Chapter 47 - Chapter 48: Gerita Berry

With Gulina's guidance, Amir learned to concentrate the Force in a specific area of his brain. This allowed the Force to flow regularly, strengthening the connection between that area and the Force.

"How does it feel? Do you feel like your mind is entering a strange space?" Gulina asked.

After several attempts, Amir felt something, though it wasn't quite what Gulina had described.

"There's a peculiar sensation, but it's not as pronounced as you described," Amir said, still reluctant to let Gulina use the Force again to sense Lango.

First, Amir had many unanswered questions about the "peering sensation" Gulina had mentioned, as well as the incident in which the Empire pursued him. These incidents made him hesitant to let Gulina use the Force again.

Second, the ability itself was too uncertain. There was a high chance that it wouldn't detect Lango's location; it might provide some clues, but the effect wouldn't be significant.

So Amir tried to learn this ability himself, but the results weren't promising.

Based on Gulina's experience, her perception wasn't very clear at first, but she started off much better than Amir did, immediately sensing a vague premonition.

Amir decided to practice more and look for clues in the star system.

He installed all the instruments on Hak's spaceship and boarded the Traveler.

After asking Hak about planets where he might find information, Amir set off.

This star system was xenophobic and conducted strict inspections of uncertified alien spaceships.

This was a precaution against the Empire and other potential threats, especially since the Empire had recently begun planning armed actions, making the situation here quite tense.

However, every star system had a few planets or cities that weren't as strictly guarded.

Some were completely unguarded, serving as havens for bounty hunters, pirates, and fugitives.

Amir decided to head to one of those places first and see if he could get lucky.

Traveling in hyperspace is swift.

Soon, he arrived above a yellowish-brown planet.

After locking onto the coordinates, the Traveler entered the atmosphere and rapidly approached a small oasis in the middle of a desert.

After landing at the port, he slung his small backpack over his shoulder and walked into the remote town.

Though unremarkable in appearance, this was the most active hub for underground organizations in the star system. He should be able to gather information here.

The place with the most information was undoubtedly the tavern.

Amir headed toward the center of town, where a building far larger than its surroundings stood. Its neatly arranged circular domes and smooth, sand-colored walls gave the structure a unique charm.

Pulling the hood of his cloak forward, Amir quietly entered the tavern.

Every time he entered a tavern, he gained new insights and marveled at the "biodiversity."

There were many intelligent beings here that he had never seen before.

In addition to species that seemed native to the star domain, larger populations of more widely distributed species were also active here, such as humans, Ithorians, Rodians, and Twi'leks.

The interior of the tavern was quite different from the outside.

The floor was covered with white stone bricks, and the bar and tables were made of smooth stone, making even the disheveled patrons sitting there appear clean.

Amir walked straight to the bar and ordered a juice.

Looking at his wrist guard, he decided to add a listening function to his spider robot. Relying solely on his ears in cramped spaces was fine, but here it would be too difficult to hear useful information.

A waiter approached Amir.

"Can I help you?" The waiter was a brown-skinned human wrapped in a distinctive black-and-red headscarf.

"I'm looking for some information," Amir said. He was a bit surprised. The fact that someone offered help meant that there might be some "side businesses" here, which could lead to useful information.

"This way, please." The waiter clearly had experience with this and led Amir deeper into the bar.

Amir took his drink and followed the waiter into a room.

Upon entering, he saw a Togruta woman inside.

She was the same species as Ahsoka, with long Montral horns, red and white markings on her skin, and metal and tooth decorations hanging from her forehead.

"I am Gerita Berry, the owner of this place." She extended her hand and motioned for Amir to sit across from her.

"Amir, I would like to obtain some information from you."

"You've come to the right place. I have the latest and most comprehensive information about this star system." Gerita said with a smile.

Amir took a sip of juice and looked around, but he didn't see any bodyguards or other security measures.

He looked at the teeth hanging from Gerita's head.

"I heard that the best warriors among the Togruta hunt powerful Akk Dogs and take their teeth as trophies," he said.

"Haha," Gerita laughed lightly and touched the tooth on her forehead. "Yes, that was a long time ago, but this tooth is still my pride."

She didn't need bodyguards because she was a powerful warrior.

"You seem to know about us," Gerita said. "Us" referred to her race.

"I have a Togruta friend."

"Our people rarely venture out into the world. They prefer to stay with their tribe."

"Not you, right?"

"Haha, I enjoy traveling. Who wouldn't want to live with their tribe on a peaceful, prosperous planet?"

Most Togruta are born on Shili, a grassland planet that has endured many wars. During the Clone Wars, the Togruta were enslaved on a large scale.

"Of course, that's my dream." Amir wasn't lying. Traveling to beautiful, diverse planets was one thing, but wandering for survival was another.

"Although I like you, I won't lower the price for your information," Gerita laughed.

"Business is business," Amir smiled as well.

"I want to know about the ships that passed through here between two days ago and yesterday." Amir expanded the timeframe by one day.

"That's an enormous number. This isn't a famous star system, but there are still tens of thousands of large cargo ships passing through every day."

"The ship I'm looking for must have passed through Coruscant or departed from there."

Gerita sat up straight, glanced at her subordinate standing by the door, and closed it.

After a moment, she said, "The Faruk Star Zone doesn't seem as peaceful as it appears lately. I suspect the Empire is about to take action here."

"That's no secret. Most intelligence networks have already noticed."

"And there are military transport ships from Coruscant secretly bringing 'things' here."

She emphasized the word "things."

"If you're thinking of fighting the Empire, forget about it. There are already plenty of fools trying to steal the Empire's stuff. I don't want you to end up like them."

"No, I'm looking for someone. A friend of mine disappeared here."
