Recalling his Nidoking, Gary couldn't help but grip the Poké Ball tightly in his hand.
Including the previously injured Fearow, he had now lost two rounds in a row. Therefore, the last Pokémon he sent out had to be capable of turning the tide!
But among his many Pokémon, only a handful met that criteria.
Should I send out Blastoise? Or should it be Arcanine?
Blastoise was his very first Pokémon and his most trusted partner, while Arcanine was also incredibly powerful and had helped him defeat many enemies.
The difficult choice now, however, was that both Blastoise and Arcanine were at a disadvantage against Natsui's remaining Jolteon and Gyarados!
Before the match, he had thought about many possibilities and expected a tough battle, but he had never imagined he would end up in this situation.
He glanced at the handsome, calm-looking man across the field. Just then, a slight breeze blew past, rustling a lock of Natsui's bangs, making him seem all the more profound and inscrutable!
So, is he really this strong?
Am I really so weak in front of him?
He was now backed into a corner. If he lost again, he would fall into a bottomless abyss!
Thinking back now, all the big talk he had made earlier seemed so childish and ridiculous!
As he was lost in thought, a unified, high-pitched cheer from the female voices in the stands reached his ears.
He turned to look and saw his cheer squad, those youthful and beautiful young women, cheering him on with all their might. Unfortunately, they were too far away for him to make out what they were saying, but from their excited expressions, it was clear they were telling him not to give up!
Everyone...
Gary was touched. He then looked to the side and saw the old man in the white lab coat sitting next to them!
Grandpa came too?
Feeling Professor Oak's gaze, a warmth instantly filled Gary's heart.
"Hmph, so you finally decided to leave your lab and come watch my match?"
Gary muttered under his breath, but despite his complaining tone, the sudden smile that bloomed on his face showed that his grandfather's presence had given him immense courage!
Finally, his gaze fell upon Ash.
Since you've already made it to the next round, there's no way I can fall here!
His confidence restored, Gary cleared his mind of distracting thoughts and turned back to face Natsui.
That's right, I still have so many people supporting me. How could I possibly give up now!
With that thought, he put away the Poké Ball and decisively sent out his third Pokémon.
"Go, my final choice!"
As the blue light faded, the Pokémon that appeared on the field was an Electabuzz!
"Oh, oh, oh!" the announcer shouted. "After careful consideration, trainer Gary has finally made his last choice and sent out Electabuzz! I have to say, since they are both Electric-types, Electabuzz can counter Gyarados while ensuring it won't be at a disadvantage against Jolteon. What a great choice!"
An Electric-type Pokémon?
On the other side, Natsui recalled his Gyarados and then slowly ran his finger across his remaining Poké Balls.
After a moment of thought, he ultimately decided to send out Jolteon again.
In that case, let's have a battle between Pokémon of the same type!
"Jolteon, I'm counting on you!"
Leaping out of the blue light, Jolteon gave a light cry and eagerly rushed in front of Electabuzz, facing off against it.
When the referee announced the start of the battle, the two Pokémon didn't even bother to size each other up, but immediately took the battle to a critical point!
In an instant, the piercing crackle of electricity and intense flashes of light filled the stadium!
Spectators sitting closer had to squint their eyes to avoid being hurt by the bright light!
Ice blocks exploded one after another!
Cracks spread across the ice surface!
When two Thunderbolts were unleashed at the same time, the immense energy caused a large section of the Ice Field to collapse in an instant!
A huge pillar of water, thrown up by the explosion, rose from the pool, flew into the air, and then fell back down as a torrential rain over the shattered remnants of the field.
The once-thick layer of ice was now broken into countless pieces, floating on the surface of the pool.
By the time the audience recovered from the fast-paced battle, Jolteon and Electabuzz were standing on two separate ice floes, looking at each other, both panting heavily.
However, despite the intensity of the battle, Gary sensed that something wasn't quite right.
Although Electric-type Pokémon only dealt half damage to each other, why was it that after taking so many attacks, Electabuzz was covered in scorch marks, while Natsui's Jolteon looked so... unscathed!?
After a moment of confusion, he suddenly remembered something.
Tch, so this Jolteon's ability is Volt Absorb...
No wonder Electric-type moves have no effect on it!
Having figured it out, Gary quickly ordered Electabuzz to switch to attacks of other types.
Quick Attack, Swift, Low Kick, Light Screen...
He had Electabuzz use almost every move it knew, but without its Electric-type attacks, Electabuzz was like a tiger without its fangs. Although its claws were still sharp, being unable to use its deadliest weapon caused it to gradually lose the upper hand.
On the other hand, Jolteon could attack without restraint.
Relying on its agile footwork and incredible speed, it continuously moved between the various ice floes, looking for any and every opportunity!
Finally, as a large block of ice floated by, briefly obstructing Electabuzz's line of sight, Jolteon seized the opportunity and ended the battle with a single Pin Missile!
"Wow!"
The audience erupted in enthusiastic applause and cheers for the visually stunning battle!
Seeing Electabuzz fall, Gary instinctively took a step back, his mind in a daze.
On the battlefield, even the strongest conviction cannot change the outcome when faced with an absolute gap in strength, no matter how unwilling one is to accept it!
The momentum he had just managed to rebuild collapsed once again, like a bursting dam.
With two Pokémon defeated, Gary stood there呆呆地, stunned. He only sent out Fearow again after being prompted by the referee.
This time, it seemed everyone could see Gary's fate.
In the stands, some of his cheerleaders, unable to accept the reality, had already begun to shed tears! Even some of Natsui's supporters gave Gary a round of friendly applause.
On the field, although he knew Gary was powerless to struggle, Natsui still cautiously sent out his third Pokémon.
The next second, Charizard soared into the sky, its eyes fixed on the prey before it.
The two Flying-type Pokémon chased and battled in the air, but the difference in strength was too great. The injured Fearow was taken out by one of Charizard's Flamethrowers and fell into the water below.
Seeing this, the referee raised his flag.
"Fearow is unable to battle! All three of trainer Gary's Pokémon have been defeated! The final winner on the Ice Field is trainer Natsui!"
Hearing the result, the crowd cheered wildly, but Gary knew that this applause was for the victor and had nothing to do with him.
He gave Natsui a complex look, then silently recalled his Fearow and left the stadium, dejected and without a word...
