bit of interest with her is her projection, the vampire looking dude that's in the photos you see of her. There's some power rating for him as well but given what we've seen him do in endbringer fights, dude had to be sandbagging hard to get the numbers that low.
I mean come on, A brute, mover, striker and stranger 3, that's weak sauce, how does some one with a score that low take out Nilbog. Slayer's projection has got to be scalable to the threat and she just didn't feel like telling it to put forth any effort with power testing.
Last known location i had was in Brockton Bay, any of you down in that city know what happened, all I have in the middle of no where is rumors and speculation of some big shakeup.

I'm from BB, and yeah Slayer was here, seems one of the local teams, the Brockton Bay Brigade, decided they wanted to break the unwritten rules and take out the gang lord of the city Marquis. And it seems they failed , big time... again. Well this time Marquis decided he had enough and turned the home invasion into a hostage situation. I'm not sure what went on, but on the second day of the stand off i was pokeing my nose around the police line when this huge armor plated SUV pulls up in front of the roped off spot i'm standing and when a cop opened the door Slayer just stepped out of it, with her projection right behind her.
I was close enough to almost touch her. she looked around and then she just walked down the block and up into the house. About six minutes later Brandish runs out, and ten minutes after that the rest of the Brockton Bay Brigade staggers or was carried out. Then Marquis walks out the door with his hands up and the PRT is all over him and he just goes along with them not even resisting.
The Slayer walks out carrying some bundle and gets back into the SUV tank thing with Alucard and they drive off.
She walked into the home of the most infamous villian cape in town, a guy who fought the Slaughter House 9, the Teeth, a crap ton of other heroes and not only lived to talk about it, but kicked their asses out of town, and Slayer just walks into his house and he gives up!?

Alright i have another update. Slayer's in Chicago, and get this, she caught a serial killer who was hiding their murders by blaming them on a cape Bio Tinker that's been running around.
According to the news, she was attacked in her hotel room by the killer and took her down like it was nothing.

Not much a surprise dude, a cape versus a normie? No contest for the cape.

Windy City resident here, i got some more to add.
News was doing a piece about the Wet Tinker running around. Nut jobs turning homeless people and drifters into monsters. Some of it's real Jeckle and Hyde type shit you know, some of it your wouldn't know anything got changed on um at first glance. Though evidently the guy killed like thirty four people slasher movie fashion before he Triggered.
So somehow the PRT got Slayer in on this to do the interview.
They brought in the capes sister to talk about him, i saw the interview when it aired, girl was super hard on her brother, psyco or not. At the end you can see Slayer go off the script a little with how surprised the girl seemed at the question.
Slayer asked her if she knew why her brother went from chopping up people to turning them into TROMA rejects, and she went off on a bit of a rant about her brother and didn't answer the question really. But then Slayer's projection, Alucard, asks about her perfume, just out of the blue, asks if it's crimson 34 or 35.
Well couple days later, the sister attacks Slayer in her hotel room, and turns out she's the one who carved up the first victims, including her younger brother, and blamed it on the wet tinker. And this is the fucking best part. there were thirty four slasher victims, thirty five if you count the brother.
The freaking projection called her out on it and no one got it.

It's pretty bad, i live in Bellingham, bout and hour and a half up the coast and we had warnings and lock downs and forced evacuations. A couple of buildings on the coast got flooded, but it wasn't that bad here. Friend of mine lives in Seattle and he says the place got wrecked, but the death toll was surprisingly low for a leviathan attack, the heroes hit him hard and fast and evidently did enough damage to drive him out pretty quick. It sucks, but it could have been a lot worse. Tally is still going on, though it's kinda hard as there's not many bodies, there havn't been for the last couple of Endbringer battles, what the heck is going on?
