It was clear that Silver had scouted the terrain and the laboratory's details in advance before coming here.
In the distance, under the watchful eyes of Natsui and Looker, they saw him cautiously look left and right. After confirming that no one was around, he quickly approached the research building, pried open a window, and climbed inside.
The series of movements was as smooth as flowing water, making even Natsui, who was just watching, exclaim in praise.
Exchanging a look with Looker, the two of them also tiptoed to the window, peeking their heads in to look inside. They saw Silver in a research room filled with precision instruments. From a machine with three Poké Balls lined up, he took one, put it in his waist pouch, and then carefully made his way back out the same way he came in.
Seeing him about to leave, Natsui and Looker quickly returned to their hiding spot behind the large tree.
After coming out, Silver didn't seem to bother covering his tracks, leaving the window open as he left Professor Elm's laboratory without any hesitation.
Natsui turned his head to look at Looker and whispered, "What do you want to do? Should I stop him?"
After watching Silver's entire crime unfold, Looker had been frowning, as if something were on his mind, and hadn't spoken for a long time.
That's it!?
It was utterly disappointing!
According to Looker's speculation, given Team Rocket's style, and as Giovanni's son—the de facto number two in Team Rocket—he had thought Silver's arrival here was to coordinate with other members for a spectacular robbery.
At the very least, he should have ransacked the entire laboratory for all its Pokémon and data before leaving.
But he never expected that after all his efforts, tailing Silver all the way here, he would only witness a simple act of theft. And he only stole a single Poké Ball.
Since when did Team Rocket become so unambitious?
As the son of the great Giovanni, where is your bottom line? Where is your pride?
How is such a lowly act any different from a common thief on the street?
"Let's wait a little longer," Looker said, still unwilling to give up after much thought. "I just feel that things aren't that simple. Let's follow him first and see where he's going."
Hearing him say this, Natsui gave Gengar a look, telling it to continue tailing Silver. He and Looker then went outside the laboratory's courtyard wall and regrouped with Sabrina.
This time, Silver left New Bark Town and headed straight for Cherrygrove City.
And after following for a long time, with the moon high in the sky and the stars twinkling, just as they were about to reach the forest where Natsui had met the girl with the baseball bat, Looker finally couldn't hold back any longer.
"No, we can't let him go any further," Looker sighed. "It seems I was overthinking it. This guy didn't come here to command some major Team Rocket operation at all; he just simply stole a Pokémon from Professor Elm!"
Natsui looked at him. "So?"
Looker thought for a moment. "We have two options now. First, we do nothing. That way, we can continue to follow him and see where he's going. We might even find a Team Rocket hideout. But this method is not only time-consuming and laborious, but what if he has other things to do? That would be a huge pain for us."
Natsui nodded. "Indeed, the chances of that are too slim."
After a pause, Looker continued, "Then let's go with the second option. We'll just capture him right now and get everything out of him through interrogation."
Natsui weighed the pros and cons and also agreed. "Alright. Since we've run into Team Rocket, there's no reason to let him go. Let's act quickly."
The two whispered for a moment, and then Natsui no longer hesitated. He ran quickly through the woods and finally, by a lake in the forest, blocked Silver's path.
"Who are you!?"
Seeing Natsui suddenly appear, Silver's brow furrowed. But before Natsui could answer, he heard footsteps behind him. He turned his head and saw a man and a woman slowly emerging from both sides, surrounding him in a three-pronged pincer formation.
He understood that these three had malicious intentions and were clearly here for him.
Flashing his police badge in front of him, Looker said in a deep voice, "Silver, I'm with the International Police. You're under arrest! I advise you to surrender without a fight and come with us quietly. Don't put up a futile resistance and avoid unnecessary harm."
"International Police!?" Unexpectedly, after hearing Looker's words, Silver showed no signs of panic and sneered, "What crime have I committed to warrant my arrest by the International Police?"
Looker said, "You should know that since we've targeted you, we naturally have a full understanding of your background. And you just came from Professor Elm's laboratory. What you did there, I don't need to repeat, do I?"
Damn it, when was I discovered?
Seeing that these people even knew what he had just done at Professor Elm's lab, Silver understood that they had been watching him for a long time. If he wanted to get away, it seemed he would have to fight his way out today.
With this thought, he took out the Poké Ball he had stolen from Professor Elm's lab and spun it on his finger.
"Fine. The Poké Ball is in my hand. If you want to take me back, let's see if you have what it takes!"
But just as Silver finished speaking, the Poké Ball on his finger suddenly flew up on its own, then quickly flew towards the woman, who caught it firmly in her hand.
"What!?"
Silver looked at Sabrina in horror, his face full of disbelief. Then, as if remembering something, his pupils shrank, and he stared at her.
"So it's you! The woman who can use psychic powers!" His face turned a bit pale, and he turned his head to Natsui. "Needless to say, you must be Natsui! There have been rumors within the organization that a man and a woman have been causing trouble for us everywhere. I never thought I'd run into you today!"
If it were just a few International Police officers, he wouldn't be afraid at all. But the man and woman before him had a fearsome reputation within Team Rocket. Both the elite units and the Four Generals had fallen at his hands. Therefore, when discussing them, just hearing their names was enough to make the ordinary members' scalps tingle.
What bad luck! Why did I have to run into them?
He didn't dare to underestimate them any longer. He took a few Poké Balls from his waist, and as the blue light flashed, three Pokémon appeared before them.
Natsui looked at the three Pokémon. It was a Sneasel, a Zubat, and a Gastly.
I really don't understand. He already has these good Pokémon. Why did he still go to Professor Elm's lab to steal a starter?
