The afternoon air in the outskirts of the city felt much thicker and dustier. Daniel and Leo were now setting foot in a residential complex located quite far from the luxury of Avellyn City. This district looked run-down, noisy, and filled with rows of semi-permanent buildings with the scent of stagnant rainwater blocked in old gutters.
Their constantly rhythmic footsteps along the narrow stone street immediately triggered low-key attention. In an area where poverty was a daily sight, the presence of two well-built men wearing clothes that looked way too clean felt completely foreign.
Several pairs of eyes from behind the windows of corrugated iron houses took turns watching them with suspicious glares. Especially at Daniel.
Daniel intentionally pulled the hood of his black hoodie very low, hiding most of his head beneath a knit cap, complete with a cloth mask covering his face from his nose to his chin.
