"Begin!"
Seeing that both sides were ready, a sailor acting as the referee swung his arm down sharply.
The next second, before either trainer could speak, both Pokémon charged forward simultaneously, rushing toward their opponents.
Although the battle had just begun, Natsui was already thinking ahead, formulating a strategy. Poliwrath was a Water/Fighting type. While Electric-type moves had a double effectiveness against it, to be cautious, the fact that this Poliwrath had won a fighting tournament proved its strength was not to be underestimated.
Just in case, it's best not to get close…
With this in mind, Natsui shouted, "Jolteon, don't get any closer! Maintain your distance and use Thundershock!"
Hearing Natsui's command, Jolteon screeched to a halt, stopping its forward charge. It began to circle Poliwrath, constantly adjusting its position to maintain a safe distance. At the same time, a jolt of electricity erupted from between its stiff fur and shot towards Poliwrath.
In terms of speed, Poliwrath naturally couldn't dodge the fast-approaching electric attack. Facing the threat of double damage, it had no choice but to stop and counter with a move of its own.
A beam that looked full of chilling energy shot from its mouth, piercing right through the center of the lightning bolt.
This move was the Ice-type attack used by many Water Pokémon—Ice Beam. Since it was quite common, it wasn't difficult to recognize.
Swish!
However, due to the power disparity, the Ice Beam directly shattered the Thundershock, causing it to dissipate into specks of light. The beam continued straight towards Jolteon's position. But by the time the Ice Beam reached it, Jolteon had already moved, barely dodging the attack as it grazed past.
With the roles of offense and defense reversed, Jolteon shook its fur, and another Thundershock shot towards Poliwrath.
Poliwrath's breathing was slightly ragged.
Using a more powerful move also meant a longer interval between attacks and a greater consumption of stamina; it couldn't be used continuously without restraint.
This time, it was caught in the cooldown period while regulating its energy and naturally couldn't use Ice Beam to block again.
The electric light grew closer, but Poliwrath was unable to dodge in time. It could only watch as the Thundershock hit its body directly.
CRACKLE!
For a moment, sparks flew everywhere.
Amidst the harsh sound of the electric current, golden sparks flashed across Poliwrath's body, its face contorted in pain. But even so, it gritted its teeth, stood firm, and continued to charge towards Jolteon.
It was clear that, compared to Jolteon, Poliwrath was desperate to close the distance. Unfortunately, Jolteon was extremely agile and never gave it the chance to get near.
Seeing this, Shane's brow slowly furrowed. To be honest, he wasn't afraid of a type disadvantage at all. What he feared was an opponent like Natsui, who gave him absolutely no opportunity to get close.
Just as Natsui had guessed, this Poliwrath's fighting ability was extremely strong, even overshadowing its primary typing. In past battles, it had more than once relied on its fighting skills to defeat opponents who thought they had a sure victory, turning the tables and winning.
But now, it seemed that the trump card he relied on for a comeback had been seen through by the man before him.
No, I have to find a way to get close to Jolteon!
With this thought, he quickly changed his strategy and commanded, "Poliwrath! Aim for the deck under Jolteon and use Ice Beam again!"
After catching its breath, Poliwrath was able to use Ice Beam again. This time, as the beam shot out, it crossed with the path of the previous Ice Beam, covering half the field.
The deck was now a slippery sheet of ice. Affected by this, Jolteon's speed predictably slowed down as it tried to keep from falling.
"Good chance!" Shane's eyes lit up, and he shouted, "Use Body Slam!"
Poliwrath seized the opportunity to get close, then leaped high into the air. With its arms and legs spread, it came crashing down on Jolteon with immense force.
The moment Shane had ordered Poliwrath to use Ice Beam on the ground, Natsui had already seen through his plan.
Since you're so desperate to get close, let's have a direct clash and see who can take more damage!
Seeing Jolteon about to dodge, he said directly, "Jolteon, no need to dodge! Just use Discharge!"
Hearing his command, Jolteon didn't hesitate. It stood its ground and began to gather power.
The next second, an even more violent burst of electricity erupted from its body. At the same time, Poliwrath had fallen to a position just a dozen centimeters away from Jolteon.
Now, neither Pokémon could escape.
CRACKLE!
BOOM!
A blinding golden light erupted, causing the surrounding people to instinctively shield their eyes.
They couldn't see what was happening on the field clearly. They could only judge from the sounds that Poliwrath's Body Slam had indeed hit Jolteon, and the Discharge had clearly struck Poliwrath as well.
Will it be a double knockout?
As the light subsided, everyone quickly looked and saw Jolteon shaking its head, seemingly dazed from the impact. However, after a moment, it still managed to climb up from the deck.
Shane's Poliwrath, on the other hand, was lying on the ground, smoke rising from its body, as if it had been scorched inside and out.
However, just as everyone thought the match was over, Poliwrath, after coughing up a puff of black smoke, staggered back to its feet.
Such strong willpower!
Not only was Natsui greatly surprised, but even the other onlookers were stunned by its performance.
To be so injured and yet, for the sake of victory, to disregard its own safety and continue to fight on so tenaciously.
Still not giving up?
After waiting a moment and seeing that Shane had no intention of speaking, Natsui glanced at him.
What surprised Natsui was that although Shane's brow was slightly furrowed, he showed no intention of stopping the battle.
Natsui found this very puzzling.
If it were a life-or-death battle, or a match of great personal significance, it would be understandable to go all out and fight to the last, even on the brink of collapse.
But this was just a casual battle between passersby. To push so hard was truly uncalled for.
He's gambling with his Pokémon's life…
However, Natsui didn't want to lecture him.
Everyone walks their own path. He could only hope that Shane wouldn't regret overtaxing his Pokémon's life like this in the future.
And the only thing he could do now was to defeat Poliwrath as quickly as possible to end its suffering.
"Jolteon, end this! Use Thunder Fang!"
Jolteon nodded solemnly. It was also amazed by Poliwrath's willpower, but as its opponent, defeating it without mercy was the greatest sign of respect.
