3Chapter 34

Emily sat back in her chair holding the foam tray with one hand and the fork with the other as she chewed what was some rather surprisingly good chicken Alfredo. Amy sat across from her with most of her costume removed and draped over the back of her chair, the cloak and armor were a bit bulky to be sitting eating lunch. She had chosen to go with a Ruben and fries, and from her expression she was surprised as well.

Pocky sat at Amy's feet, head lifted up and peering over the top of Emily's desk begging for food. Not as if it worked on any of them, at least not any more. Amy had pointed out the over sized house cat had done it on the cafeteria staff and had made out with a few dozen chicken strips before any one caught on.

Alucard had another chair that was pulled up and was sipping a bag of blood through a crazy straw, both of which he had pulled out of a My Little Pony tin lunchbox.

"Soooo. How much am I going to have to watch over short dark and moody?" Alucard offered.

"Hopefully not at all. I've given her the ultimatum." Emily offered waving her fork as she swallowed. " If she can't keep her baser impulses under control then I want nothing to do with her."

"I'm hoping she can, because I would hate to lose a sparring partner." Amy offered.

"Is that the only reason?" Alucard hummed.

"That and she has a nice ass." Amy shrugged.

"Ah hell, I do not want to be having this conversation." Emily sighed.

"Don't tell me you're upset your daughter is interested in women?" Alucard raised an eyebrow.

"Hardly, I am however upset at which one she's looking at." Emily countered.

"I said she had a nice ass, not that I wanted to date her." Amy huffed.

"Small favors. What about the other Wards?" Emily asked.

"I don't want to date any of them either." Amy stated.

"Not what I meant... I meant in terms of sparring." Emily sighed.

"Oh, dunno. Pretty sure only Aegis would be up for something, but I can tell he's nervous because I'm a girl. Clockblocker needs a lot of work, he can't even stop Pockey from sitting on him. Gallant doesn't seem to care much, and Vista is a little too eager for my liking. I've not really met Spitfire yet so I don't know."

"Her situation is complicated, but even if it does work out she's likely to head to Canada for training." Emily shrugged.

"Frostbitten hose heads." Alucard muttered as Emily rolled her eyes.

"If possible I'd like you and Dennis to take her down to do some shopping off the board walk early Saturday. I'll have a few plain clothes head out with you, but they'll stay back unless there's an issue. Lunch will be paid for you three and a small budget will be allowed for Emily as well for any necessities. Try to be casual, and be sure to reign Dennis in if he goes too far. I need him to be comic relief but not enough to drive the girl away."

"I can do that. There's also a zoo an hour or so up the coast I want to go to, word is one of their giraffes is sick." Amy offered.

"You need to ask Renik that sort of thing, remember. I don't see why not though, sounds like the sort of PR thing people would love. Your first hospital visit is late Saturday as well, I've got Mouse Protector and Armsmaster scheduled to attend as well. Despite Renik's annoyance at Mouse, she will easily keep attention from you. This will be the first public outing to show what you can do. I don't expect bullshit, but I made sure we were prepared for it as best we could be. Remember if you get kidnapped, I'm sending in Alucard and Slayer and I don't plan on seeing a single prison cell occupied after they are done."

Amy rolled her eyes. "I really will hate to see how you react when I actually start dating."

"Classic style. Shotgun, an easy chair and a vague yet menacing conversation with who ever it is while you get ready." Emily admitted.

"And probably a PRT tail."

"Not sure if I want to abuse that power yet. Depends if I like who you bring home or not." Emily smirked.

"Really did your dad ever do that to you?" Amy grumbled.

"He probably would have if I had dated any one or shown an interest while he was still alive. He was military before that became kinda pointless. Though he did meet mom while he was stationed overseas so I guess it worked out for him." Emily noted.

"Story time?" Alucard grinned as Emily rolled her eyes.

"There's not much to tell. Dad met mom while he was stationed in Europe, they hit it off and she moved back to the states with him. She had been a cop in England and got a job doing much the same here." Emily shrugged.

"Really and you managed not to have an accent of any kind." Amy asked.

"Not for lack of trying. When I first started talking I fell right into using moms completely outrageous cockney accent. But dad managed to get me to stop by the time I was five. He thought it cute on mom but worried how the kids in school would react to it."

"I can picture you with a cockney accent and it is the funniest thing I have ever pictured." Alucard chuckled. "Come on regale us with a vocal trip through the moors."

"No."

"Awwww."

"So what were their names. I mean you mentioned they were both killed in the Holy War but not who they were." Amy asked.

"You'd probably hear about them in class if we lived in Ohio, they were a pretty big deal with how all that ended and how many they and their police department saved, there's even a monument just outside Columbus for them all. But no, dad's name was Sergeant Montgomery Piggot.

"I can totally see your dad being a Montgomery." Alucard cackled.

"What about your mom?" Amy asked.

"Well before she married my dad her name was Seres Victoria." Emily offered. "I get my hair and figure from her evidently."

"Pretty name." Amy offered.

3Chapter 35

"So to summarize, once things are settled you will be doing a one month rotation with a Protectorate member. Armsmaster is currently off rotation due to a project that he is working on however. The rotation was meant to start the first of December, but between getting everyone settled and everything that's happened this week, plus the holidays we have opted to set it back to the first of the year. Your first month will have you paired with Miss Militia , your second month will be with the team Renik is building for Search and Rescue operations. Your power has a good chance at being useful for both in terms of securing problems and putting patients in stasis, once you have a better handle on what is expected of you, you may be called upon for either team."

"Alright." Clockblocker nodded.

Emily tilted her head a little, the boy was rather subdued, looking around like he wanted to say something but couldn't figure out how to. Emily had expected him to be cracking jokes and acting like Assault or Mouse Protector, but thus far aside from to ask what Mouse Protector had named the potted plant she had, he hadn't even been that weird.

She suspected something was wrong, but if he hadn't spit it out by the time the meeting was over she was going to ask directly.

" Also I see that you are scheduled to be off tomorrow, though I will ask if you wished to work two or three hours about 10. I want to send you and Amy as civilians to the Boardwalk along with the possible new Ward, Emily, to see about getting her some things she needs or wants."

"I can do that." Clockblocker nodded. "I didn't have anything planned really."

"I will have a few agents sent along in plain clothes as well, but it is mostly going to be you and Amy. Don't try to sell the Wards or let on who you are. As far as she knows, Amy is a daughter of one of the office workers here and you are a friend of hers. Neither of you are to talk powers or who you really are unless a class 4 event happens."

"Class 4? Wouldn't a class 3 usually be enough to break secrecy?" Clockblocker asked.

Emily raised an eyebrow, cranking her expectations of the boy up a little. "Normally yes, but your priority is to keep Emily and Amy away from any issues that pop up. Emily's not a Ward and she shouldn't be expected to do anything like she was just yet. Amy would jump in to help and realize later that she doesn't have a mask. Let the agents with you handle it, keeping your cover is your priority, I doubt I need to let you read the reports about what the Teeth did in Boston if they found out about some ones kid. I also don't want any of the gangs to know about her or Amy just yet. I am clearing you to freeze them if you have to to keep them from jumping in in anything short of a large risk of lives from a cape."

"They won't like that." Clockblocker offered.

"I expect not, though you have not managed to catch either of them with your little greeting prank." Emily narrowed her eyes.

"As you said ma'am, Emily's not on board yet and to be honest Amy scares me, I would rather avoid 'ALL the cancers' as she puts it."

"She isn't allowed to do that to any one." Director Piggot chuckled. " She can give you chicken pox or hemorrhoids if she wanted though. Only things that are treatable."

"You are not helping ma'am."

"Was I supposed to?"

Clockblocker huffed though he didn't seem to rise to the bait of the teasing. This made Emily a little more worried on what was bothering him.

"Do you have any questions on your assignments, or the future plans?"

"No Ma'am." Clockblocker offered." This is something I sort of expected to happen when I first joined up, the gun safety in particular given how many I've had to deal with in my time here."

"Alright moving on then. I would like to ask your opinion of the other protectorate members you work with as well as the other Wards. None of this is official record, but it is to help me understand everyone."

"I'm a little leery about what any one else said about me." Clockblocker muttered. "I've never really interacted much with Armsmaster, I think Vista has spent the most time with him, though he always struck me as a little too serious about his job, kinda like Battery actually. Both of them want to be a hero and be the best they can and they don't like when things differ from how they think things should be. Armsmaster will let certain things slide, not because he's cool like that, but like he doesn't understand humor or most normal human stuff or whatever."

Emily blinked, she was starting to suspect that people greatly underestimated Clockblocker, and Dennis as a whole.

"Assault and Mouse are the opposite. They know the job but they have fun with it and it isn't what defines them. Though with Mouse Protector I can't tell how much of her is an act or if there is even a line between her and her costume. " Clock Blocker continued. "Miss Militia and Moon Dog are kinda middle of the road. They can be serious and they can have fun with what they do. I've not seen Miss Militia out of costume so I can't say anything about that, but Moon Dog seems to do okay on his days off, though with how people act around him sometimes I think there might be something with his friend he goes to see that puts people on edge. Probably a known criminal. I doubt it would be a merchant, but it might be some one from the ABB or E88. If it was Faultline's group or another freelance cape no one would be on edge this much."

Emily upped her opinion of the boy even higher. Perhaps his being team lead was not such a risk after all.

" And the other Wards?"

"Gallant kinda follows after Armsmaster and Battery in that he takes his job too seriously. Though I know he knows how to relax as he's dating the popular girl in school and those two can get a bit sickening when they get going. Aegis is more relaxed, like Moon Dog and Miss Militia, but he still tends to go full on fearless leader mode at the drop of a hat."

Emily made a note to look into Gallant's Girlfriend in case something might leak. She doubted he told her anything but she might have found something out about him and if they broke up she didn't want that to be an issue, they were only teenagers after all, she would have to check Meadow's notes to see if there was anything about her later.

"Shadow Stalker is outright a bitch and needs to be removed from the team and thrown in the deepest hole you can find and left there."

Emily raised an eyebrow at that, there was some real hatred there. She considered asking about it, but he had moved on to the other one she was concerned with.

"Vista..." Clockblocker sighed pushing up his mask over his head and Dennis stared at her with a worried look on his face. "You didn't hear this from me, but there is some shit going on at her home that really is screwing with her. She rants sometimes when we're out on patrol. I think she does it because she thinks I'll just blow it off or make a joke, but her parents are constantly fighting, nonstop to the point they actually hate each other and the only reason they are still together is because of her and something Youth Brigade set up with them, so neither wants to fight for custody to the level that would be needed. Sure she's twelve, but she's been here longer than any one other than some of the office staff, or Armsmaster. No one takes her seriously due to her age and that drives her nuts as well. Honestly I don't know how she's not snapped yet. "

Emily narrowed her eyes. " Do you have proof over any of this?"

"What like recordings? No. I didn't record her rants, that feels like it would have been a betrayal of sorts, this kinda does too, but somethings gotta happen soon. She needs help or at the very least to get out of where she is now." Dennis offered. "If nothing else can you have some one look into it?"

"I had planned on it, though I didn't have a angle or a reason before. Now I have at least suspicion which is enough. Thank you for bringing it up."

"No problem, I hope it's enough to help." Dennis sighed though Emily noted his tension was still there and even easier to read now that his mask was up.

"It should, now to one more thing. What is it that you are still holding onto? You can't be that afraid of me to be as nervous as you are." Emily stated.

Dennis blinked and smirked a little. "I dunno, half the building heard you go off on Stalker."

"She deserved it. Plus she needs to get over herself. You don't have that sort of record to be afraid of me... unless you did something recently..."

"NOOO no no no, I saw what happened to Mouse, Alucard, and Assault. I have no desire to take an after school job as a janitor." Dennis offered. "Seriously those guys in marketing need potty training videos , no one but them use the third floor bathrooms for a reason."

Emily blinked and decided she didn't want to know but the Janitors pay raise and new hires did just jump up a little on her to do list. "So what is it?"

Dennis sucked a sharp breath between his teeth. " It's …. well it's my dad... he's … the chemo is not working. The bone marrow didn't work... I heard Druid could heal all sorts of stuff like that and I..

"You wanted to know if she could have a look at your dad to try and fix him?" Emily offered.

"Yeah. And you're her mom so I figured I might ask you cause well, after that fight, like I said she scares me."

"You realize I'm the one that trained her right?"

"And I now regret the path I chose."

Emily nodded and tapped a few things on the computer before her. She opened a particular file and put in Clockblocker's info along with the others. "Where is he at?"

"East Brockton Hospice, so does that mean..."

"Dennis. Do you know how many people in this building have issues. Either something incurable or some old injury or what not? We're up to forty seven now and that's just the PRT side of things, we haven't even checked the Protectorate personnel yet. Renik and I started making a list right off. We fix our own people then move out from there.

Amy agrees with this and we are trying to gather everyone we have with an issue at Brockton general for Druids first visit there. I can't expect the people I work with to do their jobs properly if they have a loved one in need of help.

This goes for their pets too, which Amy was very adamant about. Your dad is now on the short list to see if she can help, given how you described his condition there is a high chance it will. We don't want to over work her though. There may be people bitching, but she is only one person and I will not let her work herself to death trying to heal everything.

The last person who insisted that she heal them from their problem a little too forcefully wound up also having to be healed from a number of broken bones in addition to their original issue. "Emily explained." And I made sure that he had to go through normal slow healing."

"Uhhhh."

"Like you pointed out Dennis. I am her mother, and it's not her you should be afraid of." Emily smiled. "Keep that in mind if you think to try and ask her out."

"Noted ma'am ." Dennis swallowed.

3Chapter 36

"So to summarize, once things are settled you will be doing a one month rotation with a Protectorate member. Armsmaster is currently off rotation due to a project that he is working on however. The rotation was meant to start the first of December, but between getting everyone settled and everything that's happened this week, plus the holidays we have opted to set it back to the first of the year. Your first month will have you paired with Moon Dog, your second month will be with the team Renik is building for Search and Rescue operations. I'm not familiar enough with how you power works to be able to tell how you would be able to help."

"It's not that hard. Thing of it like sticking a pencil through some paper then folding the paper until the point touches the paper, that's what I do to reality." Vista explained.

The young girl was being professional, but she also seemed on the verge of vibrating out of her seat as Emily went over the gun and confoam grenade training.

Emily made a note to see if Major Kaisur could handle the girls gun training, she was way to eager and that needed to be nipped as fast as it could before any one got hurt.

"So you can move through it and bring people with you, I can see that speeding up moving casualties. Could you pull some one out of rubble?" Emily asked.

"No... I have to have a surface to work on and from. Line of sight isn't fully required, but I usually have to have at least seen where I'm trying to go, but i can do it through a camera so long as it's in my range which is a little over a mile right now, but I'm getting better at it..." Vista explained continuing on with some uses of her ability.

Emily blinked catching on as the girl kept explaining how bad ass her power was.

"Vista. I already know you are powerful, but I can't do anything about your age." Emily sighed as a glint of something outside the window caught her eye. "There's polices in place I can't do anything about, that includes the hours you can work and the PR patrols."

"Ugggggghhhhh seriously!?" Vista groaned showing her age finally.

"Fraid so. The gun training and confoam training are going to stretch what I'm allowed as is. Hopefully the Side Kicking program and your turn at leading the wards will be enough to show you I'm not treating you like a kid, despite that you are." Emily continued not smiling as Vista glared at her, but her attention was partially focused on what she had spotted. It wasn't a reflection, there was something there. All that should have been outside and visible from the open windows as a cloudscape and the open sea. With the sun going down the sky was still lit up and the sea rather dark, and what ever it was was just below the horizon, unnoticed save the faint glint off something. Last time she saw a glint like that in the distance someone had nearly taken her head off with a sniper shot.

Emily spun her chair around glancing in the mirror behind her desk as she shuffled some paperwork, it took her a moment to re spot it in the mirror, through it all she continued to talk to Vista as she turned around to face her again.

"Moving on from that, I've been asking everyone what they think about those they work with, not for any sort of review, but so Imight get to know them. So would you care to tell me what you think about the Protectorate members?"

"Not sure what I can tell you that everyone else hasn't." Vista grumbled. "I don't see Armsmaster very much and he's all business, Assault makes horrid dad jokes, and Battery is as professional as Armsmaster, though I s don't see her often either. Miss Militia is nice, but she's not used to dealing with any one younger than her, though she handles Mouse Protector fairly well. Mouse Protector is... exuberant... Moon Dog's the new guy so every time we're paired it devolves into an argument on the proper way to do things. He doesn't believe me because of my age despite my being proven right more times than not. Though he kinda gets a pass on being hard to deal with for being a Case 53. From what I've read sometimes Case 53's have some mental issues too so that might be it. I've only just heard of Baskerville, and I'm already kinda disappointed with Alucard."

"Really? Did you get caught in the flooding?" Emily asked.

"Huh, oh no it's just..." Vista sighed. "He was paired with Slayer and now it's just him here and not Slayer. Boston fucked up losing her and Iwas really hoping she would show up so Icould meet her."

Emily blinked." A fan of hers I take?"

"Like you wouldn't believe." Vista sighed. "And my chance of meeting her is next to nothing because the PRT and Protectorate pissed her off. Even if she's rumored to be in town, there's no chance of her coming here."

Emily rubbed her temples, she had dealt with a few fans before in PR events and every single one of them seemed to think she was the next coming of Hero. "You never know, she might pop up, ENE is not Boston."

"I guess. Anyway, Ward wise you have Shadow Stalker who is in no way a team player and after the whole thing between her and Clockblocker, she needs to have worse than console duty. Clockblocker's alright but he doesn't take things seriously at all. Aegis is well... he's kinda there, though it pisses me off that he treats me like a child despite my having three years more experience than him."

"He doesn't listen to you?" Emily asked.

"He does ,it's just... he listens like he's listening to a 4 year old tell a meandering story, like he's humoring me instead of actually listening." Vista grumbled.

"I'll make a note of that." Emily offered.

"Thanks, but I doubt it will change." Vista sighed. "Gallant is perfect... he just... has horrid taste in women."

Emily snorts." And Druid?"

"Given you're her mother I don't think I can say anything. If I say something bad it might show up poorly on my next evaluation and if i say something good it may seem to be pandering." Vista explained.

"Huh. Well, good answer, but I don't deal with your reviews, that job is for Mouse Protector and whoever the team lead is for the month. So whatever you say might annoy me , but it won't affect anything. It might even be something I've already complained to her about." Emily offered.

"Still, hard pass, better safe than sorry." Vista nodded.

"Fair enough." Emily chuckled as she turned back to face the mirror again writing something on a form that was printed up. "Alright , last couple of things, there are a few bits of updated paperwork you need to sign off on, we'll need to get your parents to sign later. Give this a quick read, it's nothing you haven't signed before, they just cleaned up the wording, paper pushers and all that."

Emily slid the document across the desk before Vista. Vista sighed and picked up a pen before freezing in place, her eyes darting to the part the Director had written on. She glanced at Director Piggot who sat back in her chair and started printing something else out before she looked back at the words.

' Look in the mirror by the left corner. Do you see the reflection of the glint outside in the distance Just below the horizon?'

"Alright, this happens though I wish they would just go digital." Vista quickly looked to the mirror her eyes darting over the corner before she saw the glint of light. She wrote a short 'Yes' next to her name and handed it back.

Emily looked at it and nodded. She took the other form from the printer, looked it over and wrote something else before passing it to Vista. "There's a few of these I'm afraid."

Vista glanced down at the paper and the note.

'Can you use the mirror? Can your power reach that far? It looks like a platform of some sort.'

Vista worked to sign that one before handing it to Emily.

'Yes, if glass is gone, out of range otherwise. '

Emily blinked at that, that was a little secret of Vista's power she suspected. Did this mean the girl couldn't yank some one out of a closed room, or did it follow air currents? Something to bother with later when it became relevant.

"Okay, should be the last one." Emily offered writing on the paper." Once you go through this you can go for the day."

Vista looked down at the paper.

' Get ready. Do it once the glass is gone . Put it out there and right in front of me, then get under the desk and hit the panic button to bring in help.'

Emily was certain that glint out there was either a scope of some kind or a pair of binoculars. If someone was looking at her she didn't want to run the risk that they had a spy mic or could read lips.

Vista signed the last paper with a flat 'yes' on it and Emily nodded.

"Well seems that should be it, I'll see you out." Emily rose from behind the desk, bringing up the shotgun left there by Meadow's, she took a step to the side of the desk and fired at a corner of the window, slam firing the custom shotgun for three more shots to the edges of the glass before the massive panel collapsed into shards of safety glass. Two more rounds left in the gun.

"NOW."

"Keep it steady." Victor ordered. The man sitting in a odd position with an unloaded sniper rifle held up as he stared through the scope at the window.

Rune stood behind him offering a sigh, seriously could he fucking not, she'd like to see him keep a chunk of concrete this big in the air, under the horizon and as still as this out over the water where the fucking wind was tearing at her in the middle of fucking winter. They did not make coats thick enough for this shit.

" What's she saying?" Rune asked instead, anything to keep her mind off the cold.

"She's asking Vista's opinion of the other Protectorate members. I can't see Vista's responses from her position , though it seems mostly witless banter. " Victor sighed. "Still this is what Kaisur wants. Though i don't see why he is worried about another desk jockey. Even if she is head of the PRT. "

"He has to have some reason." Rune muttered.

"He always does. They are talking about paperwork now. The only thing of note is that the wards are going to get gun training. Honestly that is something they already should have gotten given their jobs. "Victor hummed. "Gun safety is very important. We already have too many of the faithful who keep shooting themselves in the leg or some such shit. Othala isn't here to patch back up stupid."

Rune chuckled, though it was cut off as Victor swore.

"What the fuck is she doing... RUNE MOVE!" Victor bellowed as a burst of heat came from Rune's left looking over she saw a blonde woman in a dress suit with a large shotgun standing in an odd distortion on the edge of her platform.

There was only a moment to react and Rune remained frozen as the woman reached out and grabbed Victor, yanking him towards her as the distortion faded out.

"What the fuck... VISTA!" Rune shouted urging her rock towards the building where she knew the other girl was in hopes of rescuing Victor.

Emily hadn't expected so perfect of a thing from Vista, she certainly had to give the girl credit on skill. For a moment there was just showering glass and the next a blast of cold air hit her as part of her room in front of her was now on a floating block of cement out over the bay.

Her eyes darted over the two costumed people before her, before she took note of the sniper rifle aimed at her office and she grabbed the man yanking him back onto the carpet of her office. She wasn't as familiar with the cape scene here as she could be, but she had been reading up on things and the costume he was wearing had her immediately identify him as Victor.

As did the kick to her arm that sent the shotgun skittering across the floor to the other side of the room. Emily cursed as he rose from the floor in a fluid kip up jabbing hard at her with the butt of the sniper rifle. She turned , the weapon glancing off her shoulder as her free hand grabbed the stock and quickly yanked the trigger while he was attacking her with it.

The weapon made a depressing click, though Victor's eyes widened behind the mask as he realized that he only still had a hand because he hadn't loaded the weapon while spying. His worry about this woman had now increased as she went straight to an attempt to kill him. He wasn't Brad, he wasn't impressed by the attempt. At this moment though he needed to end her or she would end him.

He stepped back and dropped the rifle as she lashed out to strike his elbow, if she wanted the weapon she could have it, he could get another, and he would rather keep himself as uninjured as possible. He was going to have to put her down, he knew the type, she hadn't said a word, there was no banter, this was a woman who grabbed a cape and started trying to end him with her first movements. He drew his knife and pulled on his power, drawing what he could from the woman, PRT training, advanced as well, the rank and file he had taken from before didn't have this level of skill. Well, now neither did she. Victor was some what impressed, though he also knew he needed to get out of here or kill this woman. He could beg Kaiser's forgiveness later if it was the latter.

Emily winced as her head throbbed suddenly, the knife blade brandished by Victor slicing through the air

and she couldn't react. Muscle memory kept her from losing some fingers, but she now had a bleeding cut across her left palm as she stepped back with a hiss of breath. She cursed to her self as he advanced lashing out and stabbing at her in a CQC she knew, but some how couldn't remember counters for.

Her arms were getting slashed up badly as she tried to block. Well if melee was out, she dropped her hand to her hip grabbing her 1911, she could still shoot a mother fucker.

Victor saw her drawing the gun, and Emily felt herself forget how to shoot properly with another lancing headache. Victor lunged forward again, only to suddenly fall backwards flailing as the ground he had been standing on was suddenly in front of him, thrusting his foot forward and making him fall back to hit the corner of her desk.

Emily surged forward slamming bodily into him feeling the knife slice across her side as he was pushed up on top of her desk with Emily throwing herself on top of him. She brought the gun up, turned it sideways and slammed the barrel down into his lips , shattering a number of Victor's teeth and nearly forcing him to gag on the well oiled weapon as it was forced into his mouth.

"Move and i will need to get a new desk because the color of Nazi blood does not match the rest of the room ." Emily snarled. "I don't need a single fucking skill in my head to pull a trigger asshole. Drop the knife."

Victor froze his eyes wide, though there was a thud as he opened his hands and the knife fell to the floor.

" Incoming!" Vista cried and Emily looked to the window as a massive chunk of concrete soared at the gap with Rune atop it.

A loud roar of a gunfire sounded from behind her as the remaining glass shattered on that side of the room. Miss Militia and Alucard stepped through the door, opening fire with a glowing green mini gun and a pair of over sided pistols respectively.

Chunks of the concrete shattered as Rune brought the bottom up to block the gunfire, even though most of it seemed to bounce off like rubber, a number of PRT troops rushing into the room to take up firing positions as well with con foam launchers. The Nazi cape took a look over the edge as more of the cement was eaten away at what she was against, before the whole chunk soared into the air out of view.

"Get a chopper after her!" Emily shouted at one of the PRT officers that had come in after Alucard and Miss Militia.

"Yes Ma'am." he shouted and ran out.

Emily let out a small sigh as a group of other troops came in to deal with the pinned Victor.

"Honestly do i need to set up medical right outside your office mom?" Druid grumbled resting her hand against the side of Emily's neck as the slashes healed up. " You lost a good bit of blood too and it's not like you have much body fat for me to heal from."

"Don't pull any more from my chest, I hate buying bras." Emily grumbled as she finished telling the story of what happened to Armsmaster, Alucard, and Miss Militia. The broken windows shutters were closed and the rooms temperature was starting to climb again.

Victor had been hog tied six ways from Sunday, gagged and put in brute level restraints. No one wanted to find out what sort of skills he had stolen that might get him out. Apocalypse Meow also followed after him eyeing him like he was a meal.

Vista had been debriefed and sent home, with a massive grin on her face.

Druid grumbled as she finished, before she stomped over to one of the guards and issued orders to get the cafeteria to whip up some liver, some surgery things ,and a a lot of any other kind of food before sending him off.

"You have not even been here a week yet Director and you are already drawing the interest of the E88." Armsmaster hummed.

"He had a sniper rifle and it was pointed at this office." Emily growled. " I've had Wards in here all day, and that glass is not rated high enough for a fucking fifty cal."

Armsmaster looked at the rifle in question laying over the blood splattered desk.

"Always a treat to watch you work... shame I missed it this time." Alucard smiled.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever at least you didn't make a crack about my tits this time." Emily offered waving a hand at him, though she stopped and grinned just as wide as the vampire cape, it was rare she could annoy him this much so she was going for it.

"First!" she shouted making Alucard frown and the others in the room look confused, save Druid who slapped both her hands to her face.

"Oh you cheeky bitch." Alucard growled.

"It's one to nothing " Emily chuckled at the vampire. "Get on my level Alucard."

"Your pffft WHAT!? I've killed thousands of Nazis!"

"Pics or it didn't happen." Emily laughed as Alucard just glared at her.

"I do not like where this is going." Armsmaster sighed.

"What?" Miss Militia asked

"Mom Please don't use meme jokes..." Druid whined.

3Chapter 37

Saturday.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

Click.

Emily ejected the empty magazine clicked on the safety and set the 1911 down on the table before jabbing the return button on the pad next to her, the faint whine of a motor was heard as the chain holding the paper target reeled back in towards her booth.

She regarded the target a moment before frowning a little.

"Well?"

Emily did not jump and she certainly didn't let out a yelp at the voice right behind her. What she did certainly do was turn and glare at Major Kaisur who was flicking his knife open and closed behind her idly while looking over her shoulder at the target she brought back.

"It's within acceptable accuracy." Emily frowned.

"We told you it would be. Victor can fuck some one up hard with only a short contact, but it doesn't last long. We know he's got a way to pull it permanently as we've had a few troops that showed up unable to do a damn thing, but they were missing for days." Jer'rahd offered.

"I wanted to make sure myself." Emily retorted.

"Respectable that you needed to know for yourself. But you think you're done beating up my troops now?" Jer'rahd asked.

"If you're here, that means you were going to be the next one stepping up to make sure my CQC was back up to snuff, so yes I'm quite done with that."

"Pity, you've got some people afraid of you now, I need to stomp you to put that fear back where it's supposed to be." Jer'rahd grinned.

"Did you get the message I sent you major?"

"Yup. I'll ask her tonight, but you know she's gonna want to have words with you about a few things." Jer'rahd offered.

"I didn't expect anything less." Emily sighed. "Now that I'm satisfied with this I have some work left to do. And I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop."

"Youth Guard?" Jer'rahd questioned.

"Very much so. You have your squad ready for transport?"

"Yep. It would have been nice if Dragon could bring in a ship for us, but this works."

"Has the mole been fed?" Emily asked.

"Yup. Both of them, and we let one know we know about the other one, so the compromised mole gets the correct info to pass on and the one that thinks he's fine gets false info and the info we know about the other one. Then we bring the hammer down on them." Jer'rahd grinned.

"Good. I want Victor to either arrive in custody for trial in Boston, or the Nazis to get him back in a body bag."

"We can't do that." Jer'rahd frowned. "Much as I'd like to."

"Let me have my fantasy." Emily grumbled.

"And over here we have Fugly Bobs. Home of the worlds best grease induced heart attacks." Dennis offered sweeping his arm to the side towards the restaurant. " You can tell that it is the best, because thus far it is the only place on the entire Boardwalk that does not have Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving."

Amy shook her head as Dennis continued to play tour guide for the pair of them. The new girl, another Emily, and wasn't that confusing for some people, was actually smiling at Dennis' antics. Amy couldn't help laugh at some of the jokes as well. She wasn't really familiar enough with Brockton Bay to show Emily around, but Dennis had lived here his whole life and was quite happy to share that as well as little anecdotes about why things were. Half were made up she was sure, maybe.

Their minders stayed far enough back that they weren't really noticeable, or at least Emily didn't show she saw them.

They had gone into a few shops, tried on some clothes while Dennis lamented his cursed position in waiting on them and boasted about with his being male that the two completely different shades he was shown were the same color.

They stopped and watched a rather interesting puppet show put on by Parian in front of her shop for a group of children. Amy took note that one of Parin's assistants spent more than a little time staring at the three of them.

Amy wasn't sure why the blonde took an interest in the three of them, but it was something to note as she also seemed to spot their minders, though it may have been she was simply looking for trouble, and a trio of teens at a puppet show might be as suspect as a couple of plain clothes PRT, trying not to look like they were PRT, and failing.

Even the enforcers had noticed those two. The only way they could have been more obvious would have been if it was Mouse Protector in a trench coat.

Dennis had mentioned she had done that before, and every one ignored her because it was way too silly to be believable.

Granted that had been before they met up with Emily, to her, they were just the kids of PRT office workers who were bribed to help out with free food and some spending money.

If Emily believed it or not she still seemed to be going along with it and enjoying herself, which was the point after all.

Now she simply needed to remember to bring back a burger for Pocky, or the big baby wouldn't forgive Amy for making her stay behind at home today.

"I want you. To explain to me. WHY he was using a sniper rifle to gather intel."

Rune swallowed hard, this was not a question, but at least Kaiser's anger wasn't directed at her.

"He told me that the scope on it was better than any binoculars he had." Rune offered.

"Why didn't he get a range finder or a telescope, or whatever those things are that snipers use to find the target?" Krieg asked.

"I don't know, maybe he didn't have one?" Rune shrugged. "I didn't ask."

Kaiser sighed reaching up to rub his temples, the metal mask shifting to expose them so he could do so.

"Krieg, did you give him the file on Emily Piggot?" Kaiser asked.

"I did, though I am not sure if he read it." Krieg admitted.

"Figures, that would have saved us this annoyance if he had." Kaiser sighed.

"Why what was in the file?" Rune asked curiously not having been told much aside from to be Victor's transportation.

"Emily Piggot was a member of the PRT's special operations and tactics, or SOT. Primarily she was a Sniper of the unit and had earned the nickname of 'Lady'. Do you have any idea how bad ass some one has to be to earn a moniker like that in a ground unit? " Krieg offered. "According to what we got from her sealed files she participated in eighteen separate missions, that were documented, two of which resulted in sniper duels, one of them with a Church of the Angel cape named Sure Shot, who was not known to ever miss.

He's dead. She is not. At the very least this means that she is either very lucky or very skilled, and with damn good eyes either way. You said that the blast windows were down around her corner office every where but facing out to sea.

That was likely so that no one could get a good sniper angle on her from the nearby buildings and when Victor had you fly out to sea to look in, she must have spotted you."

"Had he read the file I expect he would have been more careful. Now I need to waste resources to get him back before Othala starts complaining. "Kaiser frowned. " Victor is useful, but not useful enough that I would bother to recover him from what is surely going to be a well protected convoy given he attacked a PRT Director. But to keep our only healer happy however..."

"Our sources have already made mention of a few things. He is being moved Sunday. Several transports will be heading out as cover. One of our informants has revealed that the PRT is feeding information to another and he has been exposed. Though a third has pointed out both are compromised. The truck being protected by Miss Militia is the real truck. The ones with Armsmaster, and Assault protecting them are decoys. Alucard, Mouse Protector, Battery, and Moon Dog are remaining here in case some one decides to try something." Krieg explained.

"Send Hookwolf and his team after a decoy, tell them to cause enough carnage that it draws others in. You take the twins and Alabaster to go after the real truck. They are going to trade off with the team from Boston at the border facility. I want him free well before then."

"As you command Kaiser."

Sunday.

The plan went off like clockwork. Hookwolf and his team were keeping Armsmaster and the PRT team occupied. Storm Tiger and Cricket had been left behind in favor of a bunch of mooks. Hookwolf didn't see the need to go all in on a decoy no matter what Kaiser said. Despite this, his actions had drawn Assault and his decoy truck full of PRT troops, to him to keep Hookwolf's rampage from destroying the highway and all the traffic on it.

Krieg and his team hit Miss Militia's truck just north of Seabrook. Fenja and Menja went after Miss Militia, destroying her bike and keeping her away from the truck. Miss Militia evidently took offense to her bike being destroyed and skipped her usual bean bag rounds and formed a China Lake to start shooting at them forcing the twins to both focus on not having parts blown off them.

Krieg wished he had brought some rank and file of his own to help out and swarm her, but too many people would have brought more attention, than a old Ford Escort with four people in it following the van.

Alabaster and Krieg took on the PRT Troops after Krieg forced the truck off the side of the road and down an embankment. The driver and the passenger survived long enough to get out and start shooting at the pair. They actually managed to catch Alabaster in a confoam grenade before Krieg finished them off.

Had they been white he simply would have left them injured, hoping that they learned how wrong they were in their actions against the Empire, but lesser animals like those two should have never been allowed to exist, let alone work for the government. Clearly a lot still had to be changed to ensure that this world was made proper, and the rightful race was in power.

He sprayed Alabaster with some solvent taken from the truck to remove the confoam before letting the man finish freeing himself as he moved to the back of the truck.

Tearing open the back of the truck Krieg stepped into the darkness letting his eyes adjust from the sunlight.

"Victor you idiot. We are here for you." Krieg huffed before blinking as his eyes adjusted fully to the dark cab.

"You are not Victor."

"Nope. Give daddy a kiss."

Alabaster tensed as he heard screaming from the back of the truck, the sludge of the solvent and foam clung to him as he moved around the truck with his rifle. The screaming stopped before he got there and his eyes widened as a man stepped out of the back of the truck, nearly as pale as he was, save for rivets of blood running down his chin and dripping onto the red long coat he wore.

Jet black hair flowed out behind him as it was caught in the wind. The man glanced to him and placed a wide brimmed red hat on his head letting out a deep sigh.

"I am very annoyed, you know." Alucard offered, turning to stare at Alabaster. "I come to town with word that there are actual Nazis running around, and I absolutely Love Nazis, very flavorful. But I get here and what do I find? Not Nazis! At best you idiots are sparkling white supremacists, you're only Nazis if you come from the Nazi region of Germany and you lot probably crawled up from the south and traded your white hoods for swastikas at the Mason Dixon line. Disappointing."

Alabaster screamed out opening fire on the man only to watch as the bullets hit and do shit all to the man.

"Careful, I just got this coat, boss lady would get annoyed if I messed it up already." Alucard offered then tilted his head regarding Alabaster." Heeeeey, I know you, you're that regenerator guy, I've been looking for you, you're gonna cut my food budget in half easy!"

Alabaster fired again backing away screaming out to the twins about the trap.

"Holy shit. That is a huuuuuuuuuuuge bitch... two of them too. Oh the fetishes those two bring to mind. Wait, are they twins!? How does that Nazi fuck manage to get anything done with these two around?" Alucard hummed before turning his attention back to Alabaster. "Level with me flour power, Is Kaiser gay? Because hot damn."

Sunday Evening, Boston PRT

The PRT Trooper at the gate raised an eyebrow as what was best described as a cross between a hippy panel van and one of those Japanese cars covered with anime girls rolled up at the gate. The two men sitting inside both looked like they had gone for the Cheech and Chong look and come close save the death metal shirt one of them wore, and the military style haircut the other had.

The Guard called in the van before he stepped out of the booth and gestured for his partner to move to the other side of the van while he was sure there were others getting ready on the other side of the gate.

The driver rolled down the window and offered a wave.

"State your business here..." The guard trailed off as the driver offered a badge and a folder to the guard.

He took it looking over the badge and raised an eyebrow at the PRT ENE logo on it.

"One Nazi cape delivered as ordered." The passenger offered gesturing to the back where a sedated Victor was heavily restrained on a gurney with four fully armored PRT troops sitting over him.

Monday

The whine of a drill bit on steel echoed in the small workshop. More than a dozen uniformed PRT Troopers stood in formation behind the man working at the bench, others would have been here, but there was always work to be done. With them also stood Director Piggot also at attention.

The man at the work bench stopped, flipping up the protective mask to blow the shavings off the metal plate he had been etching.

Major Kaisur sighed reading the names. Captain Jeremy Marcos and Lieutenant Gaberial Jordan. He looked over the metal plate. It was an insert from one of the older models of body armor, rather than ceramic or other ablative material the older bullet proof vests used steel plates, the biggest issue with them was that they weighed a lot.

Major Kaisur sighed reading off the five other names on the plate not counting the two he just added. His vest had 15 such plates, six on the front and nine on the back. Every single one of them was covered in names. Men and women who had died under his command in the course of his career. When the plates were full, or they became too heavy for him, he was going to retire.

Neither of those had happened just yet.

He slid the plate into his vest turning around to those gathered with a nod as he secured it. Those here knew what he did and why were all here save his wife.

"They lost five of theirs, but it cost us two of ours." Major Kaisur offered. "Do any of you think this is a fair trade off?"

"NO SIR!" the group all barked back.

"Damn right. I don't want to have to carve a single one of your damn names on one of these things. Do you understand?"

"Yes Sir!"

"Dismissed."

The group all snapped a salute to him and departed with the only noise being their booted feet as they left the room leaving the Director and the Major alone.

"Your pet cape should have acted faster." Jer'rahd offered.

"He had his orders not to do anything until they opened the door. Krieg killed two men in cold blood without a hint of hesitation. His death was justified at that point, at least in any court of law that cares to look. The Twins are going to be in ICU for months if not longer as Miss Militia didn't bother holding back against them either, that probably saved her life. Alabaster is was forwarded off to Boston with the others." Emily offered back. "PR's going to throw a shit fit about spinning this, but fuck them. The first letters of PRT do not stand for public relations."

The Major simple hummed at that.

"I'm setting up a monument in the courtyard. I'm thinking something like a stone spike or the like to engrave names on. I can't do what you do with the armor as I'm not in the field to bear the weight. And as head of the ENE I'll have a lot more names than you do by the time I'm done."

"You're handling it better than I do." Jer'rahd offered.

"No. No I'm not. I'm just handling it differently. Take the rest of the week off Major. Enjoy thanksgiving with your family."

"Hell of a time to die . Right before the holidays. Jordan had two kids. Marcos kept going on about some bartender he met." Jer'rahd sighed.

"Never a good time to die Major. Particularly not to some Nazi piece of shit." Emily sighed. "I've still got shit to do. The paper work never ends."

Jer'rahd nodded before looking to her his eyes narrowed.

"Let me know if you need any help."

"With the paperwork?"

"Don't feed me that bullshit. I saw Slayer is now listed as a vigilante cape. Fresh this morning."

"I don't know what you mean Major. No one would want to risk their retirement on doing something like that. Particularly you when you're so close to it."

"Fine then 'Lady'. "Jer'rahd snorted before he offered a fanged smirk. "Happy hunting."

Winslow, Monday

"What The Fuck Do You Mean You're Leaving?" Emma screeched.

Sophia rolled her eyes as both Madison and Emma stared at her. A few of the others in the hallway did the same but a glare from her sent them running.

"That's what I said." Sophia offered. "I'm getting transferred to Arcadia at the start of next month."

"Why?!" Emma demanded.

Sophia glanced to Madison who took the hint and scurried away.

"New boss told me under no uncertain circumstances it was gonna happen." Sophia muttered.

" Well tell her to fuck off. "

Sophia shuddered a little. A wolf she might be, one did not mess with an angry mama Kodiak. Particularly when it was one that did what she did to a Nazi cape. She had seen the shape both Victor and Piggot had been in at the end of that fight, as well as the condition of the room. She was not going to fuck with that woman.

"Can't this time or I'm done. I've got to play good little employee until she transfers or something." Sophia shook her head.

"Maybe we'll get lucky and Hookwolf will eat her or something." Emma grumbled.

"My money would be on her in that fight." Sophia admitted rather readily. "She said you could try for a transfer. The more the better leaving this shit hole."

"I tried early on, my grades aren't good enough to get in." Emma huffed.

"Hey you're strong enough, give it another shot, that place is gonna suck without some one to have my back." Sophia offered.

"Shit... what about Taylor?"

"What about her?"

"Who's gonna keep her in her place if we both leave, Madison's not gonna do it, I have to practically threaten her to do anything to Taylor any more." Emma ranted.

"Who cares about Taylor, she's just some weak nobody who's never gonna be anything." Sophia huffed as Emma's expression showed she was going to go off on a rant about the girl again, and Sophia didn't want to hear it. "My rides probably here, we'll talk later, call me."

Sophia turned and headed out, passing Madison at the end of the hall where she was waiting, the girl glanced to Sophia before heading back down the hall towards Emma.

Madison could listen to the rant, the yappy dog was good for something after all.

3Chapter 38

Brockton Bay, December 1st, 2010, Wednesday

Amy cricked her neck, glancing down at her phone with a small sigh. It was nearly nine, where were the guides that were supposed to be here?"

She couldn't use her phone as anything other than a watch for the moment, the Faraday cage that was set up around Arcadia worked on everything but certain phones the teachers and the PRT officers had. The PRT had three officers in the school on top of a general supervisor who oversaw everything and had an office on the school grounds.

One worked as the school guidance councilor and was licensed as such, one was substitute teacher who covered if some one was out, and the last was the school janitor.

The obvious officer was there and explained as a contact point for the student body in case one of the students wished to report something parahuman related or some one triggered. Several schools had such officers, at least all the ones Amy had been in had them.

Amy herself was made aware of all the contact points simply due to Druid possibly being needed in emergencies, so several excuses were set up before hand in case she needed to be pulled out of class.

She lowered her phone and looked around at the small group of new students waiting for the guides. Aside from Amy herself, Sophie was there, looking generally pissy as usual, there were two guys, brothers, that had been kicked out of the private school in the area for some reason, but they tested well enough to be moved to Arcadia.

Listening to the pair had found that their father had pulled them out rather than deal with the price hike the private school was going to implement. The last two were a pair of girls who had moved into town around the same time, they had met during the testing and hit it off fairly well.

"She's not here yet? Ugh..."

The group turned to look to the newcomer approaching them and grumbling to himself. He was a scrawny looking teen with dark hair and pale skin. He had a bit of a slouched posture and wore a shirt with a picture of some sort of green claw rising out of water, with the words 'X-COM Terror from the deep' written on it.

Amy blinked as the boys eyes seemed to briefly unfocus snapping back in barely a heartbeat later. If Amy hadn't been looking at his eyes at the time she would have missed it.

She also had a sharp spike of annoyance at something he said, but aside from the initial complaint she didn't think he had said anything else yet.

She was also pretty sure she hadn't met him before, maybe in WoW? Maybe his voice reminded her of one of the huntards in the Guild.

"Alright, sorry for the wait, but I had to wait to get all the schedules printed out for you. My name's Greg Veder. I'll be showing some of you around the campus of Arcadia today along with the slow poke."

"Wow rude much!" a female voice snapped as Greg grinned and turned to look back down the hall as a blonde girl seemed to glide down the hall. She was tall, lean, and tone, wearing a rather pretty dress that didn't hide her form as much as accentuate it without displaying it.

"I was late and I still got here before you." Greg smirked getting an eye roll from the girl, Amy wasn't sure if his eyes had unfocused that time as she was staring at the blonde.

"Hello. I'm Vicky Dallon, I'm here to help this jerk show you around Arcadia."

Brockton Bay, December 2d, 2010, Thursday

"You want her on a patrol?" Emily questioned.

"She requested it herself. Evidently Druid wanted to be out and about at least once or twice. She's on a route that was going to be covered by ClockBlocker before he requested time off for an emergency family situation." Renick offered looking at his paperwork as he stood in front of Director Piggot's desk.

The room had been repaired, though the replacement windows were not in yet so more of the shutters were down. Emily was also working on a temporary desk pulled up from an empty office as Victor's impact with it cracked the surface of her old one. Emily had ordered a special desk made for the office that would be here in a week or two.

She had also claimed the custom Dragonov that Victor had once it had been cleared to not be hiding anything. The weapon was heavily custom and in truth barely even counted as a Dragonov anymore as it had been rebuilt to use point five oh, possibly by Victor himself if he stole the skills of a gunsmith.

It was for that reason Emily decided to keep it, abusing her position a little. It was a completely different beast than the ArmaLite she used to use, but it had more heft and stopping power and she liked it.

"Anything wrong?" Emily asked.

"Quite the opposite, ClockBlocker's' father was released from the hospital, no doubt in thanks to Druid. But it was agreed that he could take a few days off of duty and school in order to have time with him. This opened a position that Mouse Protector was going to fill on a patrol with Alucard, though we felt given the prank war that happened on his first day with her, we decided to nix that patrol. "Renick sighed.

"Probably for the best and the Sidekick program will keep them out of each others hair for a while at the start of next year as well." Emily shrugged. "I've got no problem with the patrol, depending. What's the route?"

"We were planning to use patrol route three bravo." Renick offered.

Emily tapped the screen of her computer looking over the routes. "No, that one passes too close to a known contested block between the E88 and ABB."

"Not close enough for a basic PR patrol however."

"Close enough that Alucard would run towards any gunshots he heard screaming about Chinese take out and Sauerkraut." Emily pointed out.

Renick blinked looked at his notes and sighed." I'll have to make a note that he will do that when the side kicking patrols start. Six Kilo?"

"Merchants recently took that area and are linked to the arson that closed the police station in the district." Emily offered as Renick nodded muttering that he had missed that in his reading." Look it's her first one out, just give her the basic PR patrol along the Boardwalk. The two of them can start at the south end and head up to the Palanquin before they turn around and swing through midtown to finish up. Lot's of photo ops of the new ENE members, some autographs, and there might be a mugging or some shoplifting that Alucard can stop in the stupidest way he can think of. " "Ahh One Charlie. That can be arranged, I can shift Moon Dog and Mouse Protector to Three Bravo for the night."

"Alright. How long is Vista going to be out?"

"The Youth Guard rep insisted on at least two weeks for her to work out the 'trauma' she underwent." Renick offered.

"Are they paying for counseling? Suggesting a therapist?" Emily asked.

"No."

"Then how the fuck do they expect her to 'work it out'?"

"If i knew the answer to that and countless other questions, that group wouldn't be such a pain in the ass." Renick offered.

"Well I'm going to have to deal with them sooner or later myself. Also did you vet my request?"

"I did, we have three agents who fit the bill, and all three of them are willing to go along with it. I plan to have the three all look into different targets as well to muddle the issue if they are found out citing a Ward welfare check. One will be keeping an eye on Gallant, one on Stalker, and the final on Vista."

"I expect the one watching Gallant to be found out given his skills, and I would put money on Vista spotting her tail as well, Stalker is questionable that she will spot the tail or just lose them. But inform them that they are watching the family not the Wards save in Stalker's case. I want to know if what I've been told is legit or just something misunderstood. And i want to know the second that girl does something stupid."

"Of course."

Brockton Bay, December 3d, 2010, Friday

"Castlevania? That's all we have?"

"Well he's not hot enough to be Bloodrayn, and i doubt any one even recalls that one after Bowle murdered the series. Everything else is generic vampire bullshit. Worse than zombies. I mean hell, some vampires are nothing more than sparkling zombies."

"Yeah yea, don't remind me of that shit. zombies are overdone any way lately. I mean i can probably make a whip that would work with some bullshit power up or even those boomerang crosses, but there's no real part for me to play in that and Alucard was the good guy in the best of those games. Not to mention he's been seen in the day time and is on the Martha Stewart show as much as Snoop Dog. We'd be feeding the boomer video games cause violence crowd with that."

"That meatloaf recipe was great though."

"Yeah we need to make that again."

"What about using the monsters then. Flying medusa heads?"

"Oh gods... i don't even want to think about those things, let alone try and make them, forget it. At least if we do something with Druid we can just pull from the Warcraft stuff. Think Boom Cow would give some druidy tips?"

"She'd probably root for the Ward if she knew who we were, girl is angry."

"Fair enough. Hmmmm, I do have an idea for that sword that shoots glowing energy swords, how do you look in green?"

"Like the hero of time!"

"Ugh that was the worst game in the series, top down version was better than the gimmicky 3-d."

"BLASPHAMY!"

Brockton Bay, December 4th, 2010, Saturday

It said something for reputation that stepping into the noisy club brought all the conversation to a screeching halt, the music scratching into silence a moment later like the start of one of those 80's flashback montages about how some one got into some mess or another.

Slayer shifted her gaze across the crowd from behind the goggles she wore, her blonde hair pulled back into a long ponytail that she was not known to wear, but fit with her plans. The armored PRT 'uniform' that had been her costume for years was unchanged as were the side arm and other gear she usually wore.

That the logo for the Protectorate had been torn off along with her rank pips was something lost on most, though judging by the few swears that could be heard in the silence it wasn't enough for her to not be recognized.

Behind her Alucard practically floated in wearing the classic zuit suit he was known for before coming to the bay, and near him was Druid who looked annoyed at the whole mess, at least to those who could read the girls posture and constant eye rolling. Granted Slayer knew that was an act and Druid was loving this.

Slayer ignored the stares and made her way directly to the bar, with nearly every eye following her movements with a few glancing with worry at Alucard and confusion at Druid.

A young black man stared at her from behind the bar swallowing a little as he glanced to the door and the bouncer there who simply shrugged.

"I'm here to have a word with your boss. It won't take long." Slayer offered the bartender, her eyes darting down to the name tag he wore, noting the name 'Brian' on it.

Brian glanced to one of the other bartenders who nodded and headed to the back of the bar to pick up the phone.

"So how's your sister?" Slayer asked hiding the smirk as the man jerked.

"Better." Brian frowned. "Still a pain in the ass though."

"That's to be expected from kids." Slayer offered noticing Druid glaring at her and Alucard smirk wider. "Any trouble getting custody?"

"Nah, dad gave up on trying and mom was deemed unfit to be any where near kids." Brian offered clearly not liking the fact that this cape knew anything about him or his sister.

Slayer didn't bother to hide a small smile, knowing random things like this would keep people guessing, particularly if the boy reported this to his boss.

The other tender came over and muttered something to Brian who nodded and turned pointing to a door labeled employees only." Head down the hall, take the stairs on the left, then it's the second door on the right."

"Thank you." Slayer offered heading for the door and walking inside with Alucard and Druid right behind.

The office the three ended up entering was clearly not the main office of the building, it seemed more of an interrogation room with desk and a couple of chairs in it and little else.

The tinker goggles she wore, ones that had been forced on her despite her wishes, that she had never given back in lieu of throwing her normal goggles at Armstrong, had completed the room scan noting three cameras and other recording devices as well as the armored state of the walls and the hidden door behind the desk.

None of it she really cared about, Slayer's focus was on the four people in the room. The bald man on the right of the desk was about average height but had the look of some one who was considered morbidly obese, his skin was some what pale and partially translucent allowing Slayer to make out the shadow of his skeleton and organs, though odd growths covered his form. Thankfully he was wearing pants at least.

On the left of the desk was a orange skinned boy with a long lizard like tail and blue hair. He wore a vest of some sort and a pair of biker shorts, though he was clearly keeping away from the others and the desk.

Further to the left of the boy was another young man, this one holding a scepter of some sort and looking highly annoyed. He was also wearing a cheap domino mask, a tiny crown and what looked like a green sundress that he had evidently thrown on given he had on one sock and a flip flop as well, the dress didn't seem to fit his build any way.

The woman sitting at the desk drew the most attention. She wore a suit, though she also wore a pair of dark gloves that seemed pulled on from her uniform, and a armored welders mask.

Slayer did her best not to smile at catching the group unprepared, though she did approve of how quickly they got together. Faultline and Slayer stared at each other a moment, before Alucard spoke up.

"Look kid I get you might be in an experimental time in your life, but the green really does nothing for you." Alucard offered to the boy in the dress.

"I know, it's horrid, I'm more of an Autumn color, but the new line isn't out yet, and the company that makes these dresses are too good to wait." Regent shrugged." You guys also popped up before I could touch up my make up."

"Fair enough." Alucard nodded.

"So, what do I owe the pleasure of this surprise visit?" Faultline questioned.

"Don't look at me, I'm on a Wards patrol with him and he just waltzed in like he wanted a beer." Druid offered walking over to look at Newter curiously, something that took the lizard boy by surprise.

Faultline sighed as Gregor smirked a bit.

"Just a few questions actually. First and least is to ask how Trainwreck is settling in." Slayer offered.

Gregor frowned as Druid started questioning Newter about his biology.

"He is doing fine and settling in, you are rather well informed..."

"I live in this town now, I find it good to keep tabs on things." Slayer shrugged as Druid started trying to find out a place that Newter's sweat didn't form to be able to try and check him over. Her own medical knowledge of it and his gender limiting where she was willing to try to contact his skin.

"Even so." Faultline grumbled as Gregor shifted his attention between Druid's check up and the two women. "Why are you really here?"

"Right to the point hmm? I've come to double check a rumor i heard that you don't take jobs in Brockton Bay, no matter the price."

"AKK" Newter yelped as Druid finally poked a finger into the boys ear.

Faultline glanced to the boy as Druid chided him for moving and told him he needed more calcium in his diet.

Regent seemed rather impressed any one was touching Newter at all.

"That is true, though who would we work for any way? The rage dragon that hates non Asians, the Nazi's or the druggies?"Faultline offered." And none of the few independents can meet our prices."

"Just making sure. So long as you keep to that there will be no issues with my plans." Slayer offered as Druid pulled her finger from the squirming boys ear cleaning it off with an alcohol wipe discussing a few things with him that sounded like simple body make up and possible neutralization of his toxin which had everyone but Faultline and Slayer turn their attention to her.

"Do I want to know?" Faultline asked.

"You might want to know, but I'm not revealing targets unless you want to help, which then means you would be working here." Slayer shrugged. "I just wanted confirmation of your non involvement before i started."

Druid checked over Gregor frowning at his biology though answering a few questions the man asked.

"I know you have a reputation Slayer, but Brockton Bay doesn't treat solo independents well and i doubt you can get your old partner to show up all the time to help with him being in the Protectorate now."

"I'll worry about that when I get to it." Slayer smirked and turned to leave.

"That's it, show up and ask something common like that?" Fault Line growled."Next time call first."

"Maybe." Slayer chuckled heading out the door with Alucard dragging Druid off as well, the girl was trying to set up an appointment to do more checks on the fascinating case 53s.
