Adrian's POV
The woman blinked, her expression shifting to one of innocent confusion. "Your wife, Lydia," she said simply. "It's been what... like six or seven years? Have you forgotten me already?"
Before I could respond, she reached forward and wrapped her arms around me in a tight embrace. I stood stiffly, my entire body tensing. I didn't know how to react.
My mind was screaming that this couldn't be real, that this had to be some kind of conspiracy. Lydia was dead, so this woman must surely be someone else wearing her face.
A shapeshifter. An imposter. Something else.
But then I felt it. The mate bond.
It hummed beneath my skin where she touched me, that unmistakable connection that couldn't be faked or replicated. My wolf would know. And even with Blake still silent in my mind, my body recognized her.
She was indeed Lydia. My first mate. My wife.
But how... how was this possible?
