Heretic Gods.
Also known as Heretic Gods.
They are gods who have broken free from their own myths and now wander the earth.
Whether good or evil no longer matters.
The moment a Heretic God appears in the human world, disaster follows.
Their very existence is calamity.
When a storm god descends, violent storms erupt wherever they remain. Winds tear through cities. Rain crushes the land. Everything in the surrounding area is destroyed without discrimination.
When a sun god appears, temperatures skyrocket. Rivers evaporate. The ground cracks open. It is as if the sun itself has descended upon the earth.
And when a god of fertility walks the land, the people within that region lose restraint. Reproductive urges spiral out of control. Society collapses under its own instincts.
Because of this, morality is irrelevant.
Regardless of who they were worshipped as, Heretic Gods are catastrophic presences to humanity.
Humans cannot defeat them.
The only ones capable of killing a Heretic God are Campiones.
And to become a Campione, one must slay a god.
A paradoxical cycle.
Because of that, there exists a famous saying.
It is not that humans slay gods and become Campiones.
Rather, only those who are destined to become Campiones are capable of slaying gods.
...
"So that's how it is."
Shuna sat quietly at the living room table, her expression difficult to describe.
"What a brilliant, yet terrifying world."
At the moment, Shirou Emiya was seated across from her, calmly explaining the structure and rules of this world. Beside them, little Rimuru listened with obvious fascination.
"I feel like this world emphasizes destiny a bit too much," Shuna said after a pause.
"It does," Shirou Emiya replied without hesitation.
He felt the same way.
The identity of a Campione carried a strong sense of inevitability, as if resistance itself was meaningless. Once marked, there was no turning back.
"Still," Shirou Emiya continued, "that kind of destiny only applies to the people of this world."
"It doesn't apply to us."
He dismissed the thought easily.
Whether something was fated or not held no real weight for him. If he wanted something, he would take it. Becoming a Campione was no exception.
As long as he could slay a god, Authority would be his.
"I remember," Shirou Emiya said, recalling the timeline, "Godou Kusanagi took the Prometheus Stone Slabs to Sardinia during his spring break."
"Looking at the calendar, that time isn't far off."
He leaned back slightly, already organizing his next steps.
"I should start preparing and head to Italy soon."
After all, before Godou Kusanagi encountered Verethragna, he had already fought against Melqart once. Shirou Emiya remembered that clearly.
That meant the Heretic Gods would begin appearing soon.
The timing mattered.
"Is that so..." Shuna looked at him, worry flickering briefly in her eyes. "Lord Shirou is really going to slay a god."
Then her expression steadied.
"I believe Lord Shirou will definitely become a Campione."
"I believe that too!"
Little Rimuru suddenly raised his voice from the side.
"And I want to fight with Father and help him defeat the Heretic God!"
"That's right," Shirou Emiya said with a small smile, rubbing little Rimuru's head. "With you, I'll definitely defeat Verethragna."
Little Rimuru's contribution to his combat power was undeniable.
Discard Incantation alone was already absurd. It allowed Shirou Emiya to instantly activate his two major magical abilities without preparation.
It was a completely unbalanced ability.
Just imagining someone like Riveria Ljos Alf using magic without incantations was enough to understand how terrifying it was.
Seeing little Rimuru's joyful expression, Shuna couldn't help but feel a hint of envy.
She knew the rules.
To obtain a Heretic God's Authority, the god had to be defeated fairly.
Little Rimuru counted as a weapon.
That meant fighting together was acceptable.
But she was different.
From Shirou Emiya's explanation, Shuna already understood that Campiones were immune to magic. And if Campiones were immune, then Heretic Gods would be as well.
In that situation, a magician like her would be useless in direct combat.
The realization weighed on her.
Her expression dimmed slightly.
Shirou Emiya noticed immediately.
He placed a hand on her shoulder without hesitation.
"Shuna, don't overthink it."
He spoke calmly, without force.
"Even if magic doesn't work on Heretic Gods or Campiones, it still works on everyone else."
"When I'm fighting a Heretic God," he continued, "or when I'm injured afterward..."
"I'll need someone to protect me."
Shuna froze for a moment.
Then her eyes brightened.
"I understand, Lord Shirou," she said firmly. "I won't feel dejected anymore."
She stood up, rolled up her sleeves, and smiled.
"Since everything important has been said, it's time for me to cook."
"Is there anything you'd like to eat, Lord Shirou?"
"I'm flexible."
"What about little Rimuru?"
"Me too. Shuna's cooking is always delicious."
"Then I'll decide!"
She nodded seriously and walked eagerly toward the kitchen.
Watching her cheerful figure disappear, Shirou Emiya smiled faintly.
He then turned his attention back to little Rimuru and sat beside him.
The child had become completely absorbed in the computer.
...
Sardinia Island and its surrounding islands formed the autonomous region of Sardinia.
Its capital, Cagliari, was a port city located in the southern part of the island. Originally built by the Phoenicians in the eighth century BC, it carried a history that stretched back thousands of years.
Even in Europe, where ancient cities were common, streets with such depth were rare.
"What a peaceful place."
Stepping out of the airport, Shirou Emiya felt the sea breeze brush against his face and let out a relaxed sigh.
"This feels completely different from Romania."
He glanced around at the scenery.
"Is this what an island is like?"
Shirou Emiya rarely traveled abroad.
Most of his overseas experiences had taken place in other worlds. Romania, where he had participated in the Holy Grail War. England, where the Clock Tower was located and where he had studied magic.
Aside from those, this was his first time visiting an island like this.
The streets were not fully modernized. They felt lived-in. Quiet.
After surveying his surroundings, Shirou Emiya began looking for a place to stay.
His purpose here was simple.
Wait.
Wait for the appearance of a Heretic God.
Until then, he needed a stable base.
Once that was settled, he would let Shuna and little Rimuru out from Tempest. Since he had arrived by plane, they couldn't accompany him directly.
In this world, Shirou Emiya had proper identification.
Shuna and little Rimuru did not.
As a result, the two were currently enjoying tea and flowers inside Tempest.
"First, accommodation," Shirou Emiya muttered.
"Then, once they're out, we'll explore the city a bit."
With his plan decided, he followed the navigation on his phone and walked toward the hotel he had booked in advance.
The calm before the storm stretched quietly around him.
