Amir launched rapid, multi-angled attacks at Obi-Wan, who consistently used the most efficient sword-wielding posture to deflect Amir's lightsaber.
Amir continuously familiarized himself with different sword-wielding postures and strengths during the battle while adapting to the feel of the lightsaber.
"You're learning quickly. It seems like your training has been very effective," Obi-Wan said.
When Amir first encountered training balls that could attack automatically, he intentionally used the first form of his lightsaber to block all the deflections.
Although his training in deflecting laser beams was incomplete, he had already become proficient in the movements of this form.
Now, in his actual combat with Obi-Wan, Amir fully experienced the differences in fighting with a lightsaber against a person. This led to further improvements in his swordplay.
"Observe my movements. This is the third form of lightsaber combat, Soresu, which emphasizes defense." Obi-Wan stepped back, repositioned himself, and signaled for Amir to attack again.
Amir focused his attention. The third form was perfect!
He had primarily come to learn how to protect himself, and the third form was the most defensive of all. Plus, it was the form that Obi-Wan had mastered best.
On the battlefield, blaster beams were the most unpredictable threat, and Soresu was the best way to counter them. They said that Obi-Wan could block twenty blaster beams per second.
Once Amir mastered the third form, he could use defense to slowly observe his opponent's weaknesses and find an opening to strike.
With this in mind, Amir began to observe and memorize Obi-Wan's movements while attacking.
He constantly changed angles, observing Obi-Wan's responses.
Obi-Wan cooperated by simply defending himself.
As the attack accelerated, he gradually closed the gaps in his lightsaber defense, leaving Amir with no openings to attack.
With no other choice, Amir resorted to the original principle of the first form—use brute force!
He charged and attempted a vertical strike, trying to force Obi-Wan to expose a weakness.
However, it seemed as if Obi-Wan had changed his technique. He redirected Amir's force to the side and pushed it back toward his body. Once Amir lost his balance, Obi-Wan began to counterattack with his lightsaber.
"The three forms are only for defense. They lack offensive capabilities. Over the years, I've integrated my experience with other sword forms into them, making them less monotonous."
Thus, Amir had to attack and guard against Obi-Wan's counterattacks.
At first, Amir was clumsy on the defensive, often having to dodge sudden attacks by quickly shifting his position. However, he soon began to predict Obi-Wan's attack trajectories and defend effectively.
In defense, Amir was using the same techniques as Obi-Wan's three forms.
"Are you predicting my attacks based on the movement of my limbs? Haha," Obi-Wan said, adjusting his stance again.
Originally, Amir could use the Force to sense Obi-Wan's movements and preliminary actions before he attacked. He analyzed Obi-Wan's limb movements to determine if he would counterattack after defending himself and estimated the direction of his sword strike.
This was a technique he had discovered long ago.
However, after Obi-Wan realized this, he switched to a sword style with very small movements to counter his own attacks.
This made it much harder for Amir to predict Obi-Wan's strikes, which were now faster and more aggressive.
"This is the second form. Of course, I've incorporated my own techniques into it."
"I see. You've added defense to the second form, which focuses on speed and offense. No wonder you survived Order 66!"
It wasn't until Obi-Wan began his attack, though, that Amir truly felt his power.
Every strike was aimed at weaknesses Amir had overlooked, causing goosebumps to rise on his arms from time to time.
. . .
After a period of friendly training, Amir collapsed beside the small hut, exhausted.
Obi-Wan sat beside him, also breathing heavily.
"Have you met Luke?" Obi-Wan suddenly asked.
"He's the boy who told me you lived here," Amir replied, recalling their earlier conversation about how he had found the place.
"He's a smart boy, just like his father," Obi-Wan said, as if the lightsaber training had awakened memories from the past.
"His father and I were like brothers," he explained. But he didn't elaborate. "I'm here to protect his children while they grow up."
"Who was his father?" Amir asked.
"He also had the last name Skywalker. He was Owen's half-brother and my apprentice. But," he paused, "he fell to the dark side."
"You are very talented, Amir. You are progressing faster than I ever did, or than anyone I've ever known. But power brings not only peace, but also desire and fear."
"When you begin to follow only your own thoughts and become stubborn and self-righteous or fall into worry and fear, you must sit down and meditate. For that is the beginning of falling to the dark side."
Amir nodded in response.
He knew Anakin's life story.
Born on Tatooine, this boy joined the Jedi Order and followed Obi-Wan on countless missions, proving his talent by making rapid progress in just a few years.
Obi-Wan's master, Qui-Gon Jinn, believed Anakin was the Chosen One who could bring balance to the Force.
This belief was also deeply rooted in Obi-Wan's consciousness.
However, Anakin was too young, and his talent had allowed him to succeed without facing many challenges.
Before the Clone Wars erupted, he saw Padmé Amidala, the Naboo senator he had always longed for. Despite the Jedi Order's prohibition on romantic relationships, he couldn't control his feelings for her.
At that moment, he had a vision of the Force in his dreams.
He saw his mother, whom he had not seen in years, suffering.
Driven by desperation, he rushed back to Tatooine. After searching, he found his mother in the camp of the Tusken Raiders, on the brink of death.
She died in his arms.
The darkness in his heart was impossible to suppress, and anger overwhelmed his reason.
He slaughtered the entire Tusken Raider tribe, including women and children.
This experience made Anakin feel the pain of losing a loved one for the first time and planted the seeds of fear deep within his heart.
These seeds fully sprouted after he had another Force vision in a dream.
By then, he was in love with Padmé, who was pregnant with his child.
It was the happiest moment of his life, but he immediately foresaw Padmé dying in childbirth.
Fear took root completely.
He first sought help from the Jedi Order, but they all gave him the same answer: to accept the process, which had always been the Jedi Order's philosophy.
But how could Anakin, who had already endured the pain of losing his mother, accept such an outcome?
When he lost his mother, he vowed to become stronger—strong enough to protect everything and overcome death.
At this point, Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord and Anakin's friend, offered him the dark side of the Force:
He offered him the power to bring the dead back to life.
