Amid the piercing noise unique to a gas turbine, a Type 16 Maneuver Combat Vehicle belonging to the Self-Defense Forces moved along the river. Several fully armed soldiers sat atop the vehicle, vigilantly scanning the calm waters. In the distance, several helicopters flew low, dropping sonar devices into the river.
These SDF units had been assigned to this river section to hunt down Norman Osborn and Winston Johnson, who had escaped into the water. Fixed underwater sonar arrays and attack submarines in Tokyo Bay had not detected Godzilla's signature, nor had seismic monitors recorded the unique vibrations created by Godzilla burrowing. They were likely still lingering in the river.
The Japanese side could not tolerate such extremely dangerous creatures remaining in the heart of Tokyo. Battles between Godzilla and the Titans had almost immediately plummeted the prime minister's approval rating.
The evacuated citizens could not stay away for long either.
A Titan's enormous body knelt partially within the campus of the University of Tokyo, still towering like a mountain. Spots of fire remained on its body, stubbornly burning. Three fire trucks sprayed high-pressure water to extinguish the flames.
Steam rose with a harsh sizzling sound.
The gelatinous substance spewed by Winston Johnson proved unexpectedly persistent and difficult to handle, continuing to burn even under the water spray. The Titan could not be repaired until the flames were completely extinguished.
Steve Rogers sat on a nearby lawn. The battle between the Titan and Norman Osborn had almost destroyed all nearby structures, permanently altering the terrain. Only this patch of grass had survived.
Piloting the Titan had put immense stress on his nervous system. Even now, his hands trembled slightly, unable to twist open a water bottle cap.
Tony Stark approached, took the bottle, opened it, and handed it back to him.
"This is my fault. I let them escape."
Steve felt guilty. S.H.I.E.L.D. had invested massive resources in this operation, mobilizing fully to eliminate the unstable factors that were Norman Osborn and Winston Johnson. The failure of the mission would put enormous pressure on Nick Fury.
With their destructive power, more victims were inevitable.
Tony Stark coughed several times, fatigued. While pursuing the two fleeing from the river, Norman Osborn—recently recovered—had whipped his tail violently. Even with MK2's buffering, it had broken one of Tony's ribs.
"This isn't entirely your fault. Without situational awareness, the Titan loses most of its combat effectiveness. We still have a chance—they're trapped in nearby water channels. They can't escape the hunt."
When designing the Titan, Tony had not considered Winston Johnson's abilities.
Looking at the Titan, Tony realized he had underestimated Godzilla's defenses. Conventional weapons like the chain sword could not harm him, and the plasma pulse cannon was also ineffective. Its instantaneous output was insufficient, only capable of suppression, not a decisive strike.

Broly entered Wade's hospital room alongside Professor Connors. Not long after the last infusion, Wade's complexion was surprisingly good, even after a major surgery. The surgical incision had healed well.
However, his cancer embryonic antigen levels climbed nearly every day, with cancer cells dividing at an abnormally fast rate.
Vanessa looked at Professor Connors with a puzzled expression.
Connors' identity still needed discretion, so he wore a hood that shaded most of his face.
"Wade, I brought a serum that may cure your cancer. But there is a small chance it could transform you into a monster. Whether you choose to inject it is up to you."
Broly handed the decision to Wade.
Wade almost didn't hesitate. He had seen his recent CT scans—the tumor had reappeared in his abdominal cavity. He felt like a drowning man clinging desperately to a straw; he would grasp at any chance, no matter how slim.
Even a small chance of turning into a monster was acceptable. Even a high chance, he would risk it.
Professor Connors shrugged, opened a refrigerated box, removed the serum, uncovered Wade's torso, and injected it directly into his chest cavity.
Since Wade's tumors were concentrated in his chest, this method allowed the anti-cancer genes in the serum to integrate faster with the surrounding cells of the cancerous tissue.
"How do you feel?"
Vanessa twisted her hands anxiously. She had been tortured by Wade's illness over this time.
"Hmm… nothing much… just a bit cold…"
Wade carefully sensed the changes within his body and clicked his tongue.
"Not immediate. It will take about ten minutes for the anti-cancer genes to integrate into your cells. It will take even longer for them to start producing proteins," Professor Connors explained, pulling up a chair to sit beside Wade.
Wade was essentially the first clinical test subject for the serum, prepared for long-term observation.
Broly vigilantly monitored Wade's aura, ready to suppress any abnormal transformation that might occur under the serum's influence.
About half an hour later, the previously normal Wade suddenly let out a scream, clutching his chest in agony.
"Wade! Wade! What's happening? Don't scare me! Call a doctor, quickly!"
Vanessa panicked, reaching for the call button, but Professor Connors stopped her.
Wade gasped violently, feeling a tearing pain as if something were trying to force its way out of his body. Even with his strong will, he writhed in pain, veins bulging on his forehead, cold sweat soaking the sheets.
His body temperature rose rapidly; his face turned as red as a boiled shrimp.
Professor Connors explained:
"This is the anti-cancer gene in his body killing the cancer cells."
Laboratory test subjects had shown similar symptoms, but none this extreme. Professor Connors judged that Wade's cancer cells, having absorbed Broly's energy multiple times, had become far more resilient than ordinary cancer cells.
