The sprawling Mihama Nuclear Power Plant was in complete disarray. The newly reinforced external structures were ripped apart like paper. The fuel rods inside the reactor had vanished.
Shattered concrete and twisted steel bars littered the site. In one wall, remnants of a Type 90 main battle tank were jammed. The entire plant was covered in massive footprints, puddles of water reflecting the clear sky above.
The sound of helicopter rotors echoed in the air. A CH-53E Super Stallion from the Navy slowly descended onto the battlefield. Several soldiers in biohazard suits disembarked, carrying body bags to clear the remains of the fallen.
Most of the casualties were charred beyond recognition; even their dog tags had melted. Identification would have to rely on DNA testing back home.
All SHIELD agents present had been wiped out except for Bob Iger. Even he, in his damaged powered armor, had survived until the end. Meanwhile, the Self-Defense Forces, armed heavily to confront the main force of Godzilla, suffered minimal casualties as most had retreated immediately.
Nick Fury stood expressionless beneath the wrecked tank. Natasha, beside him, remained silent as well. She knew that Fury's wrath was terrifying, but his silence was even more fearsome.
"If they could have held out for five more minutes, we could have waited for the bombers patrolling the additional airspace. Just twenty more minutes, and the Titan reinforcements would have arrived."
Fury picked up a rifle and checked the magazine—it was still full.
"But they lasted only forty-three seconds, scattering like a pack of amateurs. Some didn't even fire a single shot."
Faced with such inept teammates, Fury would have given up if the two Godzillas hadn't grown enough to threaten the homeland.
"They've taken enough food to hibernate again. The cost we'll pay in the future will rise sharply, beyond our capacity."
"We must flush them out of their nest. They cannot be allowed to grow in peace. The Japanese are always proud of those few conventional submarines, right? Let them deploy all their subs for a full-scale underwater sweep."
The Mihama battle had convinced Fury that he could treat the Self-Defense Forces as expendable in the fight against Godzilla. The Titan Project had consumed much of his future influence to push through. If the fully grown Titans appeared on home soil, not only would he be at risk, but SHIELD would also be implicated.
"These japs won't deploy their elite forces. Every time you try, they find some excuse to avoid it," Natasha said.
SHIELD had indeed tried, but convincing the Japanese to defend the nuclear plant had been the best outcome after prolonged negotiations. Some Japanese politicians even claimed Godzilla was an American monster and that the U.S. should deal with it themselves, even seeking compensation. Natasha had nearly lost her temper during negotiations.
"No, I'll handle the talks this time," Fury said. Previously, he had sent Natasha to negotiate as a buffer to prevent direct conflict. Now that he had decided to rip off the veil, he had no more reservations.
SHIELD was not to be trifled with. As an organization that consumed massive funds yearly, if they revealed their other side, those haughty politicians would be utterly crushed.
"This doesn't look good."
A Falcon 2000EX private jet soared through the stratosphere. Matt lounged on the leather sofa, the crocodile-patterned seats gleaming under careful maintenance.
He poured himself a glass of whiskey and dropped two ice cubes in.
The jet, purchased under CIA authorization, was typically reserved for high-ranking officials. To curry favor with Broly, it had been dispatched to transport them to Japan.
U.S. military spy satellites had captured the Mihama battle. Matt streamed the footage onto the cabin television.
Watching the rampaging twin Godzillas, Broly felt his blood surge with the thrill of battle. Fighting and killing such monsters would be incredibly exciting.
These immense, nearly indestructible beasts were Broly's favorite opponents—resilient enough to test his martial prowess.
Suddenly, a wary expression crossed his face. Strange fluctuations in the air indicated something was about to appear.
Broly immediately raised his energy, white aura erupting like raging flames. In the sealed cabin, a storm whipped through. The private jet shook violently. Matt spilled his whiskey and ducked behind the sofa in terror.
"What's happening?" he exclaimed.
At this altitude, any damage to the aircraft could have been fatal for him.
Suddenly, countless sparks flew in the void, spiraling clockwise like a rapidly expanding vortex.
Broly tensed. To avoid tearing the plane apart, he didn't leverage it but instead performed the Vacuumbreak Technique, appearing instantly before the golden vortex. He clenched his fist and struck the vortex center.
Though his punch landed on empty air, its residual force nearly shattered Matt's eardrums.
On the other side of the portal, the Ancient One, hiding in another portal, winced. She saw the devastated snowy mountain. Broly's punch, though evaded, had caused a violent blizzard, even breaking part of the towering rock face.
This was not her first encounter with Broly. As the Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One possessed considerable close-combat skill, but to Broly, she was just another mortal.
The first time, she had been killed outright by a punch, even damaging Kamar-Taj. The second time, she relocated to the snowy mountains but was still injured by residual force.
This third time, she immediately entered another portal after opening one and had preemptively cast protective magic—Laggadore's Ring—avoiding injury.
"I am not here for combat, child of war from another world. I come for peace."
