Chapter 421 - Chapter 421: Corpse Tide

With Heaven-Disaster level experts, pervasive gray mist, and rampant monsters, Chen Kong really couldn't associate Longevity Island with the words 'Medium Grade.'

In his view, forget about exploring such a place; it would be good enough just to walk out of here alive.

But in response to Chen Kong's doubts, Mi Yao merely scoffed, saying nothing more, as if he had discovered some 'secret.'

However, he still lacked some evidence, which made it impossible for him to judge the veracity of that 'information.'

Furthermore, his act of saving Chen Kong wasn't entirely out of kindness; he wanted someone to help him scout the path and verify some 'ideas' he had in mind.

Therefore, after a brief silence, Mi Yao actively changed the subject.

"Instead of discussing how dangerous this place is, you might as well concern yourself with other things."

"After all, we've already landed on the island, and the administrator's ship won't return until seven days from now."

"How to survive until the seventh day is what we need to consider."

As he spoke, Mi Yao's finger rested on a dense cluster of red dots in the center of the handheld game device's map.

The light spots there were several times more concentrated than elsewhere and were constantly flashing.

"I've observed that the closer you get to the center of the island, the richer the Star Energy in the environment becomes."

"I originally wanted to find a chance to go deeper into the island, but I discovered something dangerous, so I immediately turned back, which is how I ran into you."

Hearing that, Chen Kong asked curiously, "What did you discover?"

"Not sure. It could be an Elite Monster, or it might be the Great BOSS of Longevity Island."

Chen Kong was long accustomed to Mi Yao's trademark gaming terminology.

Anything he referred to as an Elite Monster must be at least a Level 3 Star Beast.

As for the so-called Great BOSS, it was almost certainly a Heaven-Disaster level existence.

Thinking of this, Chen Kong frowned, "Two Heaven-Disaster levels? We're only here for a trial. Why would we encounter so many Heaven-Disaster level beings?"

"Who knows."

Mi Yao turned off the game device and tossed it into the nearby backpack.

"Maybe the so-called 'Trial' is just a pretext, and the purpose is to trick us potential 'guys' onto the island, treating us as sacrifices to provide experience for the BOSS."

"After all, such a plot is not uncommon in 'games.'"

Upon hearing this, Chen Kong's heart instantly sank.

By this point, he also felt that this trial was clearly far more complex and dangerous than he had initially imagined.

It was as if an invisible large hand was controlling something from behind.

"Speaking of Tendo, do you know where he is?"

"That guy's Vector Field showed up on my interface as a 'Legendary Gold' level energy fluctuation, even more blinding than the BOSS's red dot."

"That energy slowly disappeared after lasting for a while."

"So, I deduced that he might have resolved the issue at the landing point. I was backtracking to find him and ask him a few things, but I ran into you first."

Hearing this, Chen Kong recalled the massive 'explosion' he vaguely saw in the distance before he left.

Although he didn't know the cause of the explosion or the outcome afterward, based on his understanding of Tendo—

"I don't know, but I'm sure he's still alive and is heading toward the nearest rallying point."

"We were also originally heading to that planned rallying point, but we got lost in the island's gray mist and ended up separating from the others."

"Is that so?" Mi Yao nodded, understanding what exactly had happened to Chen Kong and the others.

Just as the two were about to speak further, an unusual noise suddenly came from outside the cave.

This time, the noise was no longer the roar of the Corrupted Vine Corpses, but the 'rustling' sound of a certain plant rapidly growing.

Simultaneously, wisps of faint purple light silently penetrated through the gap at the entrance of the cave.

Seeing this, Mi Yao's expression instantly changed.

He stood up abruptly, put his headset back on, and took out his game device from his backpack to check the situation.

"Not good, it's a 'Vine Tide'! My interface shows that a large number of Corrupted Vine Corpses are surging towards this direction, as if controlled by something!"

Hearing this, Chen Kong immediately stood up as well.

As the light outside the cave entrance grew brighter, the sound of plant growth reaching their ears grew closer, and even the cave wall began to tremble slightly, causing small rock fragments to fall.

Chen Kong glanced at Mi Yao's game device and saw the dense cluster of red dots reflected clearly on the small map screen.

And these red dots were rushing towards the cave where they were located at an alarming speed.

"What should we do?"

His body hadn't fully recovered yet, and although Mi Yao was a Level 3 Star Envoy, he couldn't possibly win against hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Corrupted Vine Corpses, let alone while carrying a sick person like himself.

In response to Chen Kong's question, Mi Yao expertly packed his belongings and put on his headset.

He pressed his finger on the headset, and an exhilarating gaming background music (BGM) leaked out.

"What else can we do? Of course, we 'break through.'"

He raised his hand and pointed toward the cave entrance, saying confidently, "My 'Player Interface' shows a 'Hidden Passage' to the northwest. If we rush out, we can reach the next safe zone."

Despite this being a dangerous pursuit by a Corpse Tide, everything—from Mi Yao's mouth full of gaming jargon to the 'Game BGM' that was loud enough for Chen Kong to hear—made Chen Kong feel a sense of absurdity.

It was as if what they were about to do was not a life-or-death situation at all, but merely playing a tense and exciting game.

However, this absurdity did not last long; Chen Kong regained his composure.

"What about these Corrupted Vine Corpses..."

"Don't worry, I have a 'Decoy Item.'"

Mi Yao pulled out a red-flashing capsule from his backpack and casually tossed it toward the cave entrance.

"This is a 'Star Energy Bomb' exchanged with my game currency. It can simulate the energy fluctuation of a high-level Star Envoy and lure them in the opposite direction. We'll seize this moment to rush out. We need to be fast, understand?"

As soon as the capsule flew out of the cave, it emitted a blinding red light, followed by a huge explosion that shook the cave.

The Corrupted Vine Corpses outside immediately roared one after another, and the sounds of growing and footsteps surged toward the direction of the explosion.

"Now!"

Mi Yao rushed out first, the BGM in his headset at maximum volume.

"Follow my rhythm, don't fall behind! In my game, there is no such ending as a 'Team Wipe'!"

Chen Kong followed closely. The cave behind them was quickly covered by faint purple vines.

He looked back to see the Corrupted Vine Corpses surging like a tide toward the sound of the explosion, while he and Mi Yao's figures swiftly disappeared into the gray mist and jungle of Longevity Island.
