Just a dream.
A bad dream from which Lola would wake up. That was what she wished, and it was granted.
As a tear trickled down the side of her face, her eyes slowly opened. Her body ached, her head throbbed, and her vision was blurry from the tears that never left her eyes.
When she blinked, another tear slid down her temple. The first thing she saw was the white ceiling. Then, the sickening stench of sterility assaulted her nostrils before the beeping of the heart monitor echoed in her ears.
It was all a dream, after all, she thought.
Slowly, Lola raised her arm and rested it over her eyes. Her lips quivered as she bit them as hard as she could.
It was just a dream, but waking up to reality was no better. She didn't have to wonder where she was. The scent, the sterile whiteness of the ceiling, and the beeping echoing in her ears were enough to tell. She was at the hospital, recuperating.
