Chapter 336 - Chapter 335: The Ruins of Alph

The Ruins of Alph?

Natsui searched his memory. He did have some impression of this place. He knew that besides the fossils of ancient Pokémon embedded in the strata, the ruins were also filled with many unsolved mysteries.

Not only did a mysterious Pokémon unknown to humans—the Unown—lurk here, but it also concealed the entrance to the Sinjoh Ruins.

Perhaps the people of this world were unfamiliar with the Sinjoh Ruins, but Natsui, who had played the games, knew that within them was an altar called the 'Mystri Stage,' which was built specifically for worshipping Arceus.

And Arceus was known as the strongest Pokémon, the 'Creator God'.

As long as one reached there and made an offering to Arceus, one could receive the blessing of that Creator God.

He never thought that getting lost would lead him here by a stroke of luck.

Although he currently had no way of entering the Sinjoh Ruins, it was still nice to look around. By rummaging through the rocks and soil, he might be lucky enough to find a few fossils, or make some other unexpected discovery.

Despite having this plan in mind, Natsui didn't immediately start digging blindly everywhere. Instead, he and Sabrina first passed through the canyon, followed the well-trodden dirt path, and arrived at the building at the end.

As they got closer, they discovered that this huge domed building was a multi-functional research center that combined research, ecology, and exhibitions.

Since the exhibition hall was open to the public for free, the two of them pushed open the main door and walked in.

The air conditioning was on inside, making the temperature much more pleasant than outside.

The first floor of the research center was the exhibition hall. At a glance, it was divided into many different exhibition areas, and most of the exhibits were related to fossils.

On the side, there was a large door leading to another area. Natsui glanced at the sign and saw that it led to the Ancient Pokémon Park, but perhaps because it was not yet completed, it was temporarily not open to the public.

Besides them, there were a few other tourists wandering around at this time, which kept the place from feeling too deserted.

Soft lights shone on the exhibits, as if draping them in a mysterious veil.

Natsui smiled at Sabrina and offered her his hand.

Sabrina smiled back and gently took his arm.

The couple in love wandered through the exhibition hall, occasionally stopping in front of a display case to carefully examine the exhibits inside and talk in low voices.

The exhibits themselves were not particularly rare, mostly just Pokémon fossils, including Kabutops, Omanyte, Anorith, and Lileep.

As they were walking, Natsui suddenly stopped in front of a display stand.

He looked inside and saw an sculpture. Although there were many differences in the details, it bore a striking resemblance to the mythical Pokémon—Hoopa.

Just as he was leaning in for a closer look, a middle-aged researcher in a lab coat walked up beside him.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" the researcher said, also looking at the display case, as if talking to himself. "It's hard to imagine that in ancient times, when technology was not so advanced, people could already create such works of art."

Natsui turned his head and saw that this man was very tall, quite burly for a researcher. He had spiky hair and, unlike other researchers who seemed serious, he gave off a very cheerful impression.

Seeing Natsui look at him, the researcher introduced himself. "Hello, my name is Satake. I'm the researcher at the Ruins of Alph Park. Excuse me, Mr. Natsui, are you here specifically for a tour?"

Natsui looked at him in surprise. "You know me?"

"Of course, you're very famous, after all," Satake nodded. "I saw your matches, so I recognized you the moment you walked in. And I've also read the paper you published with Professor Oak and Professor Ivy."

That paper again…

He never thought that just by getting a little credit from the two professors, he would become known to so many people.

Of course, for Natsui, this wasn't a bad thing. At the very least, he could strike up a conversation with these people, which, just like now, could bring some convenience to his travels.

Seeing Natsui's enlightened expression, Satake added, "Oh, I forgot to mention. I studied at Celadon University and was a student of Professor Oak."

Another student from Celadon University…

It had to be said, Professor Oak's students were truly everywhere. Not only was his own reputation extremely high, but his students were also spread across every corner of the world, playing important roles.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," Natsui said, shaking his hand in a friendly manner. "May I ask what your field of research is, Mr. Satake?"

"I specialize in ancient Pokémon history," Satake said with a hearty laugh. "Some people believe that Pokémon appeared about two million years ago, a theory that comes from the Kabuto fossils in the strata. However, I advocate for the theory of marine origin for Pokémon. I believe their appearance should be even earlier than two million years ago."

The theory of marine origin?

He never thought that a different world would have the same theories.

Turning back, Natsui looked at the sculpture before him again. "Mr. Satake, why do I feel that this… work of art, looks a lot like…"

Satake finished his sentence, "It looks a lot like Hoopa, right?"

"Yes."

Satake chuckled. "Actually, there has always been evidence that at some point in the past, some of the early people of the Sinnoh region migrated here and integrated into Johto. And along the way, these people also incorporated many features from other regions, including Kalos. That's why the sculpture we see now looks similar to Hoopa, but not quite the same."

"I see!"

As a transmigrator, Natsui hadn't attended school in the Pokémon world and didn't know much about its history. Now that he had finally met an authority in this field, he humbly asked for guidance.

"Excuse me, Mr. Satake, what exactly are the Ruins of Alph?"

Perhaps because he had a good impression of Natsui, Satake told him everything he knew.

"About 1500 years ago, the earliest civilization records of the Johto region appeared. And its birthplace is this place we call the Ruins of Alph. Although no one knows who built this place, research shows that the civilization here is very ancient, and even the earliest writing system appeared here."

Under Satake's introduction, Natsui finally gained a deeper understanding of this world.

And the more he understood, the more he felt a sense of belonging to this world, and the more he grew to love it.

Just then, Satake added, "By the way, we provide free tools here. If you're interested, you can go outside and try your luck to see if you can find any rare fossils."
