Chapter 56 - Mirror Shard

BEN 10: ULTIMATE ALIEN

"Mirror Shard"

A Fan-Made Episode Script (Original Story)

COLD OPEN

EXT. BELLWOOD QUARRY — NIGHT

Floodlights cut through settling dust. Heavy mining equipment sits abandoned, mid-operation, as if everyone simply walked away. At the center of the quarry floor, a deep, fresh crater glows faintly from within — pale blue light pulsing upward through cracked stone.

A PLUMBER GEOLOGIST kneels at the crater's edge, scanner in hand, when the light suddenly FLARES. She stumbles back, shielding her eyes.

GEOLOGIST

(into comm, urgent)

Base, I need eyes on the quarry. Something just came out of the ground, and it's not on any excavation manifest—

A low, resonant CRACK echoes from the crater. Stone splits outward in a perfect radial pattern, and something rises from within — vaguely humanoid, faceted, glowing pale blue from internal fractures, easily nine feet tall.

The geologist doesn't run. She just stares, transfixed, as the shape steadies and turns toward her.

GEOLOGIST (CONT'D)

(quiet, almost reverent)

...That's not possible.

INT. PLUMBER HQ — SITUATION ROOM — NIGHT

MAX TENNYSON reviews recovered footage with BEN, GWEN, and KEVIN — the crystalline figure rising from the crater, frozen mid-frame.

MAX

(grim)

We lost contact with the geologist eight minutes after that frame. No sign of struggle. No sign of her at all.

GWEN

(studying the shape)

That structure, the faceting, the internal glow — Ben, that looks almost exactly like—

KEVIN

(finishing, flatly)

Diamondhead. That looks like Diamondhead.

A beat. All three look at Ben.

BEN

(uneasy)

Yeah. I noticed.

MAX

(firm)

Whatever it is, it's not waiting around. We move now.

ACT ONE

EXT. QUARRY — NIGHT

The team arrives at the crater's edge. The crystalline figure stands motionless nearby, glowing faintly, utterly still — until it turns its head sharply toward them the moment they step into the light.

GWEN

(scanning, tense)

Energy signature's almost a perfect match to your Diamondhead readings, but there's a strange resonance underneath it. Like an echo layered behind the real thing.

BEN

(steadying himself)

Okay. Let's not assume it's friendly just because it's wearing a familiar face.

He slaps the Ultimatrix.

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Green light wraps him. His frame doubles in width, two extra arms sprouting from his sides, skin reddening, muscle mass surging dramatically.

BEN (AS FOUR ARMS)

(flexing all four fists)

Four Arms! If that thing's hostile, let's find out the hard way — on my terms, not its.

He advances. The crystalline figure tilts its head, then SHATTERS apart into a spray of glittering shards — which immediately reform a few feet away in the exact same shape, completely unharmed.

FOUR ARMS

(blinking)

...Okay, that's a neat trick.

The figure lunges — fast, far faster than Diamondhead's usual deliberate movements — and Four Arms barely catches its strike on crossed forearms, the impact ringing out like struck glass.

FOUR ARMS

(grunting, shoving it back)

Strong, fast, AND it shatters and reforms. Great. Love a threat with a built-in respawn.

Gwen, scanning from a safe distance, frowns hard at her readout.

GWEN

(urgent, over comm)

Ben, that resonance I mentioned — it's getting stronger every time you hit it. I don't think it's actually copying Diamondhead's body. I think it's copying something else. Something underneath.

FOUR ARMS

(dodging another strike)

Copying WHAT, exactly?!

GWEN (V.O.)

(realization dawning, alarmed)

I think it's reading the Ultimatrix itself.

ACT TWO

Four Arms backs off, processing that, as the crystalline figure reforms yet again from a particularly hard blow, glowing brighter than before — clearly growing stronger from every exchange, not weaker.

FOUR ARMS

(grim, retreating a step)

Okay. Hitting it harder isn't the play. It's learning from every hit.

He glances at the Ultimatrix, already flickering.

FOUR ARMS (CONT'D)

Then maybe I stop fighting it like a wall and start fighting it like... itself.

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Green light. His bulky red form smooths into something sleek, crystalline, pale green and faceted, sharp angular limbs catching the floodlights.

BEN (AS DIAMONDHEAD)

(steady)

Diamondhead. Alright. Let's see how you like fighting something that actually is what you're pretending to be.

The two crystalline figures face off — nearly identical in silhouette, one glowing pale blue, one a familiar pale green. The copy tilts its head again, as if recalibrating, and the resonance Gwen detected spikes sharply.

GWEN (V.O.)

(alarmed)

Ben, wait — that might not have been the right call! If it's mimicking Ultimatrix energy signatures, giving it a clean, direct match to copy from might make it even more—

Too late. The copy's form ripples, locks onto Diamondhead's exact structure, and doubles in size in a single, sudden surge, easily towering over him now.

DIAMONDHEAD

(staring up at it)

...Yeah, okay, that's the bad outcome.

The now-massive copy swings a crystalline forearm, and Diamondhead barely rolls clear, the blow cratering the ground where he'd stood. He scrambles back toward Gwen and Kevin's position, breathing hard.

KEVIN

(absorbing nearby rock for armor, tense)

Please tell me that's not just going to keep growing every time it copies something.

GWEN

(scanning fast, piecing it together)

It's not copying power level. It's copying confidence — every time you commit fully to a matchup, it reads that commitment as a baseline to scale past. The harder you fight it head-on, the more "head-on" it learns to be.

DIAMONDHEAD

(grim, realization setting in)

So the actual trick isn't matching it. It's not matching it. Like Echo Echo and that frequency thing all over again, except backwards.

KEVIN

(confused)

What?

DIAMONDHEAD

(already moving)

Never mind — just trust me. I need to stop showing it my best move and start showing it something it can't actually use.

ACT THREE

Diamondhead circles wide, deliberately disengaging from direct confrontation, letting the towering copy lumber after him without committing to a real counter-strike. The copy, confused by the lack of a clear pattern to escalate against, begins to visibly destabilize — its massive form flickering, struggling to hold a baseline it no longer has.

DIAMONDHEAD

(calling out, drawing it on)

That's it. No big swing to copy. Just... this.

He flicks a small, almost lazy shard-shot at it — minimal force, barely a tap. The copy, having calibrated itself entirely around matching intensity, visibly struggles to scale a response to something that small, its form rippling unstably.

GWEN

(watching, realization hitting)

He's starving it. No commitment to copy means nothing to grow from.

But the copy, panicking, does something unexpected — instead of shrinking, it lashes out wildly, indiscriminately, shards flying in every direction, no longer a controlled fighter but a destabilizing mass of raw, directionless energy, dangerously close to the geologist's last known position markers still flagged near the crater.

DIAMONDHEAD

(alarmed)

Oh, that's worse. Cornered AND unstable is worse.

He glances at the Ultimatrix, flickering rapidly now — the pre-Ultimate stutter, urgent.

DIAMONDHEAD (CONT'D)

Then I need full control, not full restraint. Time to actually be more than it can copy.

[ULTIMATE TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

The Ultimatrix symbol SNAPS open on his chest, deploying glowing mechanical petals across his crystalline frame. His angular body sharpens further, additional crystal growths layering across his limbs and shoulders like natural armor, internal light shifting from pale green to a deep, steady violet.

BEN (AS ULTIMATE DIAMONDHEAD)

(resonant, controlled)

Ultimate Diamondhead!

The destabilizing copy lashes out wildly in his direction. Rather than dodge or counter directly, Ultimate Diamondhead raises both arms and generates a precise, branching crystal lattice — not an attack, but a containment structure, growing outward in controlled geometric patterns to physically cage the flailing copy's wild discharges.

ULTIMATE DIAMONDHEAD

(steady, focused)

You don't get to copy this. This isn't a fight. This is just structure.

The lattice grows methodically, channel by channel, absorbing and redirecting the copy's panicked discharges into the crystal structure itself rather than letting them scatter dangerously. The copy's form, with nothing left to escalate against and no wild energy left uncontained, finally begins to slow, its glow dimming from frantic blue to something duller, calmer.

At the heart of the lattice, the copy's form shrinks, the crystalline shell finally cracking open — revealing, curled inside, not a hostile entity at all, but the missing GEOLOGIST, unconscious but breathing, faintly glowing residue fading from her skin.

GWEN

(stunned)

She's— it had her inside it this whole time.

ULTIMATE DIAMONDHEAD

(carefully extracting her from the dissolving lattice)

Not hostile. Not really even separate. I think it was a defense reaction — whatever's in that crater, it grabbed the nearest stable structure it could find to survive contact, and that happened to be her.

KEVIN

(staring at the now-empty, inert crystal shell)

So the "monster" was just... her, panicking, amplified by something underground?

GWEN

(checking scanner, piecing it together)

And every time we fought it like a separate threat, we were just escalating her own fear response into something bigger and less controllable.

ULTIMATE DIAMONDHEAD

(gently lowering her to safety as paramedics arrive)

Yeah. Sometimes the monster everyone's scared of is just somebody who got scared first.

TAG SCENE

EXT. QUARRY — LATER

Dawn. The crater's glow has faded to nothing, the geologist now stable, being loaded into a medical transport, conscious but disoriented. Max oversees containment of the now-dormant crystal shell. Ben, back to human, stands with Gwen and Kevin.

MAX

(examining the inert shell)

Some kind of dormant resonant crystal vein under the quarry floor — reacts defensively to fear, amplifying and copying whatever's nearby to survive contact. She must have triggered it during her initial scan.

GWEN

And every time Ben fought it head-on, it had something fresh and powerful to copy and escalate against.

BEN

(quiet, thoughtful)

Yeah. Funny how the actual fix wasn't "hit it harder." It was "stop giving it something worth copying."

KEVIN

(arms crossed, genuinely impressed)

Four Arms, then Diamondhead, then Ultimate Diamondhead, and the whole twist was basically "don't try so hard." That's either really clever or really anticlimactic.

BEN

(smirking, glancing at the Ultimatrix — calm, green, quiet now)

With us, it's usually both.

Max gives a small nod toward the recovering geologist as paramedics finish loading her transport. Gwen and Kevin fall in step beside Ben as they head back toward the car, the quarry behind them finally calm under the rising sun.

FADE OUT.

END OF EPISODE

Writer's Notes

Structural homage to the referenced episode: like Ultimate Echo Echo vs. Big Chill, the true nature of the threat only becomes clear in the final act, and the resolution hinges on understanding the enemy's actual mechanic rather than simply out-powering it — escalating force makes things worse until Ben changes his approach entirely.

Lineup logic: Four Arms establishes the initial, instinctively aggressive read on the threat (and is punished for it), Diamondhead provides the direct, mirrored confrontation that reveals the real copying mechanic (commitment/intensity, not raw power), and Ultimate Diamondhead resolves the conflict not through bigger force, but through structural control — containment rather than combat, paying off the "stop escalating" theme established across the previous two forms.

The twist — that the "monster" is actually a frightened bystander fused with a defensive crystal resonance — keeps with the recurring theme of misidentified threats in this set, but ties the mechanism of misunderstanding directly to Ben's own fighting instincts, making his own escalation part of the problem rather than just an external mystery to solve.
