Within the Kikyo Pass Battlefield, Konohagakure and Sunagakure were locked in a fierce and desperate struggle. Ninjas from both sides clashed daily, and with every passing sunset, the body count only climbed higher.
The battlefield was a literal hell on earth. Only those who had waded through its depths truly understood how cheap a life could be.
Yet, amidst this carnage, several ninjas began to rise to prominence, their extraordinary strength earning them renown within both great villages. Beyond established legends like Orochimaru and Jiraiya, the new generation boasted luminaries such as Minato Namikaze and Choza Akimichi. However, the most unique among them was still the youth known as Tianyuan.
Despite his young age, Tianyuan had already won the deep respect and adoration of the Konoha ninjas. Whenever Tianyuan stood at the helm of a unit, they secured a resounding victory over the Suna-nin, for his presence alone was a guarantee of success.
His strength was considered top-tier even among the Jonin. Throughout these recent battles, Tianyuan had personally slain several of Sunagakure's Jonin a loss that cut the Hidden Sand Village to the quick. Cultivating a Jonin was an arduous task for any village, and losing even one was a staggering blow to their military might.
The fear of him grew so great among the Suna-nin that a rumor began to circulate: if you saw Tianyuan on the battlefield, you had to retreat immediately, or your life would be forfeit.
It wasn't just his lethality that made him famous; he had also saved countless Konoha ninjas. On this blood-soaked ground, there were few who hadn't been touched by his intervention or rescued by his hand.
From that moment on, after days of relentless warfare, Tianyuan was no longer just the "genius with Jonin-level strength" in the eyes of his peers. He was a hero of Konoha.
Nicknames began to proliferate across the camps of both allies and enemies: some called him the Black Flash, others the Emperor of the Night. His legend spread like wildfire through the ranks of Konohagakure and Sunagakure alike.
In the Hokage Office within the Hokage Building, Hiruzen Sarutobi looked down at the latest battle reports.
"Tianyuan has performed exceptionally well," Hiruzen murmured, scanning the details of the conflict between Konoha and Sunagakure. Although the Suna-nin boasted superior numbers, Konoha was holding the line effectively. This realization allowed Hiruzen to breathe a small sigh of relief.
"But... is there still no movement from the other villages?" Hiruzen tapped his fingers lightly on the desk, his expression contemplative. This silence differed from what they had initially anticipated.
"Is it truly just Sunagakure?" Hiruzen's gaze grew heavy. If that were the case, it would be a blessing for Konoha, but he knew better than to trust appearances.
A sharp knock sounded at the door.
"Enter," Hiruzen commanded.
An Anbu ninja appeared, kneeling before him. "Hokage-sama, our scouts have confirmed that the ninjas of Iwagakure are planning to cross through Kusagakure to enter the borders of the Land of Fire."
"Iwagakure," Hiruzen repeated, his voice sinking into a low growl. "What are their numbers?"
"The vanguard consists of approximately one thousand ninjas. The size of the follow-up forces remains unknown," the Anbu reported.
"Then it is time to assemble the Jonin. We must move now," Hiruzen declared.
"Yes, Hokage-sama!" The Anbu disappeared in a flicker of movement to deliver the summons.
Before long, a group of Konoha ninjas had gathered in the office. Hiruzen looked over his soldiers and addressed them sternly. "Iwagakure intends to cut through Kusagakure to launch an invasion against Konoha. I am dispatching you immediately to intercept them."
"Now, hear my orders. Shinku Yuhi..." Hiruzen began assigning the Jonin to their respective positions, tasking them with leading the counter-offensive to halt the Iwa-nin's advance.
The ninjas departed quickly. Time was of the essence; if they didn't act now, the enemy would soon be knocking on the doors of the Land of Fire. It was always preferable to fight in a foreign land than to let the destruction visit their own soil.
Once the arrangements were made, Hiruzen penned another letter this one destined for the Kikyo Pass Battlefield. He applied his unique seal to the scroll, a verification measure to ensure that even if the letter were intercepted by another village, its contents would remain secure.
"Deliver this to Jiraiya and Orochimaru at the Kikyo Pass. Inform them of the situation here," Hiruzen said, handing the scroll to the Anbu messenger.
"Yes, Hokage-sama! The mission will be completed!" The ninja vanished instantly.
Hiruzen stood and walked to the window, looking out over Konoha. "Tianyuan, I am leaving that battlefield in your hands. I hope you do not disappoint me."
The streets of the village were notably quieter now. Although the war was not being fought at their gates, the shadow of conflict inevitably loomed over the civilian life.
"This time, Konoha will emerge victorious," Hiruzen said, his eyes turning cold and determined.
While Konoha was mobilizing to block Iwagakure, the cleanup was underway at Kikyo Pass.
"Tianyuan, the battlefield has been cleared," Kushina Uzumaki said, approaching the youth.
"Good. Pass down the word we're heading back. Everyone needs to rest," Tianyuan replied, glancing at the exhausted ninjas around him.
A war was never something that ended quickly. Campaigns in the field meant living with the constant threat of death, a toll that wore on the soul as much as the body. However, the ninjas under Tianyuan's command considered themselves lucky.
They were happy to follow him because Tianyuan's squads consistently maintained the lowest mortality rate in the village.
Many ninjas in Konoha were practically begging to be transferred into his unit.
Over the past few weeks, Tianyuan's prestige within the command center had skyrocketed. It was a status earned purely through results. The other Jonin no longer looked down on him as they had in the beginning.
When Tianyuan first arrived, many veterans had been skeptical. They wondered what use a mere brat could be, assuming that even if he had the power of a Jonin, he was still a green rookie.
They were quickly proven wrong. Tianyuan was more of an "old hand" than any of them. Whether it was reading the flow of the battlefield or sheer combat experience, he surpassed the veterans.
As Tianyuan walked through the Konoha encampment, many ninjas offered him grateful smiles.
"Tianyuan, you're back," Jiraiya said with a grin as he watched the youth enter. "Come, let's talk. Our current situation is looking quite good."
As Tianyuan sat down to discuss the next steps with Jiraiya and the others, a different conversation was happening elsewhere.
In the Sunagakure encampment, Rasa and his inner circle were huddled together, secretly plotting their next move.
