Chapter 129 - Alfa's burden.

Alfa was sitting in the hall room thinking about what had happened. Michelle had visited unexpectedly, and when Ronald had mindlinked him of her arrival, he had become excited that she might have brought some great news that couldn't wait.

He had always dreaded this moment. He could still remember the three year old pup's scream that led him to that tree she was under, trembling with fear, as Grayson turned towards her, ready to pounce...

"Alpha," Trevor said, bringing him back to the present. "I gave her your message, and she has left. The rain is too heavy... can't someone drop her...."

Alfa stood up so suddenly that Trevor swallowed the next few words and lowered his eyes.

"Trev, if someone from this pack goes to drop her off, dont you think Rodriguez will know? I don't want that bastard finding out about her reality... not until Aria gets back here!" He said, staring at his gamma.

"Yes, Alpha." Trevor turned around and left without another word.

Every question he wanted to ask him dissolved within his throat. Alfa had lied to the girl he practically raised, and something about her suspicion made him think, was he different from his father? After all, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

"You know, Alfa, your reaction today was totally uncalled for!" It was Ronald who spoke up. "You could have told her what you told her years ago... Grayson was badly injured, and you killed him with a hunting knife that you always carried. You losing control like that was not only wrong, but now you've planted the seed of doubt in her, and if she ever finds out that you..."

"ENOUGH!!!" Alfa's roar was so loud that Ronald fell on his knees, hiding his head in his arms. "It's your job to make sure that she does not, ever, find out!"

"Ye...yes... alpha," Ronald whispered, still shaking with fear.

Although they were best friends from when they were in diapers, Ronald knew when his alpha was feeling threatened or disrespected, and he knew that though the human parts are besties, the wolfs were a different story altogether.

Braxen and Azan may be fond of each other, but Braxen is very dominant. He will tear any other wolf who he sees as challenging his authority. Be it Ronald, his mother, or even his father.

It was only when Alfa had walked out of the hall and headed towards his room that Ronald finally got up. He got out of there and into his house, which was beside the pack house, and ran to his room.

To his surprise, Gretchen was in bed, and she was just as surprised to see him.

"I thought you would be at the clinic!" He said as he took off his shirt.

"Well, Brenda said she'll be able to work tonight unsupervised, so I took the night off," the grey eyed woman replied. "How 'bout you? You said you'd be late," she added.

"Don't ask! I think Alfa is suffering too much..."

He went on to explain what happened, and Gretchen listened, half shocked, half concerned.

"You know honey, I think maybe we could go to our Luna and talk to her. Who knows, we might be able to convince her to return," she said at last.

"Not without the alphas permission we can not!" The grey eyed short man said.

"The pups are sleeping, and Gerald is out with friends. You know I can get that tension to leave you, if you allow me to..." Gretchen said, looking at her mate seductively while playing with his chest hair.

"You know baby, if you keep doing that, the little guy would wake up..." Ronald said.

"I want him to wake up..."

***

As Alfa lay in bed, the images of that day ran through his mind like a movie reel. The three year old screaming and Grayson, with one eye injured, turning to the pup...

He had lied to everyone, even his parents. It was true that he had saved Michelle from dying, but the truth was far more painful than he would admit it to be.

Grayson was still alive, and if Michelle ever found him, she'll know that he lied to her.

He tried to think of other things... Yalandro was in hospital, and Marius was too shocked to do any work. Yes, Yalandro's wound had healed, but his mental state was not good.

Both his spys had come face to face with death and still survived, but they had both lost something... their confidence.

Both were trained as spy agents in the werewolf world... to get in, collect data, and get out. They were never trained in battle. Hence, they had to run for dear life.

Alfa was just glad that they were both fine and alive, for it would be very difficult for him to find another unscented wolf.

These are rare werewolves who are born without the specific scent that tells others that he or she is a wolf. They are so rare that only about ten have been recorded in the millions of wolves across the world. Or it could be that more are out there, but they couldn't sniff them out.

Sleep didn't come easily for Alfa, and when he did sleep, he had nightmares of the night the Wolfpaw pack got attacked.

The screams and the stink of burned bodied still lingered within him. The sight of pups killed, and women dragged into the cages his father had taken with him, for his prizes still haunted him.

His father was a monster in every sense, but what he did that night... did that make him a monster, too?

The Wolfpaw pack was once a thriving pack that lived solely on the belief that every living thing deserves life. Now, only one member of their pack remains, Michelle, and she should never get to the truth, or Hazelwitch's reading of the future of Moonsglow pack will definitely come true.

If Michelle ever finds out the power that lies within her, she could use it to destroy everything.

Just so long as Rodriguez doesn't mark her, he won't share what's hers. He has to make sure that these mate pair stay separated at all costs, or he and his pack are doomed.
