"I understand."
Rimuru immediately grasped Shirou Emiya's intent.
If the magic controlling Milim couldn't be undone, then there was only one solution.
Eliminate the one who cast it.
That meant Demon Lord Clayman.
With that conclusion reached, Rimuru quickly pulled away from Milim, intending to summon Veldora.
However, because he had been communicating with Shirou just moments earlier, his attention had slipped-only slightly.
That tiny lapse was enough.
In that fraction of a second, Milim seized the opening.
She tore through Rimuru's defense and closed the distance instantly. A fist wrapped in violent storm energy came crashing toward him.
"Oh no-she broke through!"
"If I take that head-on, I'll be shattered."
"What do I do-"
Rimuru's thoughts raced as the fist filled his vision.
There was no time to evade.
Just as he was about to brace himself, a figure suddenly appeared in front of him.
The next moment-
Milim's punch landed squarely on the newcomer's face.
"Ow! Why did you suddenly hit me?!"
"And right in the face too!"
The person crouching on the ground, rubbing his head, was none other than the Storm Dragon himself.
Veldora.
"Huh? Veldora?"
Rimuru stared in disbelief.
"Why are you here?!"
He was genuinely surprised.
Rimuru had planned to summon Veldora, but he hadn't had the chance yet. Milim's attack had come too fast.
Which meant-
Veldora had appeared on his own.
In truth, Rimuru's skill, Lord of Storms, was never a one-way summon.
Their connection went both ways.
They shared a mutual naming bond. Even if Rimuru's naming hadn't altered Veldora's existence, their souls were still linked.
Through the authority of Lord of Storms, Veldora could manifest at Rimuru's side whenever he wished.
"Ugh... I'm really unlucky today."
Even for Veldora, taking a direct punch from Milim did not feel good.
"Veldora."
Shirou Emiya, who had been observing from the side, hurried over.
"Why are you here all of a sudden?"
"Did something happen in the city?"
"The city? Nothing happened there."
Veldora waved it off casually.
"If anything, the defenses are even tighter than before."
"Diablo came back, after all."
"With him around, the city's security is solid."
"Diablo... returned?"
Rimuru's eyes widened.
He was genuinely shocked.
The mission Rimuru had assigned to Diablo was no small matter.
Diablo had taken Youm and the others, along with the captured King of the Falmuth Kingdom and the Archbishop of the Western Holy Church, back to Falmuth.
Using those captives, Diablo was to help Youm-now hailed as a hero-ascend the throne.
The goal was to place Falmuth under control and extend the influence of the Jura Tempest Federation into the human world.
It was the foundation of Rimuru's vision of coexistence.
A task like that should have taken months.
Yet-
If Rimuru remembered correctly, Diablo had only been gone for a few days.
That was absurdly fast.
"I knew Diablo was capable..."
"But I didn't expect this much."
"With a subordinate like that," Shirou said lightly, "you should be proud."
"Yeah..."
Rimuru shook his head hard, clearing away his lingering thoughts.
Then he looked back at Veldora.
"Then why are you here?"
"Speaking of that-Rimuru, you've really gone too far."
Veldora raised his hand.
A manga volume appeared.
Rimuru instantly understood.
But he still pretended not to.
"What do you mean?"
"What do I mean?! Don't play dumb!"
"You did this on purpose, didn't you?!"
"Why didn't you give me the next volume?!"
"You're deliberately messing with me!"
Veldora's indignation was obvious.
Rimuru nodded expressionlessly.
Yes.
It was intentional.
Although the two were close now, Rimuru had never forgotten one thing.
Veldora was dangerous.
A disaster-class being with the personality of a problematic child.
If left unchecked, he would inevitably cause trouble-and Rimuru would be the one cleaning it up.
Fortunately, while sealed inside Rimuru, Veldora had developed a shut-in, chuunibyou tendency.
By controlling the release of manga and anime sequels, Rimuru had found a way to keep him in line.
A leash.
Seeing Rimuru openly admit it, Veldora's anger flared.
But before he could explode, Rimuru spoke again.
"This isn't important right now."
"I have something I need you to do."
"Not important?!"
"You say it's not important that you messed with me?!"
Veldora's voice rose sharply.
"If you do this," Rimuru said calmly, "I'll give you the sequel."
"...!"
"Then what are we waiting for?!"
Veldora instantly changed expression.
"Tell me!"
"What do you want me to do?!"
He struck a pose, radiating enthusiasm.
"Pfft."
Shirou couldn't help but laugh.
"Rimuru, you've really become evil."
"Oh, come on," Rimuru replied casually through Thought Communication.
"I learned it from you, didn't I?"
Under Shirou Emiya's influence, Rimuru had indeed grown more cunning.
"I need you to fight Milim."
Rimuru's expression turned serious.
"But be careful."
"Don't hurt her."
Veldora was not Rimuru.
His attacks were on an entirely different level.
When Rimuru fought Milim, there was no concern about Milim being injured.
If Veldora fought her, that was another matter entirely.
Shirou shook his head slightly.
He knew the truth.
Milim's strength was far beyond Veldora's.
Against her, Veldora would be lucky if he didn't get hurt.
"Oh, Milim?"
Veldora looked over, suddenly interested.
"She's my elder brother's only daughter, you know."
"This is actually my first time meeting her."
"Don't worry."
He grinned.
"Leave it to me."
