Watched by hundreds of people, Poliwrath seemed to experience a final surge of energy. It regained some strength and took the offensive, using Mega Punch against Jolteon.
For a moment, a flurry of fists enveloped Jolteon.
Although it looked impressive, everyone understood that this was its final struggle.
Seeing the trajectory of the punches, Jolteon dodged nimbly.
The earlier exchange of Discharge and Body Slam had shattered the ice on the deck that had been created by the Ice Beams, so it no longer had to worry about slipping and could finally run freely.
With its speed restored, the tables turned completely, and Poliwrath couldn't land a single punch.
After dodging more than a dozen punches, Jolteon saw its chance and opened its mouth wide. The next second, its dense fangs, crackling with lightning, bit down on Poliwrath's body.
ZAP!
Electric is super-effective against Water, triggering double damage. It was a critical hit!
Electricity once again coursed through Poliwrath's body. This time, it couldn't even manage a cry before it collapsed limply to the ground, on the verge of fainting.
Seeing this, the referee declared Natsui the winner.
A round of applause erupted from the crowd. Judging by the momentum, they had originally expected Shane to win, or at the very least for it to be an evenly matched battle. They never thought this handsome challenger would defeat the on-a-roll Shane so easily.
It was truly surprising.
Many of the female trainers even cast fiery gazes in Natsui's direction.
With the dust settled, Shane, his face filled with embarrassment, took out a Poké Ball, recalled his Poliwrath, and then, without looking back, plunged into the crowd and disappeared from sight.
Natsui guessed that Shane felt he had lost face in this battle, so much so that he couldn't even bear to stay and offer a few words of sportsmanship after it was over.
His attitude was a world apart from the confidence he had displayed before the battle.
But it was understandable. His Pokémon was so heavily injured that the most important thing now was to get it emergency treatment.
Still… that Poliwrath had it pretty rough. It had all that fighting skill but never got a chance to use it, getting worn down by a type disadvantage.
Although Shane was surely unwilling to accept it, there was nothing to be done.
Pokémon battles are all about flexibility and are filled with unknowns. You never know what kind of opponent you'll face next, and luck is, naturally, a major factor in determining victory or defeat.
No one else was to blame for this battle; one could only say that Shane's luck was terrible.
If Natsui had been in the same situation, he probably would have been just as helpless.
By this time, Jolteon had returned to Natsui's side.
After Shane's defeat, the area gradually quieted down. The onlookers looked around, whispering among themselves, but after a long wait, no one else came forward to challenge Natsui.
"Forget it…"
Seeing no more opponents, Natsui was no longer in the mood to battle. He recalled Jolteon and, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, turned and left with Sabrina.
…
HOOOONK—!
With a deafening blast of its horn, a medium-sized passenger ship slowly docked at the port.
After a twenty-hour voyage that passed by three islands, the ship carrying Natsui and Sabrina finally arrived at Navel Island at dusk the next day.
Over the past day, Natsui hadn't battled again since his match with Shane.
Firstly, the skill level of the other trainers was generally low. Although several more battles were held, none of them piqued his interest the way Shane had.
As the Indigo League Champion, he was naturally more selective about his opponents than before.
Secondly, he took the opportunity to spend quality time with Sabrina, treating it as a vacation to relax.
Coincidentally, Sabrina was on her period, and Natsui was incredibly attentive, fetching her warm water and warming her abdomen. He took care of her every need.
Perhaps because no one had ever doted on her like this growing up, Natsui's actions touched the softest part of her heart. For the entire day, the way she looked at him was filled with extreme warmth.
Natsui, of course, was unaware of all this.
He only knew that being good to his woman was being good to himself.
Taking care of his woman when she was at her most vulnerable was simply the natural thing to do.
It was worth mentioning, however, that since his battle with Natsui, Shane had vanished without a trace.
Natsui had originally thought he would regroup and challenge him again to regain his lost honor, but it now seemed that Shane must have disembarked at one of the stops along the way.
Either Poliwrath's injuries were too severe, forcing him to seek treatment at a town's Pokémon Center, or after his strongest Pokémon was defeated, he knew victory was hopeless and, not wanting to appear before Natsui as a loser, fled without another fight…
But whatever the reason, with Shane gone, it was unlikely their paths would ever cross again.
"Where to now?" Sabrina's soft voice suddenly interrupted Natsui's thoughts.
The two of them were standing on the port, with the town of Navel Island before them.
"Let's push on," Natsui said, looking up at the sky. "Trovita Island isn't far from here, and that's where the last gym is. Before the sun sets completely, let's get there and then find a place to stay."
Sabrina naturally had no objections.
In fact, at this point, whenever they faced a decision, even if she had a different idea, she would almost always follow Natsui's lead.
Seeing her agree, Natsui summoned Charizard. The two of them mounted it and flew straight towards Trovita Island.
Whoosh~
They flew above the sea.
Perhaps because night was approaching, the sea air grew colder.
Knowing she was in a delicate condition, Sabrina used her psychic powers to envelop them both, shielding them from the harsh, cold wind.
They flew for another two hours, finally arriving at Trovita Island as night fell.
Because the rest of the island was too dark, Natsui had Charizard land directly at the port of Trovita Island.
Although it was nighttime, the port was brightly lit. Natsui looked closely and saw that a large, long-distance cruise ship from another region was docked in the harbor.
A large crowd of tourists was disembarking from the ship. They were noisy and boisterous, and under the bright lights, the pier was extremely lively.
Looks like another island famous for tourism.
Sighing, Natsui patted Charizard's neck, signaling it to descend slowly.
However, despite slowing down, Charizard's sudden landing still startled a few passersby.
Left with no choice, Natsui offered a few apologies, then recalled Charizard. He and Sabrina joined the crowd, letting the flow carry them towards the town of Trovita Island.
