Chapter 166 - Chapter 165: The Champion

On the battlefield, Jolteon's Quick Attack slammed into Scyther, sending it flying back over ten meters.

Finally, after tumbling a dozen times on the ground, the battered Scyther collapsed limply at Corey's feet.

On the green trainer's platform, Corey's heart pounded wildly as he looked at his fourth defeated Pokémon.

It's already 4-0!!!

He was terrified that if this continued, he would be swept and become nothing more than a miserable backdrop for his opponent's glory!

If that really happened, while his opponent would achieve glory, he would appear utterly incompetent in the eyes of the world!

But the gap in strength and the constant type suppression left him feeling helpless.

Urged on by the referee, he recalled his Scyther and sent out a Sandslash. But even though Sandslash's Ground type was immune to Jolteon's Electric type, Corey knew it was still futile!

It was a no-brainer; he knew Natsui would definitely switch his Pokémon to reverse the unfavorable matchup.

Sure enough, upon seeing the Sandslash, Natsui didn't hesitate, immediately swapping out Jolteon and sending in Blastoise.

Water against Ground again...

Seeing this, Corey sighed inwardly. Ever since losing the first round, facing Natsui who had the advantage of switching second, he truly had no idea how to make a comeback.

However, the world is full of surprises. When the fifth battle began, Sandslash's outstanding performance made his eyes light up!

Sandslash burrowed into the ground and then used Sand Tomb, creating a large, circular pit in the center of the field. The surrounding solid ground was broken into fine sand, which began to flow into the pit!

Caught off guard, Blastoise slid into the pit. Although it struggled, trying to escape the area, its own weight caused its feet to sink deep, and it couldn't break free from the swirling sand!

Sandslash's performance could only be described as unexpected, and it gave Corey a glimmer of hope in the pitch-black darkness!

Could there still be a chance!?

On the other side, seeing Blastoise sinking deeper and deeper, Natsui thought for a moment and came up with a solution worth trying.

"Blastoise, aim for the center of the pit and use Water Gun!!"

Hearing the command, the two cannons on Blastoise's back simultaneously shot out large streams of water towards the center of the pit. The area under its feet was quickly soaked, and the sand, having absorbed the water, clumped together and in the blink of an eye, turned back into wet soil!

This soil, now dense with moisture, counteracted the downward pull of the Sand Tomb, breaking the move's effect!

From the mud pit, Blastoise swam a few strokes and returned to a safe position, covered in mud.

As for Sandslash, it had been hiding under the sand, waiting for an opportunity. But because of the influx of water, it choked on a few mouthfuls and was forced to scramble out in a panic.

This incredibly creative counter-play drew gasps of amazement from the announcer and the audience. But for Corey, that glimmer of light vanished, and his whole world plunged back into darkness, his mood hitting rock bottom.

So it's still not enough?

On the field, the battle continued.

Sandslash's long, sharp claws scraped against Blastoise's shell again and again, creating sparks, but Blastoise simply countered with a Water Pulse that sent it reeling.

Finally, as if they had the same idea, both Pokémon began to spin. One retreated into its shell, the other curled its body into a ball. Like two spinning tops, they accelerated and then violently collided!

Bang!

After the dull impact, Blastoise and Sandslash separated and uncurled. But compared to Blastoise's minor scratches, Sandslash was wobbling. It took only a few steps before it lost its balance and collapsed onto the ground.

Seeing the referee raise the flag, the announcer shouted, "That's incredible! Trainer Natsui has won another round, and the score is now 5-0! He's just one Pokémon away from winning the championship! Could it be that he's really going to set a record that surpasses everyone else's!?"

At this moment, the cheers from the stands merged into one. It was unclear who started it, but the spectators began to rise to their feet, and the once chaotic shouting in the stadium gradually unified into a single voice.

"Champion!! Champion!! Champion!! Cham..."

This was a spontaneous chant from the audience, a sign that in their hearts, Natsui's performance was truly deserving of the title!

Even Ash, Brock, and the others were swept up in the atmosphere, standing up and joining in.

But at the same time, Corey's face turned extremely grim.

The match wasn't even over, and he still had one Pokémon left to use, but it seemed the audience no longer had any expectations for him, as if he had become completely irrelevant!

Sigh...

It's all over...

He inadvertently glanced at the referee, and their eyes met. In the official's eyes, he saw a hint of pity...

Ouch!!

That really hurts!

To think that even the referee feels sorry for me!

"Champion!! Champion!! Champion!! Champion..."

The chanting showed no signs of stopping. As the center of everyone's attention, even Natsui hadn't expected this to happen.

Although he was usually calm, at this moment, he couldn't help but feel his heart pounding with excitement!

Just one more victory, and he would obtain the greatest honor of the Indigo Conference and hold the trophy in his hands!!

In the commentary box, Lance looked at Natsui, filled with emotion.

In all his years as an Elite Four member, he had seen countless trainers, but whether in the Indigo or Silver Conferences, he had never seen a competitor so overwhelmingly supported by the audience!

No wonder even the International Police had to ask for his help!

On the battlefield, amidst this atmosphere, Corey, under immense psychological pressure, sent out his final Pokémon.

It was a Fighting-type, a Hitmonlee. Seeing this, Natsui recalled his Blastoise and sent out his sixth Pokémon—Gardevoir!

Although Hitmonlee had helped Corey defeat many enemies before, at this point, Corey had completely lost his will to fight, both mentally and emotionally.

Especially when facing a Psychic-type Pokémon that countered his Fighting-type, he completely gave up resistance, wishing the battle would just end as soon as possible.

One side had unstoppable momentum, while the other was utterly demoralized.

The result was a foregone conclusion.

When Gardevoir knocked out Hitmonlee with a single Psychic, it signified that the Indigo Conference, which had lasted for over half a month, had finally come to an end.

As festive streamers shot out from both sides of the field, covering the entire sky, the announcer leaped to his feet and declared loudly, "A new Indigo Conference Champion has appeared!!! Let's all congratulate trainer Natsui on winning this year's Indigo Conference! And what's even more incredible is that from the preliminary rounds to now, he has never lost a single battle, setting a new record that is almost impossible to achieve! Now, let's all shout his name and cheer for him!!"
