Veldanava told him to help two girls that were apparently born on the same day as him, which confused him because… does that even matter? It was literally the dawn of creation. Beings were supposed to be born on the same day unless the Creator was procrastinating. Which, by the way, Velgris could confirm. Certified Procrastinator God.
So he was confused why his brother even mentioned it, but he eventually shrugged and went to look for the girls.
He observed them from a distance, melted into his own shadow, erased his presence like a ninja.
White clothes covered their whole bodies. They had the same black hair length. One of them had scars on her face. They looked completely identical, and the only difference was the color of their three pairs of wings. One had white wings. The other had black.
They reminded him of a dove and a crow.
Suddenly, some fairies popped out of nowhere and swarmed the one with white wings. They invited her to play, dragged her off somewhere, and left the other one alone.
"Boo~" Velgris tried to scare the remaining girl. He expected a "Kyaaa!" but what he actually heard was: "Tree Sword."
A nearby tree turned into a sword, floated into her hand, and she immediately swung it at him.
Everything happened in one second. Her reaction was insane.
"Ayo chill!" Velgris dodged. If he was even a bit late, she would have bonked him hard. It would not kill him, but it definitely looked painful. Girl swung like she had DLC strength.
"You have the same air as the first one. Who are you? What are you doing here?" Her voice was cold and cautious.
"Umm." Velgris opened his mouth. But wait… what was he doing here? His brother told him to help them, sure, but they looked fine. Maybe he was just bored. He was starting to understand why gods do random stuff for entertainment.
"I'm friendly okay, look." Velgris raised his hands and smiled in what he thought was a comforting way.
He did not know that his smile looked like he was about to scam her life savings.
"You don't look friendly." She raised a brow.
"Hey, wow, I'm offended. I'm the kindest man you will ever meet." He said it like it was a universal truth. Then he continued:
"To be honest, me talking to you is an act of Humility, maybe you should thank me for tha—"
He could not finish. The girl swung at him again. And again. And again.
He dodged casually. Having a dragon's eye was basically a cheat code for predicting movements.
"Is this how you say thank you?" he mocked.
"You're infuriating." Her next swing was stronger, but he still dodged.
"Excuse me, you mispronounced stunning."
"Tsk."
Even after half an hour, she was still swinging her wooden sword. Velgris was confused. Why was she only using physical attacks? Her aura felt powerful, but her attacks felt like baby mode.
Eventually, she collapsed onto the grass, breathing heavily.
"Hahaha! Is that all you got?" Velgris teased and poked her head with her own sword.
"Y-you! Vengeance will be mine!" she tried to stand, but her body said no.
Velgris continued messing with her until a horrifying realization hit him.
"Oh shit."
What was he doing? He was supposed to help them. But she attacked first, and it was not like he fought back. She was just extremely easy to rage bait, so he… tested it a little.
Not his fault she had zero resistance to provocation, right?
Yeah. Not his fault.
My brother is going to kill me.
I am so screwed.
Voice is probably watching right now, ready to snitch just to get bonus points.
While he was busy imagining his death sentence, he suddenly heard her murmur:
"B-bastard, I'm gonna tell my sister about this, the fairies, and many many more." Tears began falling from her eyes.
"Wait are you crying?"
No shit, she was. It was not like he forgot she was literally a child, but the way she acted so cautiously made him think she was mature.
Now all he could see was a kid trying to act tough.
"You ugly bully." She wiped her tears, but they kept coming.
"Hey I'm not ugly!"
"Waaa~ I hate you so much." His words made her cry harder.
Yep. He should keep his mouth shut now.

Velgris did not know how to comfort a child, but he did know the candy theory. Kids stop crying when you give them something sweet.
Candies did not exist yet. But fruits did, and these ancient fruits were basically sugar bombs filled with magicules. If a human ate one, they would explode like a firework.
But the girl was definitely not human, so he took out two apples from his shadow, which worked like an inventory.
He handed one to her.
"What is this? What are you trying—"
He cut her off by gently shoving the fruit into her mouth just enough for her to taste it.
She caught it, chewed it, and her eyes softened when she tasted the sweetness.
Silence settled in. Velgris wondered, "Am I doing this right?"
She looked fine now, so probably yes.
He took a bite of the other fruit.
"D-do I not scare you?" she suddenly asked.
"Hm? Why should I be?"
Did she scare him? No. Ever since becoming a True Dragon, nothing in the universe could scare him.
Well, except if science and math teamed up. Also his big brother. Only those.
She did not reply.
"Look sis! The fairies fixed my hair!" her sister returned at the most dramatic timing.
Velgris and the girl both looked at her as she turned around to show off her new hairstyle.
Then she noticed him.
"Eh, who is he?"
