Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Island That Should Not Exist

A blinding flash enveloped Kael's light-form as reality twisted around him. Sensations flooded back—skin, bones, breath. He blinked open his eyes, feeling... small. Compact. His hands resembled those of a tiny bear cub, and small horns poked out from his messy black hair, tipped with white.

He was in a modest wooden shack by the sea, the air salty and fresh, with waves crashing nearby. An East Blue island—random, yet full of potential. He was eight years old, a hybrid child holding legendary power within.

"What the hell... Am I a kid? But this body... It's mine." He flexed his fingers, feeling a surge of strength beyond any child's.

Kael repeatedly called for his system to no response.

Before he could think further, the door to his room swung open in a blur of orange and blue.

Kael was stunned to see Nami and Nojiko.

They both hit arms and spoke in unison. "You big meanie, we were worried about you."

Kael barely felt it.

He was shocked when they called Raen D. Kael.

While they were talking, his parents entered his room.

His mother, a fierce Oni named Bekka, scooped him into a hug. She towered at seven meters, her long silver hair streaming behind her like a storm in motion. Sharp golden horns curved from her forehead. Her body showed the hardened strength of someone who had spent years wielding a massive broadsword. Her eyes were as sharp as blades, softened only for her family. "My baby boy is finally awake."

His father, a bear of a man named Raen D. Bjorn, followed behind his wife. Broad-shouldered like an ancient mountain, his many scars testified to his resilience. "You can put him down, Bekka. The boy is stronger than both of us combined."

Bjorn's voice boomed. "My son, you can't worry, Princess Nami. Do you know she refused to eat until you woke up?"

Nami's face turned bright red with embarrassment.

Bjorn and Bekka left them alone as they returned to their duties.

Kael looked at Nami with shock after learning she was a princess.

He sat on the edge of his bed, absorbing every word as Nami and Nojiko explained.

The island was called Aetheron.

An uncharted dot in the East Blue, deliberately kept off most maps. Its people were navigators, cartographers, and weather readers—studying wind patterns, currents, and pressure systems. Not Devil Fruits. Not Haki.

Weather itself.

Nami was the island's princess. Her parents ruled quietly, valuing secrecy over power. Kael's parents and Nojiko's family served as personal guards, sworn to protect not just out of duty but out of belief.

Weeks passed.

Kael trained quietly, running the shoreline, lifting stones, feeling the terrifying ease with which his body responded. He watched his mother practice her blade—each swing clean and lethal. He recognized his father's strength in himself—the deep-rooted resilience of the Buccaneer bloodline.

Still, his system did not respond.

The first shadow appeared when a Marine ship arrived.

Not a fleet, just one.

An envoy.

A man in pristine armor stepped onto the docks, his presence cold and heavy. He didn't introduce himself. He didn't need to.

A Holy Knight.

He toured the island in silence, eyes lingering on charts, instruments, and devices that predicted storms days in advance.

"This research," he finally said, "will be submitted to the World Government. Tribute will be expected."

No one spoke.

When he left, the air felt wrong.

Nami appeared downcast after the Holy Knight's departure. Bjorn comforted the children, promising to defend their home and the princess, hinting at the island's ties with the Revolutionary Army.

Normalcy returned briefly. Kael sharpened his body, strengthened bonds with Nami and Nojiko, yet every attempt to awaken his system failed. A suspicion gnawed at him: maybe the system needed a catalyst—or something dangerous.

Recognizing his father's Buccaneer traits within himself, he felt a renewed bond with his hybrid identity. Watching Bekka wield her blade with effortless mastery deepened his admiration.

But peace didn't last. Chaos erupted when a Marine fleet arrived, carrying Holy Knights and Celestial Dragons. They declared the island a battleground for their hunt, reminiscent of God Valley, targeting villagers as prey.

Among the Marines was a young Bellemere, reluctant to aid in killing civilians and questioning whether this was true justice. Her superior officer told her to shut up and follow orders.

Monkey D. Dragon received word of the attack through Revolutionary channels and rushed there with core members like Kuma and Ivankov.

Sengoku contacted Garp, ordering him to intercept Dragon; Garp grumbled about the Celestial Dragons' hunts, cutting his vacation short and signaling Bogard to prepare the ship, musing if it would be as crazy as God Valley.

Upon arrival, the island was ablaze with chaos; Dragon confronted Garp. His voice thundered as he questioned, "Is this the justice he fights to protect? One that allows humans to be killed for sport."

Garp had no response, knowing his son was right but also knowing the Marines needed him to protect the recruits—to prevent them from turning out like Akainu.

Hidden within a collapsed storehouse with Nami and Nojiko, Kael desperately tried to activate his system amid screams. His thoughts were interrupted when a Holy Knight spotted Bekka. Callahan eyed her with lust, licking his lips. "You will make a perfect addition to my collection. Drop your broad sword and accept your fate."

This ignited Kael's rage. Callahan observed Kael's features. "Oh, what a rare specimen, an Oni Buccaneer hybrid. You'll make a fine plaything."

Bjorn charged in with an armament haki-infused claw slash.

Using the power of Kuma Kuma no Mi, Model Black Bear, Bjorn faced Callahan. "Son, take Princess Nami and Nojiko and get out of here. Don't worry, your mother and I will be fine."

They had just begun to move when a Celestial Dragon's attention snapped toward Kael's hybrid form.

"Aye, someone stop that boy; he will make a good plaything."

Kael managed to overpower the guards of the Celestial Dragon but was left scarred.

Before he could attack the Celestial Dragon, a group of Marines surrounded him.

"Stand down, kid."

Kael snickered. "Is this how Marines act, attacking children?"

A young Bellemere arrived, turning her weapon on the other Marines. "Why are you raising your guns at children?"

Her commander barked, "Stand down, Bellemere. These kids tried to attack a Celestial Dragon."

A booming voice chuckled, "Damn, Celestial Dragons still as vile as ever."

Garp cracked his knuckles and approached steadily. "Bellemere, take the girls and head to my ship."

The Marines and Bellemere looked on in awe. "Vice admiral, what about the boy?"

Garp let out a thunderous laugh. "I would like to see who dares to touch my new grandson."

Kael looked up with confusion. "Old man, who are you calling, grandson?"

Garp knocked out Kael with a fist of love and carried him back onto his ship.

As they boarded, Bellemere told Garp she was quitting the Marines; she refused to serve an organization that hunts children.

Garp nodded in understanding.
