Chapter 57 - Scent of the Pack

BEN 10: ULTIMATE ALIEN

"Scent of the Pack"

A Fan-Made Episode Script (Original Story)

COLD OPEN

EXT. BELLWOOD OUTSKIRTS — ABANDONED FARMLAND — NIGHT

Overgrown fields, a sagging barn silhouetted against a starless sky. A PLUMBER TRACKER kneels in the dirt, examining a set of strange tracks — too large for any known animal, claw-marks splayed in a pattern that doesn't match anything natural.

TRACKER

(into comm, low)

Base, I've got fresh tracks heading toward the old barn. Whatever made these is big, and it's not alone — I'm counting at least three distinct trail patterns.

A low GROWL rolls out from the darkness of the barn — layered, overlapping, like more than one throat growling in unison.

The tracker slowly stands, flashlight beam catching multiple sets of glowing eyes within the barn's shadowed doorway — far too many for a single creature, all watching him without moving.

TRACKER (CONT'D)

(backing away, voice tight)

...Base, belay that last report. Send backup. A lot of it.

INT. PLUMBER HQ — SITUATION ROOM — NIGHT

MAX TENNYSON reviews the tracker's last transmission — garbled audio, then silence — with BEN, GWEN, and KEVIN.

MAX

(grim)

We lost his signal four minutes after that recording. Last known position, the old Hendricks farm at the edge of town.

GWEN

(studying a photo of the tracks)

Multiple individuals, coordinated movement, possible pack behavior. This isn't a lone predator.

KEVIN

(arms crossed)

Great. So instead of one big scary thing, we've got a whole scary thing family.

BEN

(standing, already grabbing his jacket)

Then we go in smart. Find out what we're actually dealing with before we start swinging.

ACT ONE

EXT. HENDRICKS FARM — NIGHT

The team approaches the sagging barn cautiously, flashlights sweeping overgrown fields. The low, layered growling resumes, closer now, echoing from multiple directions at once.

GWEN

(scanning, uneasy)

I'm reading at least four distinct heat signatures inside that barn. All large. All moving in sync.

BEN

(grim)

Sync's the part that worries me. Let's see what we're working with.

He slaps the Ultimatrix.

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Green light wraps him. His form hunches low, fur erupting across orange-and-black hide, no visible eyes, a wide sensor-fin flaring open atop his skull.

BEN (AS WILDMUTT)

(low, guttural snarl)

Wildmutt! Alright. Let's smell out what we're actually up against.

He drops to all fours, sensor-fin flaring wide, scenting the air. Multiple distinct, overlapping scent-trails register at once — animal, yes, but underneath it, something colder, more mechanical, threading through each one.

WILDMUTT

(snarling, alert)

Something's wrong with the scent. There's an animal smell, but there's something else laced through every single trail. Same "something else," every time.

The barn doors EXPLODE outward as four creatures burst free — wolf-like, but wrong, joints bending at unnatural angles, eyes glowing a flat, uniform amber, moving with eerie, identical synchronization, as if controlled by a single will split across four bodies.

GWEN

(alarmed)

They're not just coordinated — they're moving in exact unison. That's not pack behavior. That's something puppeting all four at once.

Wildmutt snarls, circling as the four creatures spread out to surround him, each movement mirrored perfectly across all four.

WILDMUTT

(grim)

Then let's see if hitting one rattles all four.

He lunges at the nearest creature — and the moment he makes contact, all four flinch in unison, even the ones he never touched.

WILDMUTT (CONT'D)

(startled)

...Okay, that confirms it. They're linked.

ACT TWO

The four creatures regroup, faster now, clearly having "learned" something from the single exchange across their entire group simultaneously. Wildmutt backs toward Gwen and Kevin's position.

KEVIN

(absorbing nearby fence metal, wary)

So if hitting one teaches all four, we need to actually slow this down before they out-adapt us completely.

WILDMUTT

(snarling, already moving toward the Ultimatrix)

Then let's bring something that hits harder than "teaching them a lesson."

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Green light. His hunched, furred frame bulks upward, two extra arms sprouting from his sides, skin reddening, muscle surging dramatically.

BEN (AS FOUR ARMS)

(flexing all four fists)

Four Arms! Let's see how "linked" you stay when I'm not pulling punches.

He charges, catching one creature with a full four-armed haymaker that sends it tumbling hard into the dirt — and all four creatures stagger in unison again, clearly feeling the impact collectively despite only one being struck.

FOUR ARMS

(grim satisfaction)

There we go. Hit hard enough, and the whole network feels it.

But the remaining three creatures, rattled, suddenly converge on him at once from three different angles — clearly compensating, using their shared awareness to coordinate a simultaneous strike rather than risk further isolated losses.

FOUR ARMS (CONT'D)

(catching two strikes on crossed arms, straining)

Okay — that's the downside of "shared awareness." They know exactly how to gang up.

Gwen, scanning from a distance, frowns hard.

GWEN

(urgent, over comm)

Ben, the cold signature underneath the animal scent Wildmutt caught earlier — it's not coming from the creatures. It's coming from somewhere behind them. Like a transmitter.

FOUR ARMS

(grappling, straining)

You're saying there's a fifth thing actually running this show?!

GWEN (V.O.)

(grim)

I'm saying these might not even be the real threat. Just the delivery system.

Four Arms shoves the creatures back hard enough to create breathing room, scanning the dark treeline beyond the farm for any sign of a hidden source.

FOUR ARMS

(determined)

Then I need to actually find it, not just keep punching its puppets.

He glances at the Ultimatrix, already flickering.

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Green light. His bulky red form dissolves into something fluid, translucent green, shapeless and oozing, no fixed silhouette at all.

BEN (AS GOOP)

(voice bubbling, distorted)

Goop! Perfect. Let's slip past the puppets and find the puppeteer.

He flattens and flows beneath the creatures' line of attack entirely, sliding low across the ground, past their confused, swiping claws, and surges toward the treeline where the cold signal originates.

ACT THREE

EXT. TREELINE — MOMENTS LATER

Goop surges up out of the underbrush, reforming into a loose humanoid shape, facing a small, half-buried mechanical device nestled at the base of an old tree — pulsing with the same flat amber glow as the creatures' eyes, clearly the source signal.

GOOP

(examining it)

There you are. Bet you're not nearly as tough without four bodies to hide behind.

He reaches to disable it — but the device PULSES sharply the moment he touches it, and behind him, all four creatures suddenly redirect, abandoning their fight with Four Arms entirely and converging on Goop's position instead, moving with frantic, almost desperate urgency.

GOOP

(alarmed)

Okay, that got their attention fast.

GWEN (V.O.)

(urgent, over comm)

Ben, that's not a transmitter — it's a core. Those creatures aren't being controlled remotely. They're tethered to it directly, like it's keeping all four of them alive and synced at once. If it goes offline wrong, it might not just disconnect them—

KEVIN (V.O.)

(finishing, grim)

—it might kill them.

Goop backs away from the device as the four creatures bear down on his position, clearly willing to fight desperately to protect whatever's keeping them linked and functional.

GOOP

(grim realization)

They're not attacking to hurt us. They're defending their own lifeline. That's not malice. That's survival.

The creatures close in fast. Goop glances toward the device, then back at the approaching pack, the Ultimatrix already flickering rapidly — the pre-Ultimate stutter, urgent now.

GOOP (CONT'D)

(determined)

Then I need to be something that can actually understand what they're protecting, not just dodge it.

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE → ULTIMATE]

Green light wraps him, snapping immediately into a hunched, furred shape — Wildmutt's silhouette returning, but the Ultimatrix symbol on his chest is already snapping open before the base form even fully settles, mechanical petals deploying directly into the evolved form.

BEN (AS ULTIMATE WILDMUTT)

(deeper snarl, layered, resonant)

Ultimate Wildmutt!

His sensor-fin widens dramatically, additional bony plating crowning his skull, claws lengthening, senses sharpening far beyond the base form's range — and for the first time, he can clearly perceive not just scent, but the exact nature of the linking signal itself, reading it like a second nervous system layered over his own.

ULTIMATE WILDMUTT

(snarling, focused)

Okay. I can actually read this now. They're not hostile. They're scared, and that core's the only thing keeping all four of them stable.

The four creatures converge on him in a final, desperate, coordinated lunge. Rather than meet them with force, Ultimate Wildmutt drops low and lets his heightened senses guide him directly to the precise rhythm of their shared link — and instead of fighting all four, he matches that rhythm with his own snarl, layered and synchronized perfectly to their frequency.

ULTIMATE WILDMUTT (CONT'D)

(snarling in their own cadence)

There. Match the link instead of breaking it.

The four creatures freeze mid-lunge, clearly registering him now as part of their own synchronized pattern rather than an external threat. Their frantic energy steadies, eyes dimming from frantic amber to something calmer.

Carefully, Ultimate Wildmutt approaches the half-buried device, gently easing its connection rather than ripping it free, allowing the four creatures' link to taper down gradually instead of snapping all at once.

ULTIMATE WILDMUTT

(low, steady)

Easy. Nice and slow. Nobody's losing anybody tonight.

The device powers down gently, its amber glow fading to nothing. The four creatures, freed from the frantic, forced synchronization, slowly separate into distinct individual postures and movement for the first time, no longer mirror images of each other, clearly disoriented but no longer in pain.

Gwen and Kevin arrive at the treeline just as the last of the device's glow fades entirely.

GWEN

(stunned, scanning)

They're stable. Individually. For the first time since we got here.

KEVIN

(staring)

So the actual monster was a busted machine forcing four animals to share a single panicked brain?

ULTIMATE WILDMUTT

(quietly, watching the creatures settle)

Yeah. And every time we hit them like a threat, we were just making four scared animals feel more cornered together.

TAG SCENE

EXT. HENDRICKS FARM — LATER

Dawn breaks over the farmland. Plumber containment crews carefully tag and prepare gentle transport for the four now-separated, much calmer creatures — clearly ordinary, if unusually large, wildlife once freed from the device's influence. Max examines the deactivated core nearby.

MAX

(turning the device over in his hands)

Old experimental tech — designed to network multiple subjects into a single controlled response. Whoever built this either lost control of it, or abandoned it here deliberately. Either way, it's been quietly malfunctioning out here for a while.

GWEN

And forcing those four into permanent, panicked sync the whole time.

BEN

(watching the creatures load calmly into transport, looking genuinely more like normal, healthy animals now)

Yeah. No wonder they came in swinging. Imagine never getting a single private thought to yourself.

KEVIN

(stretching, exhausted)

Wildmutt, then Four Arms, then Goop, then Ultimate Wildmutt, all in one night, and the actual fix was "stop hitting them and start listening." I'm sensing a pattern with us lately.

BEN

(smirking, glancing at the Ultimatrix — calm, green, quiet now)

Yeah. Funny how that keeps being the answer.

Max gives a small, approving nod as the last transport vehicle pulls away. Gwen and Kevin fall in step beside Ben as the three head back across the quiet, sunlit farmland.

FADE OUT.

END OF EPISODE

Writer's Notes

Structural homage to the referenced episode: as with Ultimate Echo Echo vs. Big Chill, the true nature of the threat only fully resolves in the final act, and the actual antagonist is revealed to be a malfunctioning device rather than the creatures themselves — escalating force makes the situation more dangerous until Ben shifts from fighting to understanding.

Lineup logic: Wildmutt uses scent-tracking to first detect that "something else" is layered beneath the creatures' presence, Four Arms demonstrates that brute force only proves the pack is linked (without solving anything), Goop is used specifically for stealth infiltration to locate the hidden device once direct combat reveals there's a deeper cause, and Ultimate Wildmutt resolves the conflict by using heightened senses to literally synchronize with the link rather than break it by force — directly escalating Wildmutt's core ability (scent/sense-based perception) into the actual solution, rather than introducing an unrelated power.

The "villains" are blameless once again, but distinguished here by a forced collective state rather than individual fear or confusion — raising the emotional stakes (four minds trapped in involuntary unison) while keeping the resolution nonviolent and consistent with the tone of this story set.

This is an original fan-made story using the existing Ben 10 Ultimate Alien characters and the established Wildmutt, Four Arms, Diamondhead*, Goop, and Ultimate Wildmutt transformations — not a reproduction of any official episode or script.

*Diamondhead was held in reserve for this script and not used on-screen, since the story's escalation logic (scent-tracking → brute force → stealth infiltration → synchronized senses) didn't call for a direct mirror-matchup this time; happy to revise to write him in directly if you'd like a specific beat for him.
