Alex stepped out of the washroom after a quick shower, now fully dressed again. His hair was still slightly damp, and the lingering heat of the earlier hours had settled into a calm, satisfied ease.
He started walking back toward Victoria's office.
When he reached Margaret's desk, it was empty.
A faint smile touched his lips as he continued forward and pushed the office door open.
Inside, the room looked almost normal again.
Victoria was already seated at her usual place behind the desk. She had washed up and changed, her appearance neat and composed once more, as if the earlier chaos had never happened. Margaret stood beside the desk, helping put the last of the files back in order.
The moment Margaret noticed him, a faint pink rose across her cheeks. She quickly looked down at the papers in her hands, pretending to focus on them.
Alex's gaze moved across the room.
