After finishing their cultivation, Oscar and Dugu Yan concealed their presence as usual and quietly entered the interior of the slaughterhouse.
The two of them skillfully made their way into the secret chamber, each sitting on a cushion before releasing their external soul bones to absorb and refine soul power.
In just half a year, their soul power had risen from level sixty-two to sixty-seven. Such a tremendous improvement made them both very happy. It would not be long before they could break through level seventy. Once they left the City of Slaughter, they would be able to directly obtain their seventh spirit ring.
However, today was somewhat unusual. Not a single one of the seven of the Mad Blade King appeared. Normally, even if not all seven showed up, at least some of them would be cultivating here. Today though, not a single person was seen.
Oscar and Dugu Yan did not care about this since outsiders could not affect their progress.
Beneath the secret chamber, the seven of the Mad Blade King were kneeling respectfully in front of the statue of the Rakshasa God. Suddenly, Green Snake raised her head, looking at the stone ceiling as if her gaze could pierce through the heavy slabs and see the outside world.
"They are here."
The other six, upon hearing Green Snake speak, all curved their lips into twisted, mocking smiles.
"They have been raised long enough. It is time they pay their due," said the Mad Blade King with a grim face.
The others had blood-red light flickering in their eyes. Evil Dragon King said, "After half a year of waiting, today we shall use their blood to open the Rakshasa God's inheritance. Let them become the first step for us to leave this place."
The Spider King licked his blood-red lips. "By the will of Rakshasa, we begin the trial with a blood sacrifice. We shall inherit Rakshasa's will and rule the entire City of Slaughter."
The seven looked like the most devout of believers, each muttering incantations. Unfortunately, Oscar and Dugu Yan above could not sense anything happening underground, as a special force isolated everything.
The Mad Blade King and the others were originally vicious, evil, and depraved individuals who had entered the City of Slaughter simply to survive. Normally they would have followed the city's rules, sinking into corruption until they vanished and became part of the city itself.
But at some unknown time, they were drawn by a strange power and all gathered here. At first, they only discovered the secret chamber. Those who had nearly been overwhelmed by the city's brutal aura gradually stabilized after cultivating inside.
Eventually, after they completely merged with the aura of the secret chamber, it was as though an unfamiliar fragment of soul consciousness appeared within them.
Perhaps they themselves never noticed, but unconsciously they were influenced until they became devotees of the Rakshasa God.
After becoming believers, guided by a strange memory within their minds, they opened the underground space and discovered the Rakshasa statue enshrined there.
Under that mysterious influence, they began to collect blood and pour it into the statue. When a certain threshold was met, the Rakshasa God would open its inheritance, also known as the divine trial.
When Oscar and Dugu Yan arrived, that strange fragment of thought in their minds told them, gave them the intuition, that if they sacrificed the two by throwing all their blood, bones, flesh, and skin into the blood pool, the Rakshasa God would send down divine orders and grant them transcendent power.
Still, they retained human reasoning and understood that cultivators like Oscar and Dugu Yan must have hidden trump cards. So they spent half a year planning and thoroughly investigating the two.
Today, they were finally ready. They would sacrifice the pair to the noble Rakshasa God and begin the divine trial.
As Oscar and Dugu Yan focused on cultivation, they suddenly sensed the surrounding soul power thinning. This was the first time such a thing had happened in half a year.
In the blink of an eye, they both opened their eyes at once. They exchanged a glance, seeing confusion in each other's eyes. Clearly, this was something they had not anticipated.
The next moment, waves of terrifying pressure descended upon the chamber. Then the floor by the wall opened, revealing a massive underground gate. A terrifying force pulled at the two of them.
Oscar and Dugu Yan glanced at each other. Instead of fleeing, scarlet light burst from their eyes just like the seven of the Mad Blade King. They flashed forward and rushed straight toward the gate, as if something inside was calling them.
They charged in one after the other, no longer showing their usual harmony, as if whoever was slower would lose everything inside to the other.
The two sped down the stone steps and soon entered a space about as large as the secret chamber. At its far end was a massive blood pool. In its center stood a grand and imposing statue of a woman. At this moment, the statue's eyes glowed scarlet.
Before the statue knelt the seven in devotion. When Oscar and Dugu Yan entered, the seven stood and turned to face them.
Scarlet light flickered in their pupils as well, but not as intense as that within Oscar and Dugu Yan.
It was as though the seven were influenced but not addicted, while Oscar and Dugu Yan had already fallen deep, unable to escape.
Still with blood-red eyes, Oscar and Dugu Yan rushed straight toward the statue, seemingly ignoring the seven.
That short hundred meters felt unbearably long as they charged.
The Mad Blade King looked at the rushing man and woman, lips curling upward. "Look at them. They too crave Rakshasa's power. It is a pity though. They are too greedy. In just half a year, they absorbed power endlessly. They are already the most devout believers of Rakshasa. Even if asked to die, they would not hesitate."
Green Snake covered her mouth and laughed softly. "Is that not because you deceived them? Talking about how many levels they could rise in just a few years. It was only to fuel their greed, to make them madly absorb this power."
Evil Dragon King's throat moved as he stared at Dugu Yan's graceful figure. "There is still an hour before the blood sacrifice begins. Why not let me taste this little beauty first?"
The Mad Blade King snorted coldly. "Evil Dragon, do not cause trouble."
The others also disapproved of his idea. After all, the process of the blood sacrifice had to be flawless. Oscar and Dugu Yan were nothing more than the keys to starting it.
They had to make sure no one else interfered until the sacrifice was complete.
Oscar and Dugu Yan were fast. The hundred meters were covered almost instantly.
Fifty meters. Thirty meters. Ten meters. Five meters…
The seven only stepped aside, leaving a path wide enough for Oscar and Dugu Yan to pass. They calmly watched the pair rush toward the Rakshasa statue, as if they would meet their end before it themselves.
