Vanessa was anxious, using a towel to wipe Wade Wilson's forehead, trying to relieve his pain. He had been suffering for more than twenty minutes, and the hospital sheets were nearly torn apart.
He looked pale, like a drowning man, his body wracked with intense pain that nearly drained all his strength, making even breathing difficult.
"What's going on, Professor Connors?"
Broly could sense that Wade's energy was nearing its limit. Without immediate intervention, he could very well die from the pain itself.
Professor Connors kept his eyes fixed on the bedside monitor, analyzing the heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and blood pressure. After being injected with the serum, Wade's vital signs fluctuated violently.
If he weren't physically strong, he would have already passed away—but even so, he couldn't hold on for long.
Wade's reaction to the serum was far more extreme than the lab test subjects. Normally, subjects experienced initial intense pain, which quickly subsided, and the cancer cells gradually disappeared over time.
But Wade's pain was prolonged and severe—a reaction never seen in any other test subject.
"It's because the cancer cells in his body are too strong. The anti-cancer genes in the serum are insufficient to eliminate them. I can inject an antidote to neutralize the anti-cancer genes already embedded, but his cancer cells will become even harder to treat after this procedure," Professor Connors explained.
"I… I can endure… I don't need… the antidote…"
To prevent him from biting his tongue, a bite block was placed in Wade's mouth. He spoke each word with effort, making his decision clear.
"Wade!"
Vanessa hugged his head, crying loudly.
Broly hesitated for a moment.
"Perhaps there's another way."
He pulled a small vial from his pocket and opened it. A wisp of smoke appeared, and then Gluttony—a strange, monstrous entity—materialized in the room.
Being sealed in the tiny vial had clearly been uncomfortable. Gluttony, upon appearing, crouched on the floor, whimpering in a pitiful, appeasing way. It didn't want to be trapped in the bottle again.
"What is that thing?" Even half-dead on the bed, Wade was startled by Gluttony's bizarre appearance. "A genie alien?"
Despite being in agony, Wade felt a strangely familiar connection to Gluttony—an utterly unsettling feeling.
"He was cultivated from your cancer cells," Broly casually replied.
Wade started to curse but stopped midway, seeing Broly's massive biceps. Even Wade, who often acted recklessly, had to restrain himself.
"Gluttony, suppress the counterparts in his body," Broly ordered via telepathy.
Earlier experiments had shown that Gluttony could manipulate tissues even separated from its main body. The cancer cells in Wade shared the same origin as Gluttony; although mutated, Gluttony could still potentially suppress them.
Gluttony examined Wade with strange eyes and reluctantly nodded. Its mercury-like body flowed across the floor and engulfed Wade on the bed.
"Oh… oh!"
Wade weakly struggled, terrified, feeling as if he were being swallowed by water.
Vanessa was horrified; it looked like a scene straight out of a horror movie.
Soon, Gluttony had completely engulfed Wade. Beneath its squirming black gel body, the outlines of his hands and feet occasionally appeared, accompanied by muffled cries. Wade was clearly uncomfortable being inside the monster.
"Calm down, Wade. If you get digested, I'll avenge you," Broly said, aiming carefully and delivering a palm strike that knocked Wade unconscious. Intense resistance would make it harder for Gluttony to suppress the cancer cells.
Gluttony entered Wade's body through his orifices. Though sharing a common origin with Wade's cancer cells, after Broly's preparation, the two were very different. Once inside, Gluttony was attacked by both the anti-cancer genes and the cancer cells.
But Gluttony's energy far exceeded theirs, effortlessly resisting their attacks and sweeping through the cancer cells with overwhelming force.
The cancer cells had no chance. As a being evolved from cancer cells, Gluttony could easily identify and eradicate the hidden cells.
During this process, Gluttony's body shrank as it penetrated Wade's body. Soon, the black gel receded, revealing Wade's unconscious body, which convulsed involuntarily, his chest and abdomen heaving violently.
Vanessa covered her mouth in horror. Everything she believed about the world shattered before her eyes, and only her concern for Wade kept her rational.
Soon, the black gel shot out from Wade like a full-opened water hose, reforming into Gluttony's body.
Broly frowned, thinking Gluttony would need a good wash afterward. He communicated with Gluttony telepathically to check Wade's condition. Telepathy was far more efficient than words; Broly immediately knew the situation.
"The large tumors in Wade's body have all been eliminated. There may still be a few remaining cancer cells deep within the organs. Even Gluttony cannot fully eradicate them."
"It's fine. A small number of cells can be suppressed by the anti-cancer genes. Wade's cancer can now be considered cured," Professor Connors concluded after careful consideration.
Vanessa, who had been nervously wringing her hands, finally wept with joy. Her energy had nearly been drained by Wade's cancer, and now she could breathe again.
Not long after, Wade slowly awoke from unconsciousness. His eyes were wide, bloodshot, and full of terror.
"Tell me what happened… why does my ass hurt so much?"
