Chapter 166 - Movements

Inside a vast underground cavern, Winston leaned against a pile of dry straw. He still maintained his lizardman form, but his abdomen was now much more swollen than before.Faint yellow light flickered within it — from the eggs in the gestation sac.The light reflected from them was so intense that it penetrated layers of flesh and scales.

Winston could clearly feel the rhythm of life pulsing from within the sac.Even though these were unborn lives, they still radiated a terrifying, instinctive pressure — the kind that could make one's heart tremble.

This overwhelming sense of dominance at the top of the food chain even surpassed Norman Osborn's.

Their bloodline was closer to Godzilla's than his.If they were allowed to mature, they would undoubtedly become beings far stronger than Norman Osborn himself.

Unfortunately, they would never have that chance.

If Winston wanted to lay these eggs, he would need to consume vast amounts of radioactive material to supply them with energy. But if the goal was merely to extract serum, that wasn't necessary — all he had to do was cut open his abdomen and remove the eggs.

With Winston's regenerative ability, that was no more than a minor operation.

In the pitch-black darkness, even with Winston's night vision, he could only make out the rough outline of Norman Osborn's massive form.

"To produce the serum, I need professional biochemical equipment.According to my research, the University of Tokyo has the instruments I need.I want you to draw the attention of the JSDF and S.H.I.E.L.D. outside — create a diversion so I can get away."

He buried his killing intent deep inside, intending to wait until he had injected himself with the Godzilla serum — until he had gained the strength to fight Norman Osborn — before settling the humiliation he had endured.

He had already tricked Dr. Rada into revealing the serum's preparation method. It might take geniuses to develop the formula, but once the formula was known, anyone with basic laboratory training could produce the serum.

Now Winston fully understood that back in New York, those two girls had been playing him for a fool.

"No need for all that trouble," Norman Osborn's thunderous voice rumbled through the cavern."I'll take you with me — we'll break through the blockade and reach Kyoto University directly."

In Osborn's mind, Winston was not to be trusted at all. There was every chance he'd steal the serum and run.

Osborn had Winston hide between the sharp dorsal fins on his back. Then, with his twin claws, he tore through the soil ahead and raced toward the coast. In water, Godzilla's speed far exceeded his movement underground, and he could no longer wait to perfect his genetic evolution.

At the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, seismic sensors immediately detected underground movement. At first, they thought it was merely Godzilla's usual restlessness and didn't take it seriously — until they realized he was charging straight toward the ocean.

The entire fleet went into chaos like a nest of startled hornets.

The devastating battle from some time ago had left the entire Seventh Fleet — and U.S. Forces Japan commander Angelella — with a deeply ingrained fear of Godzilla's power.

"The coastal seismic monitors have lost Godzilla's signal — he's entered the sea!"

On the operations display, Godzilla's trajectory was marked out — an almost perfectly straight line leading into the ocean.

"What is he doing? Heading back to America?"

Nick Fury shot to his feet. For once, his face no longer wore that usual calm, calculating expression — the one that suggested he was always in control.

The Titan was still en route to Japan. If Norman Osborn returned to U.S. territory now, there would be no force at home capable of stopping him.

The Titan Project had consumed an astronomical budget.Even as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury had struggled to push it through — barely managing to silence the opposition. If the Titan, built with massive public funds, ended up circling uselessly in the ocean while Godzilla attacked the homeland…then Nick Fury's career as Director would be finished.

Destroyers and anti-submarine helicopters from the USS George Washington scrambled into the air like a flock of frightened crows, deploying sonar buoys along the path where Godzilla had entered the sea.

The fleet immediately began evasive maneuvers. The commander's heart was pounding so hard he feared it might burst — terrified of encountering Godzilla head-on.

Once dropped, the sonar buoys automatically extended antennas above the surface while the base arrays sank below, activating via battery power.

Bang!

A sharp underwater thud echoed — the sound of the sonar pings spreading rapidly through the seawater.A dense cluster of buoys filled the ocean floor with constant noise and movement.

Before long, even Japan's P-1 anti-submarine patrol planes took off from their bases, scouring the waters in search of Godzilla's trail.

The blade-shaped antennas beneath their fuselages received all sonar signals from the buoys floating on the sea.

The thunderous rumble of Norman Osborn's movement underwater sounded like a roaring freight train — impossible to conceal from sonar arrays designed to hunt nuclear submarines. But his speed was simply too great. In just a few moments, he had already moved beyond the sonar detection range — like a phantom in the deep.

Beneath the fleet, the two Virginia-class attack submarines — USS Mississippi and USS North Dakota — couldn't even begin to keep up.They had only just accelerated when Osborn left them far behind.

On the operations display, his signal appeared only intermittently within sonar range. His speed was faster than that of the anti-submarine helicopters flying above the ocean.Sonar buoys capable of detecting him were becoming fewer and fewer.

"He's heading north," Nick Fury said sharply.

"Alert the JSDF units stationed near every northern nuclear power plant — raise their alert level immediately."

His first assumption was that Norman Osborn had fully absorbed the reactor core he'd devoured at Fukushima and was now targeting other plants. But S.H.I.E.L.D. had already anticipated that possibility and taken precautions.

Across Japan, every nuclear power plant had been cleared of its fuel rods — consolidated and stored together in a single, top-secret location known only to a select few.

Osborn was destined to find nothing this time.

Suddenly, a military officer exclaimed in alarm.Though both the anti-submarine helicopters and patrol planes had lost track of Osborn, a Cold War–era fixed low-frequency undersea sonar array had just picked up his location again.

"His target isn't a nuclear plant… it's Tokyo! According to the undersea sonar signals… he's already entered Tokyo Bay!"

"What?!"

The Japanese representatives in the command room turned pale with shock.Their legs nearly gave out beneath them.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Area was Japan's political, economic, and cultural heart. If it were to be destroyed, they would never escape responsibility.
