Since Kelly had been exposed to the wider universe and seen so many things nobody in her realm had any business getting involved with, she'd thought there were very few things left that could unsettle or unnerve her, or at the very least make her body tremble with dread or cause even a tiny ripple in her very cold heart.
Only that right now, she could feel her entire body alive with an emotion she was familiar with… but never thought she'd feel again, much less this soon.
It wasn't fear.
It was something worse—something much more brutal, much stronger.
Kelly felt terror.
The feeling crushed her chest, burning from the inside, her heart hammering so loudly it made her limbs tremble. She struggled to walk straight without her shaking knees giving out and slamming into the ground.
Maybe it was because the last time she'd been here, the forest was too dark, so she couldn't really see what actually lived in its depths.
Maybe if she had… she wouldn't have come here.
