Through the narrow passage, Natsui and Sabrina finally reached the deepest part of the cave.
The space here was extremely wide, filled everywhere with crystals, making the entire cave look like a great labyrinth constructed from crystal. A single beam of sunlight, filtering down from a crevice above, was refracted endlessly, making the place as bright as day!
"I'm thinking if I ever go broke and become destitute, I'll just come here to mine crystals. I'd definitely get rich in an instant and reach the pinnacle of success!"
Natsui exclaimed, but all he got in return was a major eye-roll from Sabrina.
"Former Champion Forced by Hardship to Become a Miner. I think that headline would definitely make everyone's jaw drop!"
Perhaps after spending so much time with Natsui and being influenced by his personality, Sabrina made a rare joke.
Natsui laughed heartily, put away his flashlight without another thought, and then looked towards the center of the cave.
A stream of water, no more than a dozen centimeters wide, was continuously flowing into a small underground lake.
The lake water was clear and cold; even before getting close, they could feel its damp chill.
However, as Natsui looked around, he saw no sign of a Crystal Onix.
Even when he looked at the lake, not only was there no movement beneath the surface, but the water itself was only faintly rippling.
"Hm?" Natsui scratched his head. "Could it be out hunting for food? Or has someone already caught it?"
"No," Sabrina said, extending a hand and pointing to a spot in the lake. "I can feel something there. I don't know how it's hiding, but it should be the Pokémon we're looking for!"
"That's right!" Haunter added. "There's definitely a Pokémon concealing itself there!"
With Sabrina's psychic powers, Haunter's perception, and Gardevoir also present, with this team of "two psychics and one ghost" by his side, ordinary methods of concealment were useless!
And Natsui himself remembered that due to its special body, this Crystal Onix did indeed have the ability to move stealthily in water!
Thinking of this, he took his Gengar mask from his backpack and put it on his face.
After its modification, this Gengar mask had been fused with a Silph Scope, giving it the ability to see through invisibility. He hadn't had a chance to use it before, but now was the perfect time.
When he looked again at the spot Sabrina had just pointed to, he indeed saw a massive Pokémon, about seven or eight meters long, floating on the water's surface, watching them with cold eyes!
And upon seeing its full form, Natsui immediately understood. Just like the Vaporeon he had seen in Stone Town that could merge with water, this Onix's crystal body could refract the surrounding water, which also gave it a similar ability to become invisible in water!
"That's right, it's right here! Everyone, get ready!"
In the lake, seeing that it seemed to have been discovered, the Onix moved its body and rose from the water. As it revealed itself, Sabrina and Natsui's Pokémon could finally see its true appearance.
"So this is the Crystal Onix?" Sabrina observed it for a few moments, her eyes full of curiosity. "It really is beautiful! I never thought such a peculiar Pokémon actually existed in this world!"
In truth, apart from its crystal-like body, the Crystal Onix's appearance was no different from a regular Onix, with a long horn on its head and a massive body composed of boulders.
The reason it had become like this must have been related to this crystal cave!
Taking off his mask, Natsui glanced at Haunter and Gardevoir, thought for a moment, then shook his head and reached for his belt.
Natsui was very curious about this Onix and its typing. While planning to catch it, he decided to take the opportunity to test it thoroughly.
"Jolteon, Blastoise, and Venusaur, come on out!"
As the blue light faded, the three Pokémon appeared in the cave. The Crystal Onix, already on high alert, let out an angry roar.
"ROAR!!"
No Pokémon likes outsiders invading its habitat, and the Crystal Onix was no exception. However, seeing so many people and Pokémon suddenly appear, it was outnumbered and didn't dare to act rashly or make the first move!
Seeing this, Natsui nodded and analyzed, "Hmm... it's angry that its home has been found, but it hasn't fled or attacked first. I originally thought its personality would be like Gyarados's, but it seems to be relatively calm."
But if it's not going to move, then I'll make the first move to test it!
Waving a hand at Jolteon, Natsui commanded, "Use Thundershock!"
Jolteon's stiff fur bristled, and instantly a bolt of electricity shot towards the Crystal Onix in the water.
BZZT!
The Thundershock hit the Crystal Onix's body, and the current spread through the lake, causing crackling sounds and raising puffs of white steam. However, when the steam cleared, Natsui found that the Crystal Onix hadn't taken any damage at all!
Sabrina naturally understood Natsui's purpose and said, "Even in the water, it took no damage from an Electric-type move. It seems that just like other Onix, it also has the Ground type."
Natsui nodded in agreement with this view.
At this point, the Crystal Onix could no longer hold back and began to counterattack.
It opened its large mouth, let out a roar, and instantly, countless stones formed in the air and rained down on the group.
It's the Rock-type move, Rock Tomb!
Could its typing still be Ground and Rock!?
But... isn't that no different from a regular Onix!?
However, Natsui didn't jump to conclusions and decided to continue the battle to see if it had any other abilities or moves.
Seeing the falling rocks getting closer, before Sabrina could act, Gardevoir raised its arms and stopped all the rocks in mid-air.
"Good job, Gardevoir! Blastoise, use Water Gun!"
Blastoise shot a thick stream of water from its mouth at the Crystal Onix. However, the Water Gun, which should have dealt four times the damage to a Ground- and Rock-type, seemed to have no effect on the Crystal Onix, as if it didn't feel a thing!
It has a resistance to Water-type moves?
Natsui nodded again.
In fact, he had roughly guessed this from the fact that the Crystal Onix lived in water. He had Blastoise use Water Gun simply to verify this theory.
Now, seeing that the Water Gun was indeed ineffective, he had his answer.
Although its body was made of crystal, the Crystal Onix's typing was indeed Ground and Rock. It was just that due to its body's density, it had a certain resistance to water, which allowed it to live in the water unaffected!
