Kelly leaned by the city walls, silently watching scores of people cautiously walk into the forest. It was daytime already, light filtering down from the sky and bathing the city in brilliance. But the forest beyond was dim, almost as if night and day made no difference to it.
The faint sounds of eerie giggles and distant, monstrous growls made the fear-inducing forest even more frightening, as if those sounds were only a warning about the true horrors hidden in its depths.
It might as well have been whispering—saying words that had everyone's limbs shaking with dread. I dare you… to come and die!
"Legend says that the ghosts and horrors beyond us are simply the grieving souls of those from the City of Xanthros who died with so much hatred," Rowan's voice sounded from a few meters beside her.
Kelly looked at him, raising an eyebrow imperceptibly. "The city of Xanthros?"
