Chapter 10 - Ch 10: Weiss Vs Monster Beast

As the villagers entered the vicinity of the Souran Castle, they were able to feel the ferocity of the monster beast on their skin. They were also able to hear the sound of a grand battle taking place.

Robin did not take the villagers to the main battlefield and instead took them to a tower like structure just a bit away from where the battle was happening.

This was the place where the bows and arrows were also kept. From this high position, the villagers would be able to get a clear view of the battlefield and would be able to shot the arrows easily too.

"Take the bows and quickly get used to them. Also take a look outside to properly lock onto the target. There should be no mistakes later on." Butler Robin said.

As the villagers looked out of the tower, the scene of the battle happening outside appeared before their eyes for the first time. They were also able to see the monster responsible for all this trouble.

It was a large 5 meter tall bear covered in a red fur. It had four frontal limbs instead of usual two and extremely terrifying looking fangs and claws.

This bear's body was also radiating an intense red light indicating that it was truly a monster beast and not just a regular one.

Seeing this beast, most of the villagers started to shake in fear. That was because even they had heard rumours about this species of monster beast called the "Four Clawed Fiery Bear".

They were one of the strongest monster beasts that could be found in this region. There were several stories about how even a whole city had been destroyed by this beast in the past.

And the person fighting this beast was a sword wielding knight covered head to toe in a black robe. Unlike most other knights, he was not wearing any armours.

As that person was moving around very quickly while dodging the attacks of the bear, it was hard to properly judge how tall this person was. But it was clear that the black swordmaster could not be more than 150 centimetres tall.

Normally knights were known to be large in structure, so the villagers were a little surprised by this.

"Wow, amazing."

"How quick. Incredible."

But soon they started to cheer out loud as at that exact moment, they saw the black swordmaster landing a sucessful blow and creating a wound on the right leg of the Fiery Bear.

Robin immediately handed bows to all the people who had some experience with it and asked them to support the black swordmaster.

As most of the villagers needed to hunt in the winter for food, quite a few of them were good with bows and arrows.

Just like that, the villagers also become a part of this legendary battle between the dashing swordmaster and the fierce bear monster beast.

...

As the villagers were getting ready to shoot the arrows, a few of them with sharp eyesight suddenly noticed a few corpses in a broken part of the castle.

One of the corpse among them stood out as that corpse belonged to none other than the lord of this territory himself. Just a few meters away from him, the corpse of the young master and the lady baroness was also seen.

All those corpses were in a terrible condition. It was clear that the beast had tore them apart with his powerful fangs and claws. Fortunately, their faces were still intact so their corpses were at least recognisable.

This scene proved that the butler Robin was not lying and it shook a few of the villagers again even though this was not a new news to them.

But still, they soon got rid of their worry that they were feeling as currently they first needed to take care of the monster beast. Or their future condition would be worse the baron's.

And as they did not see the body of the little mistress among the corpse, they could still hope that the Souran territory would not change hands. Even though it was more likely that the little mistress was already inside the belly of the bear.

...

As the large bear roared and slammed it's large claws toward her, Weiss nimbly dodged it and landed a sword thrust on that claw.

But as that wound was not very deep for the large bear, it did not take too much damage and only become more angry because of the pain.

For the current Weiss, this Four Clawed Fiery Bear was actually not an easy opponent. With its large body, monstrous strength, multiple limbs and beastly ferocity, this bear was more than strong enough to match even a mid level official knight.

But still, she ended up choosing this beast as her opponent for this show. There were several reasons behind this decision.

Firstly, only a beast this strong could kill the baron Patrick Souran so convincingly in a very short period of time.

And secondly, by defeating this powerful beast, Weiss would be able to send a clear message to the neighbouring nobles that the black swordmaster was as strong as a mid level knight.

All the neighbouring lords of the Souran territory were low level knights. So they would not dare to be too brave in an area where a strong mid level knight was staying. This would solve a lot of noble related problems for Weiss.

Most importantly even though this beast was definitely strong, Weiss was still very confident in defeating it.

Weiss had known about this beast for quite some time and had kept an eye on it. If someday the count's men tried to forcefully take her away, she had plans to lure this beast to them in order to make her escape.

But now that she was going to be the next lord, keeping such a powerful and ferocious beast close to her territory was just dangerous. So Weiss was also using this opportunity to eliminate this dangerous problem.

She had lured it to the castle by using the corpses of the soldiers that she had killed last knight. This bear had eaten quite a few of those dead soldiers and Weiss had stuffed all of those dead bodies with a powerful poison.

Not only that but the sword that Weiss was using was also coated with a different powerful poison that did not interfere with the other one.

So while the wounds left behind by her on the bear was not going to deal much damage to it, the poison was making sure that slowly but surely, even this powerful monster bear was heading toward its demise.

As Wiess continued to dodge the beast while hurting it every now and then, soon she started to see the effect of her poison. The large beast had gotten a fair bit slower than it's peak strength.

At that moment, a volley of arrows came toward the Four Clawed Fiery Bear from a tall tower nearby. Most of the arrows missed their marks completely and the few that managed to reach the beast was not able to even penetrate the fur of the bear.

So the amount of damage that this attack dealt was basically zero. But still, the bear got distracted by the sudden arrival of this new enemy.

Weiss did not miss this slight opportunity and immediately ran toward the bear. Then she jumped up and use the claws of the bear as footholds to reach its shoulder.
