As expected, just as Natsui thought, she is the girl named Casey.
He just hadn't expected that after parting ways with her yesterday afternoon, a whole night had passed, and she had only traveled such a short distance.
He figured that since it was her first journey, she probably wanted to catch every Pokémon she encountered, which was why she had wasted all her time on catching Pokémon.
"My name is Natsui, also a trainer." After speaking, Natsui introduced Sabrina. "This is Sabrina, my companion."
Sabrina crossed her arms, lifted her head slightly with an air of arrogance, her long, straight black hair fluttering gently, showing no intention of greeting her.
"Natsui?"
Casey frowned, feeling that the name was somewhat familiar. Looking at Natsui's face more closely, she felt that she had seen him somewhere before.
"Ah! I remember now!" she suddenly shrieked, pointing at Natsui and shouting, "You're that Indigo Conference champion! I saw a replay of your final match!"
Casey's voice was so loud that Natsui had to cover one of his ears.
"There's no need to be so surprised…" he said, shaking his head. "A champion is crowned every year at the conference. With all the regions combined, there must be at least a dozen champions in total. This year, it just happened to be my lucky year."
As he spoke, Natsui was secretly pleased with himself.
See, this is what a champion's modesty looks like. Even when recognized, one must remain humble.
"You're completely different from them!" Casey's eyes sparkled. "You're the champion who won with a perfect record! And it's not just me; my dad, mom, grandpa, grandma, and other relatives have all seen your matches! They all like you a lot too!"
At this point, as if realizing something, she said excitedly, "Oh, right! This is a rare opportunity! Please have a battle with me!"
"A battle with you?"
Natsui looked her up and down.
She knows I won the championship and still wants to challenge me?
He could only say that Casey was a rookie who didn't yet have a clear understanding of other trainers' strengths, nor did she know what fear was.
But thinking about it from another perspective, if Ash were in the wild and met a champion he had seen on TV, he would definitely not be able to control himself and would challenge them too.
But…
She was, after all, a new trainer just starting her journey, and his own Pokémon…
Natsui thought and thought.
If I use Charizard, Gengar, Gardevoir, or Gyarados, wouldn't that be bullying her too much?
Even if I use Jolteon, Crystal Onix, Scyther, or Venusaur, she clearly has no chance of winning, right?
But seeing the girl's large, watery eyes filled with anticipation, Natsui found it hard to refuse.
"Alright… let's have a battle then."
"Yay!"
Seeing Natsui agree, Casey ran backward with a joyful expression, creating a large open space between them.
She bowed and said politely, "This is my first battle with another trainer. Please go easy on me!"
Waving his hand, Natsui said with a helpless smile, "It's just a casual spar, not a competition. There's no need to be so formal."
As he spoke, Natsui was also thinking to himself about which Pokémon he should use to seem 'evenly matched' with her, so as not to traumatize her too much.
Finally, he took out Dratini's Poké Ball.
On the other side, Casey instructed the Chikorita at her feet, "Go, Chikorita! This opponent is very strong! Let's go right in with a fastball!"
Chikorita nodded, then trotted to the center of the field.
"Dratini, it's up to you!"
Natsui opened the Poké Ball, and with a flash of blue light, a small, snake-like Pokémon appeared in front of Chikorita.
"Wow, it's a Dratini! This is the first time I've ever seen one! It's so cute!"
Casey's eyes widened as she looked at the Pokémon in front of her in disbelief. Even as a rookie trainer, she knew how rare and precious a Dratini was.
To think that Natsui had one.
Subconsciously, she took out her Pokédex and pointed it at Dratini.
Pokédex: Beep. Dratini, the Dragon Pokémon. A Dragon type. As a serpentine Pokémon, Dratini is covered in light-blue scales and has a pair of purple eyes. It has white fins on the sides of its head and a large, round, white nose. They generally live near fast-flowing water, such as waterfalls, and grow by repeatedly shedding their skin.
After Casey put away her Pokédex, Natsui smiled faintly and explained the rules of the match.
"This will be a 1-on-1 battle with no special restrictions. The first to make the opponent's Pokémon unable to battle wins."
"Mhm, mhm!" Casey nodded repeatedly. "I understand!"
Seeing her innocent expression, Natsui couldn't help but sigh quietly.
In fact, for Casey, this was a battle she was destined to lose.
In terms of typing, although Dragon is not super-effective against Grass, Grass-type moves do half damage to Dragon-types.
It could be said that against Dratini, Casey's Chikorita was at a natural disadvantage.
Normally, against a rookie like Casey, Natsui wouldn't use type advantage to bully her. But among his Pokémon, only Dratini was relatively weak. Sending it out was his only option.
And clearly, as a rookie trainer, Casey, lacking experience, was not yet aware of this information.
Just then, Sabrina walked to the side.
Acting as the temporary referee for this match, she saw that both Pokémon were ready and said flatly, "Begin."
Casey instantly got into the zone. She swung her baseball bat and launched an attack.
"Chikorita, use Razor Leaf!"
Even though the damage would be halved, Natsui still didn't choose to take it head-on.
"Dratini, fly up!"
Hearing Natsui's command, without any visible movement, Dratini suddenly rose into the air, dodging the dozen or so sharp leaves.
With the pearl-like object on its head, even without wings, it could fly freely in the sky like a bird.
"Use Twister!"
After dodging the Razor Leaf, Dratini opened its mouth, and the next second, a huge whirlwind appeared on the field, growing larger and larger as it swept towards Chikorita.
"Dodge it quickly!" Casey shouted.
But Chikorita was not known for its speed, and the Twister was moving too fast. In the blink of an eye, Chikorita was already caught in it.
Chikorita's body was tossed around inside the Twister like a coin in a washing machine. When the wind dissipated, it fell to the ground with a 'thud', stars circling above its head.
