3Chapter 25

PRT building

Alucard narrowed his eyes.

Apocalypse Meow stared back.

"Umm nice kitty?" Assault tried to placate, looking up at the cat seated on the landing at the top of the stairs they were cleaning in the lower floors of the building. Aside from his mask Assault was dressed as a janitor in a jump suit, as was Alucard though he only had his hat. Mouse was supposedly a floor or two below them cleaning up pudding.

Alucard narrowed his eyes further.

Apocalypse Meow seemed to smile batting an object with her paw.

"Don't you do it!" Alucard growled pointing the mop he held at the cat.

"Please don't." Assault whined as the pudding filled mop bucket was inched closer to the edge of the stairs by the large green cat. A set of stairs they had just finished cleaning.

Alucard glared.

Apocalypse Meow met his glare and offered one swift slap to the bucket, sending it rolling off the top stair and crashing down the steps sending watery pudding every where over the clean steps. Alucard and Assault both swore as the bucket hit the wall on the landing they stood on before bouncing down the stairs further emptying it's contents along with a flood of dirty pudding water. The floor below had another sharp swear from Mouse Protector as the bucket crashed down to where she was cleaning.

"That's it you fucking cat, I'm gonna fill your litter box with pop rocks for this!" Alucard snarled.

"Po.. Apocalypse Meow get up here." Druid called from a floor above. The large cat's ears perked up, let off a small snort of amusement and seemed to smile at Alucard before bounding up the steps to where Druid had called from.

"I'm gonna skin that damn cat one of these days." Alucard huffed.

Assault looked at the mess and tried not to cry.

[BB Docks by the train yards, Happy Tuna Cannery]

"This the place?" the PRT officer asked leaning out of the window of the van looking up at the building.

"It's what the big guy at the union HQ said Mitch. " The driver offered pulling into a weed cracked parking space in front of the old building. "They don't come out this way often but he said this was an old cannery and one of the few places left standing that did any fish processing.

"Alright lets take a look Carl, I don't like this, we're way too close to ABB territory, but the director wants us to have a look and see if we can find this 'dog shelter' Hellhound has. "The first trooper, Mitch offered.

"I'm less worried about the ABB and more worried that Hellhound's been in lock up for three weeks. That's a long time to not have any dog food." officer Carl shrugged as the pair approached the front of the building.

A quick check of the door rattled it in the frame but it held fast. The noise however seemed to start a great deal of barking from inside.

"Well that sounds good. Front door's locked though, let's head around to the side." Officer Carl suggested.

"Right calling it in that we probably found the place. "Officer Mitch nodded reaching up to tap his earpiece. "Console this is unit 15 we are onsite at the docks at Happy Tuna Cannery, thirteen twenty three, west Lumina. Barking is confirmed on site, moving to investigate further."

"Understood 15. 17 and 4 are en route to assist. Will relay the information to Armsmaster."

"Understood Console, 15 out."

Moving around the side of the building found a few locked fire exits until they got to the back and stopped looking up at one of the loading bays. The door to it was crumpled and shoved open and crunched against the top of the bay.

"Well that's not ominous." Mitch muttered over the sound of barking dogs. He unclipped his side arm and both double checked their gear before climbing up onto the stone loading dock , one of them tapping his coms again.

"Console this is Unit 15 we've found signs of a forced entry in the back of the building, damage not consistent with that reported to be done by Hellhound, the bay roller door looks like it was lifted up and crushed into the ceiling. That's about 20 feet off the ground."

"Understood Unit 15 proceed with caution, I'm redirecting Battery and Miss Militia to your location as well."

A loud thud snapped both men's attention to the dark inside the building. There was a whine of metal on metal and a few more thuds that sounded as if they were approaching. Both men dropped back off the dock platform using it for cover as they peered over the edge of the raised stone floor into the building.

"Console we have contact unknown parahuman." the Mitch sent out.

"Confirmed, Armsmaster ETA ten minutes, ETA Miss Militia and Battery six.

The stomping grew louder and a large humanoid shape walked up out of the shadows gushing steam. The construct looked like it was hastily welded together in a humanoid shape with old car parts and junk torn out of a scrapyard. Behind the figure, a much smaller human stood behind one of the support pillars, a cheap dog mask covering her face, the girl seemed to be a teenager though she was holding back and letting the massive suit of metal approach the PRT.

Looking up the pair could see one of the object's massive arms was held across it's front with what looked like a Pomeranian mix sitting on the massive hand yapping angrily at the pair of PRT officers.

A human head sat nestled between the massive shoulders of the robotic thing, a pair of ratty welders goggles over it's eyes. The figure stared down at the two of them using the loading bay as cover and frowned as his other massive hand reached up to gently stroke the top of the dogs head.

"What the fuck do you two want?" the man in the suit demanded.

[ Later]

"So what do we have?" Emily demanded, the other end connected with Armsmaster.

"We found Hellhound's shelter. Thirty four dogs total, several of them feral, though most seemed to be domesticated and either abandoned or lost. We've contacted the local Humane Society to see if there are any missing dogs here that they might have files on." Armsmaster stated. "The animals are in very good shape and have been tended by a pair of parahumans. A young girl who admits to recently triggering and a older individual who is a tinker."

Emily took note of a slight excited tone in Armsmaster's voice at the word.

"The man calls himself Trainwreck and the BBPD has several complaints filed from the local junkyards about him. His attitude is rather harsh, but direct. I believe he is a case 53 of some sort as he claims to have no idea how he got here past waking up in the train yard." Armsmaster continued. "The pair of them both claim to have heard the barking at different times and came to investigate only to find the dogs, and both sought to tend to them. They claim to only have met each other last week when they both came by to tend the dogs at the same time, neither knows who the owner is . They both pointed out there was a large supply of food here and a pump water supply which Trainwreck upgraded. It is a very interesting design, a bit basic but the simplicity..."

"Focus."

"My apologies. The girl is listed as a run away but she was very adamant about refusing to go back. One of the BBPD officers that insisted on her coming in nearly had his eyebrows burned off when she spit fire at him. Thankfully she was clearly not aiming at him and simply trying to ward him away. Miss Militia intervened before the officer in question managed to do more than put his hand on his weapon."

"Tell Miss Militia to give her the soft sell, offer a place to crash and a shower and a meal at least while she considers it. What about Trainwreck?" Emily questioned.

"I asked and he is not interested in joining the PRT or coming in for power testing. Citing something about hating the rules but he wouldn't elaborate." Armsmaster offered.

"Tell him that Moon Dog will swing by tomorrow and talk to him, if he doesn't want to work with us I'll instruct Moon Dog to contact Faultline."

"Director I must protest..."

"Your protest is noted Armsmaster, but if he won't work with us I'd rather he join up with a group that doesn't crap in their own back yard rather than something like the Merchants or the Church. Particularly if that armored suit of his is as impressive as you say it is. That Faultline deals with quite a few Case 53's will likely help draw him her way. Keep in mind none of Faultline's crew, or Trainwreck are wanted for anything here."

"I understand Director."

"Alright does there look like a reason for Druid to head out there?"

"No Director no one is hurt and the dogs all look healthy."

"Alright, I'll have her stand down, wrap up, file the reports and I'll see if I can get some volunteers to tend the dogs until the Humane Society gets back to us. Thank you for rushing out there Armsmaster."

Armsmaster blinked under his visor in surprise. "You are... Welcome Director."

Director Emily Piggot leaned back in her chair, this could have gone badly if those dogs were dead, they got lucky this time, possibly got a new Ward as well, and maybe a favor from Faultline if Trainwreck worked out for her. She needed to make time to contact the mercenary to form her own opinion on the woman. Something to do later.

A buzz from her door alarm drew her attention and she tapped the button on her desk. "Come in."

Assistant Director Renick walked in with a rather nervous look on his face, probably recalling the door knocker remark she made.

"Oh hell, what happened?" Emily sighed looking at the man.

"Well I regret to inform you that Druid and Shadow Stalker had an altercation."

"What?"

"Shadow Stalker challenged Druid to a powerless fight in the training room and Druid accepted with Miss Militia chaperoning while Mouse Protector is on punishment detail. According to those present it escalated rather rapidly into a powered fight."

Emily stared at her assistant director, the man who actually was in charge of Druid for any disciplinary or other issues that arose, simply because Druid was the Director's daughter.

"Well?"

"Err, well what Director?"

"Did Druid win?"

3Chapter 26

Earlier Ward's room.

"Well normally we'd wait for everyone to get here but Dean is out and Stalker is a bitch." Clockblocker shrugged. "Though this is the point where we all do a happy little trust exercise and unmask to each other, and share our power list, not like we won't see each other in school any way."

"You don't have to if you don't want to however." Aegis offered.

"Nah it's fine." Druid offered leaning over the back of the couch that was taken up fully by Apocalypse Meow, and a very squished Vista who had the massive cat's head in her lap petting her.

Druid reached down pulling the mask back up off Apocalypse Meow's head , her fingers brushing the feline's ears and shifting her back into the full green tiger kitty she normally was as she pulled off the mask.

"Okay that was cool." Clockblocker offered as the feline changed before them.

"Yep this is Pocky. She's a mid tier brute and is far smarter than she lets on, so don't be fooled by her act." Druid stated only for the great green cat to huff.

"Seriously that's her costume? A mask and a little more lizardy?" Vista asked.

"Unwritten rules. She has a mask and powers, with no mask she's not messed with." Druid offered.

"Fair enough." Clock offered pulling his mask up off his face. The red headed boy underneath had a wide grin on his face as he did so. "Sir Blocker of the Clocks, also known as Dennis Stillbrook, powers of time stoppage and quickness of wit."

"Lack of wit maybe." Vista offered before pulling her mask up. "Missy Biron, powers of making the universe my bitch."

"Carlos Burgos, powers of flight and brute rating." Aegis stated pulling down his mask with a small smirk.

"Powers of redundancy you mean." Dennis smirked.

"Well ... " Carlos sighed. "He's not wrong. And yet... he's still Dennis."

Druid shook her head pushing back her hood to let her curly hair fall free to bounce lightly against her shoulders before she pulled down her mask. "Amy Piggot, bio tinker, primarily a healer."

"Biotinker?" Carlos questioned before he glanced to Pocky." Shoulda known that."

"I don't think I've ever heard of a friendly Bio tinker." Dennis shrugged. "Blasto is the closest any one has to a 'kid friendly' one, and the reports have him as a drugged out nut job."

"You're the Director's daughter." Missy pointed out.

The boys stopped speculating and looked to the youngest Ward on the couch then back up to the freckled girl behind it.

"Your mom is Director Piggot?" Carlos asked.

"Yup." Amy shrugged. "It's currently set up that Assistant Director Renick is dealing with any issues with me to avoid any sort of shown favoritism from mom. Not like she would do that, but the I's need to be dotted and the T's crossed."

"You have a pet, big green cat." Dennis stated. "How is this hidden from anyone?"

"Have you heard mention of her anywhere yet? We've been here nearly two weeks now. Pocky goes out jogging with us and I've not even seen a post about her online or in the news yet." Amy shrugged.

"I am so going to troll the PHO boards with this information later." Dennis considered, a grin starting to split his face. "I can even set her up a PHO account and get it verified by the mods even if all the posts are just Meow."

"Umm" Amy questioned.

"Nah it's brilliant, if Apocalypse Meow, the cape comes first and is all over PHO, everyone will think Pocky the normal if large cat is just a copy of some sort." Dennis cackled. "It's perfect. I'll need to get Aegis or Vista to help me verify her though, no one will believe it if I do it."

"People are not that stupid Dennis." Carlos sighed.

"Ahh, but that my friend is where you are very very wrong. A single person is smart, clever even, but the more people who gather to deal with something, the faster the IQ drops. and if i get the masses of PHO seeing them as separate kitties, then they shall always be known as separate kitties and any of the witless masses who disagrees will be banned by Tin Mother, or considered a tinfoil hatter... MUH WAH HA HA HA, mine is an evil laugh."

"Dennis half of those witless masses on PHO are your alts." Missy sighed.

"Oh ye of little faith. Need I remind you about 'Pokey Puppy?" Dennis grinned more, Amy was certain his head was going to unhinge and fall back like a pez dispenser if it got any wider.

"Please don't bring that up again." Carlos groaned.

"What?" Amy questioned, completely lost in this conversation.

"Dennis took that Pokey Little Puppy children's book and superimposed Hook Wolf onto the puppy with photo shop and rewrote the book a little to be more PG-13 rated. It became a massive meme where people online started calling Hook Wolf, Pokey Puppy." Vista sighed. "Dennis wouldn't shut up about the up votes and views, and Hook Wolf lost his damn mind when he heard about it,even more than usual. He took that frustration out on everyone and was offering a bounty on information on who started the meme. Director Meadows banned Dennis from the internet for a month and told him under no uncertain terms was he to let anyone know he came up with the meme."

"Then Mouse Protector stole my shtick and Pokey Puppy thinks she started it." Dennis huffed.

"It's safer that way." Carlos sighed." Mouse Protector can avoid Hook Wolf on her own, you can't."

Later, still Tuesday

"So I'm just supposed to wait here?" Druid asked with a small frown.

"Well somewhere on site." Miss Militia offered. "Seems your talents may be pulled into use even before you premier tomorrow."

"Ehh it's only seven, and it's not like you even have to go to school the rest of the week." Clockblocker offered.

"Fair enough." Druid shrugged.

"So have you met all the other Wards yet?" Miss Militia asked.

"No, not yet. Shadow Stalker only showed up just in time for her patrol with Vista, and Aegis is on console duty. I think Clock here is the only one left." Druid offered.

"I wasn't supposed to be here today either really, but I could use the OT, and I certainly didn't want to miss meeting the new Ward." Clockblocker offered.

"Harass the new Ward you mean." Miss Militia corrected, though she was likely hiding a smile.

"Ehhh potaaaatoe, tomaaato." Clockblocker offered. "Sides the girls should be back soon and I wanna see Stalker's reaction to Apocalypse Meow. Let's see her try that stupid Animal Planet bullshit on her."

"I have been saying this a lot today with you Clock. What?" Druid questioned.

Clockblocker looked to Miss Militia who simply shrugged.

"Keep in mind I agree with you on her mental state. While I don't want you turning someone new against her before Druid can form her own opinion, a warning of sorts shouldn't be a issue." Miss Militia stated. "Though keep it civil."

"Right, okay full disclosure I can't stand the girl, she's abrasive, rude, dismissive, violent and thinks only in terms of what I call the Animal Planet mentality. She assigns everyone an animal that she thinks they fit with, and whether they are predator or prey." Clockblocker explained.

"Just predator and prey? What about parasitical creatures, or scavengers, or omnivores?" Druid questioned.

"Dunno, and I don't know what her reasoning is sometimes. But she gets in depth. Mouse Protector is considered a Honey Badger, because nothing any one does seems to bother her, but Mouse can and will fuck you up if she wants. She was calling me a rat, and that was explained as that I don't do anything but hide behind others, I think she thought I was prey by her mindset until the whole Noodle Incident where I had to stop her from being stupid."

"Noodle incident?" Druid asked and Clockblocker grumbled.

"Classified, but it was enough to show everyone that Clockblocker here is a bit more dangerous than he lets on." Miss Militia offered, her eyes showing that she had to be smiling.

"It should have been enough for her to be dropped in Juvie, but she's been getting too many 'get out of jail free' cards on chance."Clockblocker grumbled.

"Keep in mind, most of the damage in the Noodle Incident was caused by you." Miss Militia warned as Clockblocker grumbled something about pasta before taking a breath.

"Anyway, She calls Aegis a Bald Eagle, which sounds bad ass with his flight and so forth, but then she reveals that she considers Bald Eagles little more than angry seagulls. Vista had the honor of being called a Rabbit. Which we all thought was an insult, until we learned that Shadow Stalker very much knows about Watership Down, and considers Vista small, cute, and utterly horrifying." Clockblocker continued.

"The only ones I know about are Armsmaster whom she considers a lion. Content to let the females around him do all the work, though a terror when he gets going." Miss Militia chuckled. " And she considers Moon Dog a Panther, though he feels that's a cop out."

"No idea about Assault or Battery, but she has some respect for them, and Velocity transferred out west before she met him." Clockblocker offered. "Most of the rest of those in the building she ignores, though Vista said she called the head of the troopers a T-rex before and she actively avoids him."

" Great...this sounds less Animal Planet and more Disney's Wild Kingdom, horrible inaccuracies and all." Druid sighed." Not even sure I wanna know how I'd rate."

"Probably as nothing, maybe one of those parasites you were talking about mooching off your mother's position."

Clockblocker sighed at the new voice and Miss Militia looked up. Druid turned and raised an eyebrow at the girl leaning against the wall behind them. Full covering body suit with what looked like metal armor plates. She had a folded crossbow hanging from her belt under a black hooded cloak that seemed to turn purple as she shifted under it like felt with an under color, her face was covered by a metallic looking mask that looked like it was designed to mimic a statue, the recesses of the eyes were open but the eyes were hidden behind some sort of black lenses.

"I take you're Shadow Stalker." Druid offered sparing a glance to Apocalypse Meow who was watching the newcomer with interest. "Like the cloak."

"Whatever, PR forced it on me to become, more approachable." Shadow Stalker snapped. "This your thing rat, talking shit about some one behind their backs?"

"You weren't here Stalker." Clockblocker offered." I'll happily talk shit to your face too."

"Clockblocker, Shadow Stalker stand down." Miss Militia snapped.

"Whatever. So who are you supposed to be?" Shadow Stalker questioned staring at Druid.

"If you had shown up on time to the meeting you would know." Miss Militia stated flatly.

"I'm Druid. The new Ward." Druid offered offering a hand which Shadow Stalker ignored.

"Great another one. So what's your stupid power, making plants grow?" Shadow Stalker questioned.

"Well I could do that, I'm mostly a healer." Druid offered.

"Great you're a glorified band aid." Shadow Stalker huffed, Druid frowned.

"A good bit more than that. Granted I have to be able to do more as I can't simply turn to smoke to run away if things get dicey." Druid stated.

"What did you say bitch!?" Shadow Stalker rushed forward getting in Druid's face.

Druid didn't flinch having expected this, though she did hold up a hand to keep Apocalypse Meow from pouncing on the other Ward. Something Miss Militia did not miss.

"Enough." The worlds most famous gun bunny ordered. "All three of you stand down."

Shadow Stalker snorted before blinking in confusion at why there were three told to stand down.

Apocalypse Meow growled drawing Shadow Stalker's attention, making the girl flinch as she noticed the massive dragon cat staring at her.

"That means you too." Miss Militia snapped pointing at Apocalypse Meow, the great feline beast offering a huff before flopping back down on the couch. "Druid I know you are new but I also know you were told not to encourage Shadow Stalker. And Shadow Stalker you're already in hot water and it's never a good idea to piss off the person who is going to patch you up if you get hurt."

"I'm not going to withhold healing just because someone's pissed me off." Druid huffed as if insulted by the implication.

"Whatever. You've got a big mouth girl, but you're writing checks your ass can't cash." Shadow Stalker growled.

"If you want to think that, by all means." Druid offered a smile under her mask.

"What part of stand down do you two not recognize." Miss Militia huffed.

"Fine lets find out, you me training room for a spar." Shadow Stalker snapped.

" That's not a good idea. Stalker is one of the best unpowered hand to hand fighters in the Wards." Clockblocker offered. "Vista claims the top spot on powered, but she cheats."

"Alright." Druid nodded. "No powers, just skill."

"Or lack of it girl." Shadow Stalker chuckled.

"Where the hell is Mouse, nobody fucking listens to me." Miss Militia growled as Apocalypse Meow perked her ears. "Okay the cat listened."

Apocalypse Meow offered a small yawn in response.

3Chapter 27

PRT building training room

The large training room smelled of old sweat and leather, with an undercurrent of the wood oil they used to polish the basket ball court on the other side of the room. On this side there was a thick layering of rubber mats on the floor with a square painted onto it.

Shadow Stalker and Druid both stood in the square eyeing each other.

"Alright. I want a clean fight, no powers, no low blows, no giant cats..."

"Shut up." Shadow Stalker snapped at Clockblocker, who flipped her off in return.

"Clock leave it." Aegis stated as Vista did bad things to space and Aegis grabbed Clock and pulled him to the other side of the room away from the pair where she and Apocalypse Meow sat just off the edge of the mat, by the wall. Aegis nodded and took a step forward to the edge of the painted square.

"I still think this is stupid. What was Miss Militia thinking letting Stalker pick a fight and why did Druid agree?" Vista huffed.

"Miss Militia's a bit too soft touch with kids, you know this, and Stalker knows it." Clockblocker added not seeming to be that upset about being pulled away." Hand held candy girl went to go find the big cheese to deal with our level of stupid."

"Hand held candy girl?" Aegis asked.

"MM" Clockblocker smirked.

"That was bad even for you. That was Assault 'dad joke' level of bad." Vista groaned and even Apocalypse Meow seemed annoyed with him for the joke.

In the middle of the training mat, Shadow Stalker had stripped off most of her gear leaving herself in a pair of tight pants and a long sleeved unitard, gloves, and her mask.

Druid reached into one of the pockets in her cloak and after searching a bit pulled out a pair of gloves pulling them on.

"Gloves? What, afraid you'll chip a nail?" Shadow Stalker taunted.

"Nah, my power works on touch, fights even spars get heated, so I'm putting these on so I don't accidentally go too far and stop your heart. " Druid pointed out as she pulled on her gloves. "It'd be a pain to restart it."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night." Shadow Stalker huffed.

Druid shrugged and pulled off her hooded cloak, dropping it at the edge of the mat before pulling off her armored vest leaving her in the cargo pants and a sports bra top.

"HOLY SHIT!" Clockblocker cried out, pointing at Druid who was still had on her face mask in case any one came down here, the training area wasn't as secure as the Ward's room.

"What?" Druid blinked.

"DAMN girl I need to know your training regime so I can look at it and despair at how out of shape I am." Clockblocker continued.

"Seriously?" Vista frowned. "Boys."

"Do not give me that pipsqueak, look at her, look at her. You could grate cheese on those abs, you cannot tell me you are not either impressed, horrified, interested, or all three." Clockblocker flailed.

"Are we going to have to make you take the sexual harassment course again Clockblocker?" Aegis sighed.

Vista was rather silent in response to his demand.

Druid blinked looking down at herself briefly. She didn't see the big deal, sure she had some abs and some muscle, but her mom had more definition, and bigger boobs to boot. Druid wasn't thrilled that she didn't have anything like that yet.

"Muscles don't mean you can fight. Lets go." Shadow Stalker snapped.

"You ready? You ready? Good. Go!" Aegis called after checking with both of them.

Stalker moved, and Druid had to duck away from a couple of swift strikes aimed at her face. Druid frowned as the other girl kept going lashing out in fast jabs and punches at a speed that surprised her. Druid moved blocking a few with her forearm as she lifted her guard, not having expected Shadow Stalker to be a boxer.

A kick lashed out suddenly hitting her side and Druid reflexively dropped her elbow and trapped the leg against her barrel wincing at the impact and wondering if that was enough force to crack a rib.

Shadow Stalker kicked off the ground with her other foot and spun in the air, her heel nearly slamming into the side of Druid's head only missing by an inch as Druid yanked her head back but the blow still caught her cheek and sent her tumbling back to the ground with a crash as Shadow Stalker hopped back to her feet with a smirk.

"That's one fall for Druid." Aegis stated as Druid picked herself up with a grumble.

"You learn your place yet piggy?" Shadow Stalker taunted.

"It was best of five right?" Druid offered standing back up and reaching up to rub her cheek.

Shadow Stalker nodded at that bouncing back as Druid repositioned herself.

"GO!" Aegis snapped.

Shadow Stalker moved, darting forward with a flurry of punches that Druid moved out of the way of or blocked again. She let herself be lead back and again Stalker lashed out with a kick only to find Druid had dropped to all fours under the kick Surging forward to slam her shoulder against Stalker's thigh as she tried to complete the arch of the kick.

Druid's right arm shot up wrapping over Stalkers thigh while her left hand grabbed Stalkers right arm yanking down hard on it as she completed the charge standing up and shoving Stalker forward.

The movement took Stalker's other foot off the mat just before her head and shoulders slammed into it from Druid's 'football tackle'.

"One fall for Shadow Stalker." Aegis called. "Break."

Druid pulled back, quickly ducking out of range of a swipe from stalker as the girl surged back to her feet.

"So you do have some fight." Stalker growled.

"Hey I needed to learn it. Not all of us can turn to smoke so they can run away." Druid snapped back.

"Read my file bitch?" Stalker growled. "Not everything's in there."

"Seems you did the same with me." Druid smirked. "And same thing."

"GO!" Aegis snapped and the two rushed each other again.

This time was a bit different as both of them were trading blows, seemingly having taken the measure of each other in the last two bouts. Despite the viciousness the two were giving each other, very few hits connected, both were likely gonna bruise up from this, but at the moment neither could gain the advantage and the impact of flesh and cries at the attacks filled the room.

"Holy shit... this is some MMA shit here. Dean is gonna hate he missed it." Clockblocker offered.

"I'm sure his girlfriend will be happy he's not watching two half naked girls beat the crap out of each other." Vista grumped.

"Okay one, only druid is showing any skin, and that's just her arms and those sweet abs. Two, we knew Stalker was gonna try this, we just didn't expect Druid to be into it as well." Clockblocker offered. "Three, don't be hating girl. Vicky is nice."

"You're only saying that because she's blonde." Vista grumbled.

"So are you, but nah, I like redheads." Clockblocker offered. "And those of the raven haired persuasion."

"And brunettes." Aegis offered.

"Them too. And the ones with the weird anime colored hair, I really like those." Clockblocker continued." Ehh, blondes are okay too."

"Dude you need a girlfriend." Aegis huffed.

"As if any one could put up with him." Vista added.

"You two are cruel... sooo cruel." Clockblocker grumbled.

"Two falls for Shadow Stalker." Aegis called.

Druid had managed to get under a punch and shove Shadow Stalker back sweeping her leg at the same time sending her down to the mat, with Druid following behind and wrapping the other girl up in a rather complex looking hold that Aegis had seen some of the Troopers use to restrain irate or drugged subjects when the con foam couldn't be deployed. He wondered where she had learned that, before wondering if the rumors about Director Piggot might have been true after all.

Not the one Clockblocker came up with about her being Slayer though, that was just dumb.

Druid untangled herself from Stalker and rolled back to her feet keeping an eye on Stalker as she surged to her feet.

"Next Round. GO!" Aegis shouted as the pair retreated to their corners.

Druid and Shadow Stalker surged at each other picking up where they left off in the blows.

"We really need some one higher up here for this." Aegis sighed.

"Neither of them would wait." Clockblocker offered. "We barely managed to convince them to listen to you as ref. Only the threat of Vista keeping them apart and me tagging them got us that much."

"From Shadow Stalker any way." Vista agreed. "I figure Druid would have backed down if Stalker did."

"Probably... HEY!" Aegis offered before shouting at the two on the mat.

Druid had gotten a hold of Stalker again, the girl a much better grappler than expected, which countered Shadow Stalkers style of quick strikes rather well.

The problem this time was Druid had gotten Stalker into a head lock and arm bar and was looking to either make her tap out this time or drop her and finish. Shadow Stalker turned to smoky black mist and flowed back though Druid in her breaker state, reforming and snapping her arms around Druid putting her in the same headlock she had put Stalker in.

Druid winced, both from the feeling of the breaker state passing through her and the sudden reverse lock.

"What happened to no powers?' Druid gasped .

"If you're in a fair fight, someone fucked up." Shadow Stalker offered with a snarl.

"Okay then." Druid agreed her free hand reaching up to her mask, pulling it down off her mouth." If we're playing that way."

Druid promptly bit down on the fleshy part of Shadow Stalker's inner elbow where her costume was the weakest, her teeth sinking through the tight cloth.

Shadow Stalker cried out at the bite, tensed up, then slumped bonelessly back to collapse on the mat.

Druid spat out a bit of blood with a curse and stood up rubbing her neck before pulling her mask back up over her face.

"Uhh...Three falls Stalker... Druid wins?" Aegis offered as he walked up onto the mat.

"Is she dead? Is the nightmare finally over?" Clockblocker added.

"She's fine." Druid offered as Apocalypse Meow walked up to her nuzzling against Druid's bare arm.

"I just knocked her out. by adjusting the blood flow to her brain enough that her body shut down."

"By biting her?" Vista questioned. "Also isn't that dangerous?"

"Sure, if I couldn't switch it back on and repair any damage the second she dropped. I could have also turned a percentage of her mass into an anesthesia agent, but mom doesn't want me doing that until I take the relevant courses in college." Druid sighed." Mom's also gonna be mad I bit her."

"Well well, seems we missed the fight. Who won?" A mocking voice offered .

The Wards looked over as Mouse Protector, Alucard, and Assault walked in, all of them still dressed as Janitors, with Miss Militia behind them.

"Druid did." Aegis offered taking note that Assault sighed and offered Alucard a twenty which the vampire themed cape took with a cackle.

Anyway seems Alucard is now one of the Bay's own capes, no sign of Slayer, but after that ridiculous crap Protectorate Boston pulled i'm not surprised.

But we should get this thread back on topic before the Mods take notice of the derail.

Right sorry. Dude Void i have no idea you you stay so calm some times on here. I always feel like you've been banned but i never see it. Guess it's your tag.

Any way the press conference revealed that Alucard was the newest member of the Protectorate in the Bay.

There was also a new Ward named Druid who is supposed to be some sort of healer, which is cool, not sure what level of it though, but she's supposed to be making the rounds to the area hospitals and vets offices on a schedule rather than go patrolling with the other Wards, so it's gotta be high enough to mean something.

Oh also there's a new director or something, no one cares about that though.

3Chapter 29

The man let out a sigh as he shifted in his leather chair, the faint creak of well oiled springs the only sound in the room save the hum of the computer on his desk.

The video of the press conference was playing on a loop, though the sound was off so he could ignore the banal ramblings of the video's recorder. He picked up a glass off the desk swirling the liquid inside the crystal slightly before he took a sip.

This posed a problem.

Not the new Ward, Druid, her existence was a blessing, any new healer was, particularly if she was as skilled as the report indicated. The lizard tiger was a bit odd however, and spoke that she was far more than a healer. Bio-tinkers were... a complicated subject after all. One could not help to draw the line between one and the dead Nilbog, the idiot Blasto, or the Slaughter House 9's Bonesaw.

Still with Nilbog dead and Ellisburg slowly having been restored as a city, albeit a much smaller, one after excessive cleansing for anything that might have been left behind, Biotinkers were not as feared as something like Masters were.

If this girl Druid could heal as claimed that would go a long way to lessen the stigma. Doubly so if she healed pets. People loved their cats, dogs and such after all.

Perhaps he should see about branching out into veterinary medicine.

A thought for later.

No, Druid was not a problem, he didn't even care if she healed any of the lesser races, after all that was more a way to focus his people than anything he lived by. Blacks and Jews had money same as the whites, who was he to turn it away?

No she was not the issue.

Alucard was worth noting. He was dangerous clearly, and was well known to have a dislike of those of certain doctrines, such as the ones his followers practiced.

That the man took out the Teeth and made an Endbringer wary of him was bad news. Not that the last was public knowledge, though he had been there when Legend had asked him not to come to any more Simurgh fights.

But even that cape was not as much of an issue as he could be. He was still unsure if Alucard really was a man or just a projection that had taken on a life of it's own.

His sources had Slayer quitting the Protectorate in Boston a few years ago and Alucard left with her after a rather interesting lawsuit. His local informants had heard that Slayer was in the city, but was not rejoining the Protectorate.

Perhaps there was a falling out between the two, maybe he should see about trying to recruit her if she popped up, a blonde haired woman of her stature, and power set would be quite welcome, though he expected that was a pipe dream.

No, the problem was that there was a new Director in the chair at PRT. Meadows was clever, but easily buckled to outside pressure or monetary concerns from the city. He knew nothing about this Piggot aside from what little information had leaked that she was a former PRT agent called back from retirement. Rumors of her being in the Ellisburg incident were thus far unconfirmed.

He didn't like unknowns, and that the PRT head brought her in personally was also of worry.

He needed more information.

He pulled open a drawer on his desk, reaching into it, and up he pulled the cell phone mounted in the recess out and flipped it open typing in a number.

It rang twice before it was picked up.

"Yes?"

"Send Victor to scout out the new Director, have Rune assist him in case of any issue. If they are found out, they are to retreat, not engage. Do you understand."

"Yes Kaiser"

The man watched the screen as the video concluded. He sat back in his Laz-e-boy and considered.

The heads of the families stood in the room, silent as the grave as he contemplated.

Many saw him as little more than a raging beast, a monster to fear, while this is true and proper, it was not all.

One did not get to the position he held on fear alone. Fear alone lead to a knife in the back, the desperate trying anything they could to destroy him.

No, fear was a tool to be used, as was greed and loyalty, and he made use of all of that to keep the families in line. But they needed to be content, to be comfortable with how things worked and to know that while they would never overcome him, that he would be content to let them do their own thing and hold their own power for the most part.

He cared not if their methods were legal or not beyond a small set of rules he had imposed, the biggest of which was any one caught dealing with the CUI would be made an example of.

Slowly at that.

As for the current situation, there were only a few things that held his interest. A new director would be a bit of a shake up for a while, but nothing they could not over come.

The Ward was of interest and was immediately put on the do not engage list. Any healer was a boon to the city, and the dragon tiger had amused him.

Alucard was the one of interest. The second para human to make an Endbringer flee on their own.

Lung being the first.

He wanted to fight this man, to test himself against this self proclaimed vampire.

But that could wait.

"No one is to touch the Ward, other wise nothing has changed." Lung spoke to those in the room, receiving nods and bows as all of them fled the as quickly as they could, leaving the Dragon to lounge in his den.

"That woman is interesting."

She spoke with a small smirk on her face sitting back in her chair as the video ended. The thrumming beat of the club below her office filling the void as the announcer went silent.

"How so boss?" the man sitting across the desk from her questioned. Gregor likely already had a good idea, but he liked playing dumb at times. Either he simply wanted to see if their ideas matched up or it was so she would explain for the others present in her office.

Newter didn't so much as sit in a chair as perch on it. His chair was a gaudy high backed thing tucked in the corner of the room and covered when not in use. With his powers she didn't want to test if his sweat would cause problems if it built up on a chair or not. Assigned seating was childish, but the boy hadn't argued and it was cheaper than cleaning it after every meeting.

Grue simply stood by the door. The boy was a little too serious at times, unlike his sister who was a menace even without powers, but she appreciated the professionalism.

"Wonder what that Druid girl looks like under the mask, she had pretty eyes after all." Newter mused going in the wrong direction with his thoughts, but he was a teenager what could you expect.

"You should wonder more if she could help you." Faultline offered. " If she can heal perhaps she could figure out something about your biology. But I wasn't talking about her."

"Director Piggot." Gregor nodded.

"Indeed. What sort of PRT director sends a para human our way rather than trying to recruit them herself, especially a tinker?" Faultline offered. " How is that going by the way?"

"Trainwreck is suspicious, but receptive so far, the discussion of payments has indeed kept his attention. " Gregor offered." He is also a Case 53. The girl however has been more receptive to the idea of the Wards than anything we offered. She seems scared of her own power."

That happens, and it's not a loss to us if we never had her in the first place. Keep on the Tinker though, I doubt the ABB will be after him, the E88 maybe, but that's questionable. The Merchants however would likely love another tinker."

"He doesn't seem interested in them." Gregor offered.

"Good. Keep on him as I said. And I should probably meet with this Director Piggot to see why she sent him our way." Faultline muttered.

"Maybe send a fruit basket?" Newter offered.

"Yeah that would go over well with the press... make sure Regent doesn't do that please." Faultline sighed.

"He might be a troll, but I doubt he'd..." Grue considered. "Yeah I'll stop him."

The tiny room was pitch black, but that hardly mattered after all. A confession booth was supposed to be dark so as no one but the pastor could see your sins. A small wooden door slid open on the wall above the bench he was on, a small patch of light almost blinding against the pitch black darkness.

"Forgive me father, for mine duty is not yet done for you."

"Speak child. Tell me what troubles you."

"Have you seen the news of the day father?"

"I have."

" What are we to do?"

There was a breathy pause.

"The child is of great interest if we can get her, the woman in charge is no one of consequence. The one that is of the greatest concern is the one that causes our Angel to flee. The demon must be destroyed at all cost. For now however simply watch and learn from their actions. I am speaking with others on the best course of action, and we pray to the Angel for guidance on this matter, but it is clear from her actions that this is the work for men, not the divine. Rest well child in that we serve the Lord fully in these trying times."

" Thank you father."

" Hey boss, what are we gonna do about this new director, and the vampire and woodsy chick?"

"Who the fucking shit stained cracker barrel bullshit are you talking about?"

"It was all over the news boss, the capes got new people. Umm that Alucard guy, a new PRT director and some forest kid that can heal and make dragon cats or something."

"What in the gods damned shit fucking cunt pounding ass slapping shit does that have to do with the price of fucking beans in China?"

"Umm what?"

"Nothing! That's what the fuck it means. Who gives a shit if they got more people, they're the same slow ass bitches we've been running rings around for fucking years." Skidmark shouted. "Some new bitch in charge after the previous old bag keeled over, who cares, same fucking rules different cock sucking face. Vampire ass hat will get hooked on our supply he bites any of us, and unless that little cunt is making that fucking cat thing of hers shit drugs I don't give a fuck. We run this fucking town and no new blood is gonna change that shit at all."

3Chapter 30

Director Emily Piggot looked over the notes for her upcoming meetings. All the Wards were all going to be here today and would be sent in to speak with her after five, Aegis and Gallant would be the first she would speak with, then they would be sent out on patrol. Vista would be teaching Druid the Console while she spoke with Shadow Stalker then Stalker would be sent to take over to finish out her punishment for something she did before Emily took over. She'd have a spot of dinner with Druid before speaking with Clockblocker and finally Vista.

It had only been two days, but the investigation into Rachael Lindt was going well, they had already uncovered at lest three clear signs of corruption in her charges, though they were stalling out a little on the CPS and Police investigations into the caretakers actual death as all the documents seemed to have been misplaced regarding the girl in anything other than the arrest warrant given at an absentee trial that was held.

Interestingly there was lead on what had happened as well as the court documents from the Animal Control services in the area, as they evidently didn't get the memo to lose all the information like the other departments had.

Several of her agents were looking to find a tutor for the girl and a trainer who understood her issues and could work with her. She needed to be at a certain level of education and comfort with other people before she would allow her to start working with the PRT K-9 unit.

PR was already talking about her toy line, one that involved plastic monsters that you could open to reveal cute little dog miniatures inside. They were going to start selling them as blind boxes as soon as the name Hellhound was forgotten, and Rachel would stop referring to herself as Bitch. They had already decided on her new marketable name.

Baskerville.

Emily wasn't sure she liked the girl being associated with a hound trained to murder people while disguised as a ghost, but the testing group had all connected it more with Sherlock Holmes rather than the murderer.

Emily was almost impressed how fast the PR department moved, she had only had the 'talk' with Rachael two days ago.

The other thing of note was one Emily Clark, or as the PR department had already brought up as a name 'Spitfire'.

Currently the disheveled looking girl was sitting in front of her desk with her appointed Guardian, the PRT liaison with the local Social Services, Berrall Jones, who was also her caseworker now, and the PRT lawyer who had the most experience with dealing with under aged issues, Greg Abbot.

The two of them were talking over the girls head about what to do with the girl and the legalese of everything. Emily simply sat there listening into them and watching the girl get more and more nervous as things went on. This had to stop before the girl panicked like it looked she was going to .

"Both of you shut up a moment." Director Piggot snapped as she focused her attention fully on the other Emily. "Miss Clark has any one asked you what YOU want to do yet?"

"Director we have already.."

"Zip it." Director Piggot snapped at the liaison before her attention turned back to the girl.

"I don't know." Emily muttered.

"You are being presented an opportunity here Miss Clark. But you are not being held, detained or forced to do anything you do not want to do." Director Piggot offered. "Right now at your request we are withholding information on your whereabouts from your parents, you are only fifteen however and we cannot do this forever."

"Youth Guard will get involved the moment they hear anything." Berrall offered." Right now they are focused on Lindt and have missed Miss Clark in the shuffle of paperwork."

"And what do you think their reaction will be?" Director Piggot asked.

"Same as with a number of other similar cases. They want the child to be with the parents, regardless of what the child wants because they think anyone underage is too young to make their own decisions. While they are sometimes right, they are often very, and tragically, wrong." the woman concluded.

"Everything else we can string along for years." Abbot offered. " But given how the Youth Guard has lobbied they have more say over what any child with powers can do than even the CPS..."

"I don't want to go back there..." she offered in a low voice.

"Do we have an abuse claim?" Director Piggot asked.

"We have a possible Trigger event claim." the liaison offered making Piggot suck in a sharp breath between her teeth.

"Explain."

"Miss Clark here refuses to go into any detail, but with what she has told us she left soon after she triggered and her refusal to go back leads to some assumptions." Jones offered the woman looking to the young girl as she partial shrunk in on herself.

"Well unless Miss Clark here is willing to talk, no one is going to ask her anything. Miss Clark i would suggest very much that you avail yourself of a therapist when you are able, no matter what you choose to do. I am however quite glad you are willing to let us help you as best we can. "Director Piggot picked up a folder. "The medical testing from our staff and Druid have shown a few things of note, but nothing that could be considered incriminating to any one."

"Druid's testimony wouldn't be accepted for the hairline fractures, and any remotely decent lawyer could suggest those were caused during her months away from home even if some one did accept it." Abbot sighed.

"Alright. Well Emily. until you decide what you want to do we can only stall and continue with our own goals. I have you scheduled for power testing on Sunday, while you are free to leave at any time I would like you to remain in the building or at least only go out with an escort. If you would like Saturday I can arraign someone to go with you to purchase clothing or anything else you want. The reward we gave you for taking care of the dogs isn't much, but it should be enough for a few personal items, and we can pull from procurement for anything necessary like clothing . Is that alright?" Director Piggot asked.

The girl nodded lightly and Piggot sat back in her chair as the others started the discussion again. She would see if she could get Dennis and perhaps Amy to be the girls escort with a few agents hanging back and letting the three do their own thing. Amy would be sympathetic and Dennis would play the fool and keep her distracted. Hopefully they could get the girl to open up a bit more and solve this before outside pressure kicked in. She also needed to speak with Dragon at some point. The only pyro kinetic she could think of that might be able to show the girl the ropes properly was Charbroil, a member of the Guild.

And hopefully the girl would allow them to help, if she decided to run again there was no telling what might happen to her.

3Chapter 31

"So to summarize, once things are settled you will be doing a one month rotation with a Protectorate member. Armsmaster is currently off rotation due to a project that he is working on however. The rotation was meant to start the first of December but between getting everyone settled and everything that's happened this week, plus the holidays we have opted to set it back to the first of the year. You will be paired with Alucard for the first month. Given you are the current leader of the Wards I expect you to show him everything local, and he has been instructed to show you how he has done things up to this point from his time in Chicago and Boston." Director Emily Piggot explained, "Do you have any questions?"

"Yes ma'am" Aegis offered. "Is this a punishment detail?"

Emily blinked, then smirked." No, despite what it may feel like. Consider it more of a challenge to your temper and ability to deal with weird or excessive situations. Honestly if he hasn't fought three or four Nazis or villain capes by the time your mentor ship with him is over I will be surprised. I can guarantee he won't allow you to come to harm if someone like Hookwolf shows up, but I can also tell you that he will engage Hookwolf, even if it's just to read him 'Pokey Puppy'"

"Ahh gods." Aegis frowned.

"Look on the bright side, February will have you with Moon Dog, then Battery in March. That's two months before you are with Mouse Protector."

"Do I have enough sick time accrued to call out for all of April?" Aegis sighed.

"I don't even have that much PTO." Emily chuckled. "At any rate that should be all from me, did you have anything you wanted to bring up? Any issues or things of note you want to point out? While I try to have an open door policy, things can get hectic and I might not be able to spare the time to listen to anything minor later. Also if you don't mind I'd like to hear your opinions of the other Wards and Protectorate members. Do note that none of this is going to be on any file, I am simply trying to get a bit of a profile of everyone from those that work with them."

"Of course Ma'am. I haven't had much contact with the Protectorate members aside from occasional events or shared patrols. I mean aside from Mouse Protector and Miss Militia. I don't really have anything with the other Wards either, at least not that have not been voiced before about Shadow Stalker's attitude and disregard for orders. There is Vista, I feel she spends far too much time here and not enough at home. Clock has been doing that a bit lately too, I'm not sure if it's because of Vista or some other reason. I don't know enough about Druid to say anything about her, though she seems to have a bit of trouble following orders."

"Understood, I will pass that along to Renik as he is the one more over Druid's side of the Wards than anything else. Granted there are four people between the Wards and myself in the chain of command, but I've mostly been ignoring them for the past few days."

"What do you mean by Druid's side of the Wards?" Aegis asked.

"Druid is more of a support cape thus far, she is not set up for any patrols as her time will be spent touring various hospitals and vets offices with a PRT patrol to utilize her healing abilities. The PR department is already looking to make an entirely new division for her involved in Search and Rescue operations and all that is under Renik. Once it is all set up we'll be rotating the Wards and some Protectorate members into it to see if their powers make a good fit. Hopefully if it works out as planned most of the gangs in town will consider that branch off limits like they do the EMS. Not counting the Merchants of course. I have some say over parts of it, but due to certain reasons, I am not allowed to have much say in what Druid does for the PRT and Protectorate."

"I understand Ma'am."

"Alright don't be afraid to ask questions, within reason, if you need to understand something better. You're the team lead of the Wards right now, I would rather you know what's going on than be kept in the dark about everything simply due to your age." Emily offered.

"Err might I ask what you mean by 'right now'?" Aegis questioned quickly.

"My goal along with everything else is to also give all the Wards a chance to lead the team. Yes even Vista, Clockblocker, and Shadow Stalker. This is nothing against your abilities, but I want to see what everyone will do in certain situations and positions. The Wards program exists to teach you about being a member of the Protectorate. From what I have seen there has been very little training in regards to that and far too much PR fluff. Hence why all these changes are happening now. There will still be Wards PR patrols, but the mentor program will take priority like it does in Boston and Chicago. The only thing I am doing is making sure ENE is up to the same standards as Boston and New York. Meadows allowed quite a bit to slip here and I'm simply shoring that back up. Once we are back up to snuff we might have other Wards from different locations rotate in for a summer and vice versa to ensure that the Wards will have experience with differing locations and methods to prepare everyone for the possibility of being transfused or moving to another location if they choose to enter the Protectorate fully when they come of age."

"You're actually planning to start to follow the pamphlet that was given to our parents when we joined." Aegis stated.

Emily smiled this kid was rather sharp." Among other things. There will be mandatory therapy sessions as well I've seen what it can do for certain capes and I've been in a few sessions myself. In the stack of papers I've given you for your parents to sign there is more information on it, if you already have a therapist or your parents want to opt out of it for whatever reason they can. I would recommend they do not. Also in the packet is the permission for a Firearms safety class, though to be fair even if they don't sign that one you will be taking the class as part of your yearly training classes, on top of the usual fire, chemical, Medical, console, NDA, and paperwork training, you will have a Descalation, and Emergency management training on top of the firearms training. This paper work is mostly to let your parents know of the changes. Until summer break the extra classes might be a bit tough, but we are working on arranging a late 'free period' with Arcadia. The main premise of that is that the class is for those students who have after school jobs so they still have time for their homework and to rest a bit before work. Mostly that's to cover Wards needing to leave, with this program a number of students will be leaving at the same time as a smoke screen, but it can't be implemented until the next school year."

"That's a lot to take in." Aegis hummed.

"Well none of it will start until January so you can enjoy your holidays without worrying about trying to deal with all the changes. The basic patrol schedules will remain the same until then with only a few small changes here and there." Emily offered. "If you have any other questions for me, feel free to send them up the chain and I'll get to them when I can, for the moment you should probably get ready for your patrol, and send Gallant in would you?"

"Yes. Ma'am."

3Chapter 32

"So to summarize, once things are settled you will be doing a one month rotation with a Protectorate member. Armsmaster is currently off rotation due to a project that he is working on however. The rotation was meant to start the first of December, but between getting everyone settled and everything that's happened this week, plus the holidays we have opted to set it back to the first of the year. You how ever will be having a split rotation, the first month you will be paired with Renik's side of the Wards focusing on search and rescue training over the standard Protectorate training."

"May I ask why director?" Gallant asked standing in the Director's office simply due to none of the chairs looked rated for his armor's weight.

The office was rather nice, if oddly designed with things placed in front of windows and most of the shutters down, a rather large mirror covered the wall behind the director's desk, though he could see the logic in that as one of her workstations faced the wall and it allowed her to glance up and see if any one came in.

"To put it simply Gallant, it's because I think your powers can be useful in a search in rescue setting. Your recorded range for sensing emotions is on our record around fifty or sixty feet, while that doesn't seem much it would be more than enough to find some one buried in rubble or in an avalanche. Add in your 'Master ' abilities and you could easily be brought in to calm some one who is panicking. We have a team that is being developed for search and rescue rather than going out and punching bad guys. Personally I feel that making the public think you are a tinker is a bad idea. Nothing good comes from people believing you are something you are not. " Emily smirked." Just ask Alucard, they classified him as a projection for years and he is still slowly receiving a lot of back pay from that, not to mention all the missed product licensing. Boston is going to have a very tight budget for a while."

Gallant nodded feeling a level of smug amusement from the Director he didn't expect.

"In any event I'm sure your parents will have no issue with the gun safety classes or the retesting to see if your abilities can be made to work in different ways that initially reported. This part of the Wards will be under Deputy Director Reink rather than me as it's primary creation is because of Druid coming here. While Druid can fight, her main abilities are too valuable to risk on some idiot with a gun getting lucky in a altercation. Most parahumans do seem to have abilities focused on combat, Miss Militia and Mouse Protector especially, others like thinkers and tinkers can go either way. Much like your abilities. This doesn't mean we're going to dump you in blind, I'm pressing hard to get a therapist out here full time. If this all works out we'll see if you can receive some instruction from them, if possible we may also add some college level courses for you."

"I see." Gallant hummed. "Though I will say I am already taking some basic psychology courses that were set up by Director Meadows."

"Alright then. Nice to see the woman was on the same page in some things." Director Piggot nodded. "Did you have any other questions?"

"No Ma'am."

"Alright , the last thing is Iwould like your opinions of the Protectorate and Wards you work with. Don't worry about being specific. I am trying to get to know them more from other peoples eyes, and none of this is on record."

" I don't really have any problems with any of them." Gallant hesitated." Except perhaps Vista."

"Oh?"

"It's not so much a problem, but I can feel she has a crush on me." Gallant admitted.

"Ahhhh I see. How are you dealing with that?" Emily asked.

"Trying to ignore it and hope she moves on." Gallant shrugged.

"Hmm. Well I have no idea if that is a good plan or not. When we get the therapist in here ask them. While I can read people fairly well from my training, anything more complex is out of my wheel house."

"Understood."

"What about the others? Emotional output or things that you can tell?"

"Pretty normal I suppose. I've not had much of an encounter with Druid yet. Clockblocker seems to always be upset over something lately, and Shadow Stalker is angry.. all the time."

"I figured the last one, what about the Protectorate you work with?"

"Much the same as any one else. their emotions depend on the situation they are in. Except Mouse Protector. I try not to read Mouse Protector."

"Why is that?"

"Her emotional state is pretty much everywhere all the time. It's never constant." Gallant offered. "I can't really explain it."

"I get the meaning, though if you have issue with Mouse Protector, I would suggest not looking at Alucard too much."

"Oh?"

"He's... something..." Emily sighed.

"Ahh." Gallant nodded.

Wards room

"So you think we'll be getting a new ward then?" Vista asked.

"Maybe. The girls a little skittish and mom says there's some legal crap tied into everything involving her parents, but it's possible. She might also head further north to the Guild. " Druid answered." It's all politics and red tape at that level."

"Ugh. Better the director than me." Vista muttered. "I hate red tape."

The pair of them along with Apocalypse Meow looked up as the door slid open and Shadow Stalker stormed in. She stopped a moment glaring at Druid stretched out on the couch, and Vista stretched out on the back of Apocalypse Meow who was laying on one of the other couches in the room.

"I want a rematch." Shadow Stalker declared.

"Okay." Druid shrugged from where she was. "I suggest you stick to unpowered fighting this time, you actually have a chance like that."

"What!? You ain't that hot of shit." Shadow Stalker snarled.

"She's a speculated Striker 12, Tinker 8, Trump 3, Thinker 3 and Master 2." Vista pointed out. "You're at best a breaker 3 stranger 2 and a mover 1 or 2."

Both of the other girls stared at Vista.

"What? I didn't get to the top of the powered spar leader board by not doing my homework on the rest of you. My power is a Shaker' Yes', but that doesn't mean I'm lazy."

"I thought you were a Shaker 9?" Druid asked.

"That's what I want them to think." Vista grinned.

"Anyway, you, me, now." Shadow Stalker growled.

"No can do. Soon as Gallants done talking to the director you're up for it." Vista explained." Then you're back on counsel duty for the old man Jenkins thing while I show Druid around the rest of the building. Assault's supposed to take us out to the HQ tonight so I can show her around there after we talk to the Director."

"Pfft, whatever." Shadow Stalker grumbled." Don't get comfortable with your win."

Druid shrugged.

Apocalypse Meow suddenly lifted her head looking down at the floor below the big TV in the room. She offered an odd chirping growl as she stared at the spot her tufted ears perked up high.

"Here comes Alucard." Druid sighed

The crimson coated Vampire cape rose from the floor in a rush, a wide grin on his face as his shouted.

"Hey You Kids Wanna See A Dead Body!?" Alucard ranted.

No." Druid sighed.

"Yes." Shadow Stalker snapped.

"What, another one?" Vista muttered.

Everyone in the room looked at Vista including Apocalypse Meow who had to turn her head almost fully around to do so.

"Oh you are gonna be fun." Alucard grinned before gesturing to Shadow Stalker. "Any way short thin and broody, boss lady wants to talk to you so get up there. Chop Chop!"

3Chapter 33

"So to summarize, once things are settled you will be doing a one month rotation with a Protectorate member. Armsmaster is currently off rotation due to a project that he is working on however. The rotation was meant to start the first of December, but between getting everyone settled and everything that's happened this week, plus the holidays we have opted to set it back to the first of the year. You how ever will be having a split rotation, the first month you will be paired with Renik's side of the Wards focusing on search and rescue training over the standard Protectorate training."

Shadow Stalker let out a sound that seemed like a dismissive huff.

"Something wrong?" Emily raised an eyebrow. The girl had been mostly silent since she was brought in by Alucard, though Emily was once again needing to use the deescalation training to read the girl though the full face mask she wore. Thankfully the brat wasn't that hard to understand.

"Search and rescue training, please, like we're gonna need that in this place. If we have to search for someone they're already sold off as a slave or dead, if we have to rescue anyone it's because they're stupid or too weak to fight back on their own and they're better off dead."

"Never the less. It is your job." Emily offered back, thinking the carrot wasn't working well with this one." Furthermore, you will be assigned to Mouse Protector for the first month as well."

The girl flinched at that, score a point for the stick.

"Now then since the situation has been explained to you, you will need your parents signatures for the new training as well as the gun safety course. Yes, I am quite aware you have gone through it before to be able to continue using your crossbow, but this is a yearly course that for some reason was glossed over for the last few years. The course will renew in February from this point on in ENE for everyone baring unforeseen circumstances." Emily continued flowing into the next bit she expected resistance. "Now the second part of this is as of December first you will be moving to Arcadia."

"WHAT?!" Shadow Stalker jerked forward her hands slapping to the desk. "That's bullshit."

"No it isn't. Every other Ward save you is in Arcadia. You were initially supposed to be assigned there not long after you first were brought in on probation, but it seemed the event was always pushed back, the papers lost or not even sent. I've already had it fast tracked. You'll need to keep your grades up and the next track team sign up is in the spring if you wish to continue doing that once you get to Arcadia."

"The Fuck am I going to Arcadia, I'm perfectly fine in Winslow." Shadow Stalker snapped.

"The fuck, you ARE going to Arcadia." Emily snapped back. "There is literally no reason we have to have two sets of handlers for the Wards. The ones assigned to you could be doing other things given the state of our manpower here. And I am aware of the old adage all your eggs in one basket, but I am also aware that it is much easier to watch one place than two, particularly when the second one is practically a gang recruitment school. Yes, I have looked into Winslow, and I am NOT impressed. You will have until thanksgiving to say goodbye to any friends you have in Winslow, though it is not as if you can't see them on your days off, or suggest they apply for Arcadia themselves. A group transfer to Arcadia from Winslow would help hide your identity further."

"Is this because I picked a fight with your daughter?" Shadow Stalker snarled.

"No Hess, it is not. In fact that little fight is a point in your favor, of which you have very, very few. Druid enjoyed the spar and her only complaint was that it ended so quickly. Fighting any one at her level in her age group has been a limiting factor in her training. That you seem to be willing to do so will likely help both of you improve. From what I saw on the security recordings you are not unskilled yourself." Emily offered. "Though I would suggest you schedule the sessions as the gym is a bit open for cape training."

"Pfft whatever." Shadow Stalker huffed dropping back down into her chair.

Emily rolled her eyes, holy shit did she dodge a bullet with her own daughter. Amy's rebellious phase lasted a couple of months where she got into the Goth/Emo scene. That ended the moment Alucard started copying her style and did his makeup much better than Amy did.

Granted Emily could have done without seeing Alucard even more Hot Topic'd up. It became even worse as he went on Martha Stewart like that and explained he was supporting a friends daughters choices which got both Martha and Snoop into a short Goth/Emo phase as well.

Snoop Dog looked pretty good as a goth.

Martha's ratings skyrocketed that month, though Amy gave it up as Martha made it 'too main stream'.

Martha was currently wearing a copy of Alucard's new costume. As Alucard had gifted one to her and to Snoop Dog, who wore it for at least two of his concerts.

The PR team was frothing at the mouth.

"Just out of curiosity Shadow Stalker. I have heard your tendency to go Animal planet on others..."

"Ugh I bet the rat called it that."

"Probably. Though I would like an explanation for it." Emily asked trying to play the calm one here despite wanting to choke the girl.

"It's simple. There's predators and prey. The ones who do things, and the ones who just let it happen, weak willed shits who are just a drain on everything. Most of them aren't even worth categorizing." Shadow Stalker grumbled. "The whole things just a mental exercise I started when I was bored."

"I see. Dare I ask what you might have ranked Druid as?"

"Eastern Brown." Stalker shrugged.

"A snake?"

"She bit me to beat me."

"Fair enough." Emily shrugged. The carrot seemed to be working again to get the girl to talk. "Any way this packet has everything your parents need to deal with. The only thing I have left is I'm trying to get everyone's opinion of who they work with, so what do you think about the other Wards?"

"Useless little shits for the most part. The Rats practically useless, the Eagles a pompous shit, Norwegian Blue is more concerned with how his fucking plumage looks than doing anything. The bunnies dangerous and could be a hell of a lot better if she didn't hold herself back, and I met Druid yesterday so whatever."

" I see, and the Protectorate?"

"The Glory hog Lion, the Hyena and his cougar wife, the neutered cat, the Gun Bunny and the rabid badger." Stalker grumbled." They do what they are supposed to, but they could do more."

"It's rather sad I know exactly who you are talking about with those descriptions. Though not why with all of them." Emily offered.

" Ehh whatever it's how I see it. An office drone like you wouldn't get it any way." Shadow Stalker huffed dismissively.

"Office drone?"

"Maybe queen bee, I mean you tell everyone else what to do, but you're useless and pampered up here. Not like you even know what we deal with outside of what's reported. Particularly with this school transfer shit. Shows you don't know a damn thing."

Fuck the carrot and the stick, she was breaking out the spiked club.

Emily slapped her hands on her desk surging to her feet in a move that forced Shadow Stalker to jerk back out of the chair herself as if ready for a fight only to freeze as Emily yanked off her dress jacket and started undoing her shirt.

"Wait what the fuck are you doing you pervert!"

"Shut the hell up Hess. You are already on ice so thin a minnow farting will crack it from the heaps of bullshit you've done. So shut up and listen!"

Emily yanked off her shirt leaving her in just her black bra when she pointed to her arm and the scar running across it.

"Serial killer ambushed me while I was trying to sleep, I beat her into a coma with a curtain rod."

She pointed to her other arm higher on the bicep with an old scar that looked like a circular puncture that was dragged up to her shoulder.

"Shiv wound, made out of a steel pipe, early training, some fucker thought the short blonde would be an easy target to mug, I broke his arm in six places and dislocated his shoulder so bad they had to do surgery to fix it." Emily snapped before tilting her head and showing a line along the side of her neck just under her jaw. "Gunshot wound, just a graze, but this came from a sniper duel that happened in my first mission with the PRT against a group of the Church of the Angel in Atlanta. I'm still here, they are not."

Stalker blinked as the director rolled up her pant leg showing a ring scar around her leg.

"Bear trap going after a Fallen enclave in New Mexico. I then spent the next three hours hobbling around helping my team with a cracked bone and large chunks of flesh missing, this wound went septic and they almost had to cut my leg off." Emily continued pulling her leg off the desk turning around and pointing to what looked like a large puncture on her back." I was thrown out of a three story window and landed on the corner of a steel dumpster. I tracked the bastard down who did that and shot him in the fucking head."

Emily pointed to her side where the largest scar was on the woman, they were all faded but still very noticeable.

"This one is where a fucking bio tinker's monster ripped out one of my kidneys and a few feet of my lower intestine. I kept going for HOURS after that one and not only survived but blew the bio tinkers head off." Emily growled before slamming her hands on the desk again.

"I have lived through shit you wouldn't believe, I have lost more blood and flesh in my time in the PRT than you have in your entire fucking body.

The only reason I still look good is because Druid healed most of them but I still remember the pain. You are not the biggest predator in the Protectorate or PRT Hess.

You are not the baddest mother fucker in the Wards. You aren't even the most dangerous fucking thing in this damn room.

You have some twisted sort of potential Hess, I've seen that, but this bullshit lone wolf garbage you have going on stops now.

Wanna know the thing about lone wolves? They are lone because either they fucked up and were cast out of a pack, or are diseased and were cast out of a pack.

This place, the PRT and Protectorate? It's the last fucking pack that will tolerate you.

You fuck up, you refuse to follow orders, or keep playing little miss thing like your hot shit and you're done. I will bury you and then forget I ever met you.

With how you have acted so far there is no one who will even care that you are gone.

Meadows may have had to tolerate your shit because of the higher ups, but the only person I have to answer to begged me to come here to the ENE and if I say you go she'll just ask me 'how far'.

Do you understand me Hess? I promise you that if you fuck up again, one more time from this point, you will simply wake up one day and be in parahuman juvi, or Alexandria's Strawberry Cheer Girls training camp. And even I don't want you sent there."

Emily grabbed her shirt putting it back on as she glared at Shadow Stalker the girl not having moved. Emily spared a glance up and noticed the ceiling and likely much of the wall behind her was covered in red eyes and fanged maws.

"Thank you for the background Alucard but I didn't need the help to deal with the pup here." Emily snapped noting the effect was fading away.

"Hess you are transferring schools, December first will have you in Arcadia. You will behave like a proper human and not a wild beast when out of uniform, in uniform you will carry yourself with the professionalism of a proper hero.

This is the only warning I will give you. Do not forget that you are STILL on probation. You think to run I will find you, you think to try and fight, I will end you.

You will tow the fucking line and not fuck up and in a year or two the probation will be reviewed and you might actually have relaxed rules like the rest of the Wards and Protectorate. If we think you can handle it. " Emily finished her eyes narrowing again as she dropped back into her chair.

"Stop being such a bitch to everyone, that's my job, and I've already knocked the shit out of the only other bitch in ENE. I will do the exact same to you if I have to. But for now I'm content to see if you can learn, you need to be better, or else. You are dismissed Shadow Stalker."
