Just then, Dr. Quackenpoker, having finished checking his equipment, walked over to Natsui and the others. He frowned, his face filled with worry as he watched the ongoing battle.
"How is it?" Natsui asked. "Is all your equipment intact?"
"It's fine. Apart from a few scratches, there's no major damage," Dr. Quackenpoker replied with a nod. He then pushed up his glasses and said seriously, "These Gyarados are not angry by choice; they were provoked by external stimuli. We must find a way to stop this rampage without harming them!"
"Stopping them peacefully is no longer an option," Natsui said, glancing at him. He couldn't believe that someone so old could still be so naive. "Right now, the only way to get this swarm of Gyarados to calm down completely is to defeat them. We can't afford to be soft-hearted or hold onto any other false hopes."
Rebuked by Natsui, Dr. Quackenpoker's face flushed.
As a Pokémon Watcher, from his own perspective, he naturally hoped to protect the Pokémon's safety above all else.
Moreover, at his age, being contradicted to his face by a young man was a bit hard on his pride.
But then again, he knew as soon as he had spoken that his idea was unrealistic. Nevertheless, he still wanted to try.
"That may be so, but…"
"There are no buts," Natsui cut him off, his tone cold. "Indecisiveness will only lead to more chaos. Before they cause even greater destruction, we must defeat them immediately! Mr. Quackenpoker, you are not skilled in battling. I suggest you don't get in the way here."
This time, Natsui's tone was harsh and impolite. Hearing this, Dr. Quackenpoker opened his mouth, but could only sigh and step aside silently.
At that moment, the battlefield was still in a stalemate.
Initially, Natsui and Ash's group had thought the same thing: that after defeating Team Rocket and rescuing the Magikarp, the incident would be over. They never expected such an unforeseen outcome.
It seems I have to find a way to break this deadlock…
With this thought, he placed his hand on the pouch on his right hip.
Besides the three Ultra Balls, he had two regular Poké Balls left in his pouch.
One of them contained Dratini. Since it hadn't experienced any real battles yet, and given the chaotic situation, Natsui had no plans to send it out for now.
As for the other one…
Natsui took out the Poké Ball, tossed it in his hand, and then threw it forward, releasing the Pokémon inside.
"Go, Gyarados!"
As the blue light faded, a Gyarados appeared in the large, water-filled crater.
Previously, Natsui hadn't sent out his own Gyarados. Firstly, because the wild Gyarados swarm was too large, and he was afraid that Ash and the others' Pokémon would get confused and attack the wrong target.
Secondly, he was also afraid that his Gyarados, upon seeing so many of its own kind, would also fall into a rage and attack indiscriminately.
But now, he clearly couldn't worry about that anymore.
"Gyarados, snap those guys back to their senses!"
"ROOOAR!"
Hearing Natsui's command, Gyarados let out a roar that reached the heavens. The oppressive sound, far more powerful than that of its wild counterparts, instantly enveloped the entire Kinnow Island.
Hearing this sound, the battle suddenly paused. Not only the raging Gyarados, but also Ash's and the others' Pokémon were all affected by the roar. Pokémon with more timid natures, like Tracey's Marill and Misty's Goldeen, were so frightened they flinched.
They looked timidly toward the Gyarados.
The darkest part of the night had passed, and the sky was beginning to show the first light of dawn. In the hazy twilight, Gyarados stood tall, surrounded by a mist of water, looking incredibly intimidating.
It was just too imposing.
Although it looked no different from the wild Gyarados, having been tempered by countless battles and having participated in high-intensity competitions, Natsui's Gyarados, in both presence and power, was clearly in a different league from this group of newly evolved, inexperienced Gyarados.
Once it understood the situation on the field, it showed no regard for kinship. It opened its massive mouth and bit down on the long neck of one of the wild Gyarados.
"RAWR!"
The wild Gyarados, caught off guard, had its skin pierced by the sharp teeth. It cried out in pain and, acting on instinct, turned its head to bite back at Natsui's Gyarados.
However, Natsui's Gyarados, still in its right mind, naturally wouldn't let it succeed.
It released its bite, leaned back, and caused the other Gyarados to miss its target. Facing the incoming head, it spun its body and delivered a massive tail strike right to the wild Gyarados's face.
SMACK!
The sound echoed across the land. The wild Gyarados was sent spinning through the air.
And it wasn't over. After knocking down that one, Natsui's Gyarados targeted a second one. It swam rapidly towards it and, as if carrying immense force, rammed into it.
Even when not in a rage, Natsui's Gyarados was more ferocious than the wild ones. It was like a wolf among sheep; not a single wild Gyarados was its match.
With such simple, brute force, it took down a second, then a third…
As the number of wild Gyarados dwindled, the other Pokémon began to sense that the atmosphere had changed.
They almost all stopped fighting at the same time, retreated, and left the battlefield to the Gyarados.
Even Ash and the others could see that Natsui's Gyarados wasn't using any strategy, but was simply unleashing its power based on instinct.
Ash murmured, "Natsui's Gyarados is so strong…"
In his eyes, this was no battle; it was a merciless slaughter.
"Do you even need to ask!?" Although Misty was also shocked by Gyarados's presence, her eyes still sparkled with admiration. "This is the Gyarados that helped Natsui win the Indigo Conference! Of course it's strong!"
Nearby, seeing this, Dr. Quackenpoker could no longer hold back. Forgetting his pride, he walked over again.
"Mr. Natsui, your Gyarados is too brutal! Please recall it!"
To be honest, even Natsui himself hadn't expected Gyarados to perform like this.
All he could say was that its growth rate was terrifying. Although there had been signs of it during the Indigo Conference, the power it was displaying now was still an eye-opener.
Seeing Dr. Quackenpoker's anxious expression, Natsui pondered for a moment but did not recall his Gyarados.
With the battle having reached this point, victory was only a matter of time.
Although he felt a bit sorry for the wild Gyarados, this was a perfect opportunity to see just how far his own Gyarados had grown.
