The Mihama Nuclear Power Plant, located in Mihama Town, Mikata District, Fukui Prefecture, was built in the 1970s and is one of Japan's highest-output nuclear power stations.
Following the Fukushima disaster, Japan had shut down most of its 54 nuclear plants, with only nine reactors approved for restart. Mihama, equipped with a relatively safer pressurized water reactor, was among these nine.
Despite strong opposition from local residents, the plant was restarted under heavy pressure to ensure power supply to the Tokyo metropolitan area.
At this moment, a joint task force of the Self-Defense Forces and S.H.I.E.L.D. was stationed outside the plant, prepared for a possible attack from Godzilla.
Bob Iger, maintaining his Lizardman form, wore a custom MK2 power armor designed by Tony Stark for his body. He perched atop the turret of a Type 90 main battle tank, drawing the curious and envious gazes of everyone around.
The tank's main gun, a Rheinmetall Rh120 120mm L/44 smoothbore cannon, could penetrate the frontal armor of most modern MBTs. Unfortunately, against Godzilla, its shells were merely a nuisance.
"I just don't get these Jap—this plant is still running. Don't they know the fuel rods will attract Winston's monster?"
Bob complained. As a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, he was familiar with many details from the Tokyo incidents. S.H.I.E.L.D. had analyzed the remains of lab instruments and concluded that Winston and Norman Osborn had completed their genetic "supplementation," and were now ravenously seeking sustenance.
Nick Fury had repeatedly tried to negotiate shutting down all Japanese nuclear plants, centralizing the fuel for Titan oversight. But the notoriously obstinate Japanese bureaucracy had resisted, even refusing some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s requests to assist in guarding the plant.
To bureaucrats, disasters like Godzilla were manageable—even with casualties, a few bows at a press conference would suffice. But shutting down Tokyo's power supply would cripple the economy, and the responsible conglomerates could hold even a seasoned Prime Minister accountable.
Bob knew his limits. Even in MK2 armor, he had no chance against Godzilla. As a veteran sniper, he had already studied the terrain, plotted escape routes, and prepared excuses for retreat.
Faced with a monster like Godzilla, taking a few shots before fleeing was already more than enough compensation for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s salary.
The SDF officers and soldiers were just as tense. Even with detailed intelligence, the horror of Godzilla had filtered down.
The plant was on the coast, and today's weather was far from ideal: dense clouds, strong sea winds, and dark, churning waves.
Suddenly, a massive flock of seabirds rose into the sky, seemingly terrified, screaming sharply as they fled toward the shore. A bad omen. Weak-willed soldiers trembled; only the trained S.H.I.E.L.D. agents stayed calm.
"What's happening? Did the seismographs or sonar pick anything up?"
Bob jumped down from the tank turret, gripping his electromagnetic sniper rifle, eyes fixed on the sea.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. operators monitoring the seismographs and sonar saw nothing unusual.
"All normal…"
"Fuck, does this look normal to you?"
Bob muttered, feeling unlucky. Of all the plants in Japan, Winston and Norman Osborn had targeted Mihama. The SDF and S.H.I.E.L.D. forces there were no match for Godzilla.
As tension reached a peak, a tremendous splash erupted from the sea. Norman Osborn emerged, massive and greedy-eyed, heading straight for the plant.
Having completed his genetic supplementation, he had never hungered like this before.
A wave of dominance emanated from him, causing even trained S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to waver. Lower-ranked soldiers nearly broke.
"How is this possible…? How did he bypass the sonar?" one agent groaned.
"Idiot, do you forget what Winston used to do? The Pentagon spent millions training him to infiltrate and sabotage ports. He must have cut the sonar cables already."
Bob's teeth chattered in fear. With Lizard genes, he was particularly sensitive to Godzilla's presence.
Soon enough, Winston also surfaced, following Norman closely.
"If you don't want to die here, call for backup!"
Bob activated the MK2's jet thrusters, ascending into the air to put distance between himself and Godzilla. Having seen the destruction of the Seventh Fleet, he knew the reach of Norman's attacks.
Norman sneered at him, advancing toward the shore. Water cascaded from his massive scales, a terrifying sight.
The smaller Winston trailed behind, agile and relentless.
"Fire! Open fire!"
Bob aimed at Norman Osborn and pulled the trigger. The electromagnetic sniper rifle's recoil jolted the MK2 midair.
The 20mm high-velocity titanium alloy penetrator crossed kilometers in an instant, striking Norman.
The shell, capable of piercing three meters of reinforced concrete, shattered upon impact, scattering sparks.
Norman didn't even flinch, as if swatted by a mosquito, accelerating toward the plant.
"Boom!"
The Type 90 tank crew finally reacted, using the onboard fire control system to target the charging Norman.
A depleted uranium AP round struck Norman's chest, producing an even larger explosion of sparks.
"Reload! Reload now!"
The gunner panicked at the slow pace of the automatic loader, which seemed excruciatingly sluggish compared to its usual speed.
"Boom!"
A searing flame engulfed the tank and nearby soldiers.
