Chapter 337 - Chapter 336: The Dig and Satake's Request

Hearing Satake's suggestion, and since Natsui had the same idea in mind, he nodded and followed him to a warehouse. After receiving a set of digging tools, including a shovel and a brush, he walked out of the research center again.

This was the advantage of knowing people. In the Ruins of Alph Park, they offered a digging experience for visiting tourists. But normally, although the equipment looked simple, a certain deposit was required to rent it. But now, with a wave of Satake's hand, it was all waived.

Although the deposit was a small amount of money and not worth mentioning, being able to enjoy such special treatment was still very pleasant.

After leaving, Satake had other matters to attend to, so he excused himself and left.

Watching him walk away, Natsui and Sabrina returned to the canyon. This time, looking carefully, they could see that on both sides of the dirt path, there were mounds of fresh soil and rubble that hadn't been transported out yet, as well as rows of temporary scaffolding.

Among them, a large group of archaeological staff was busy, engrossed in digging something.

Natsui glanced over and saw a complete Aerodactyl fossil embedded in the rock, being slowly cleaned by people with brushes. The lines of its skeleton were so clear and complete, showing that it had been very well preserved.

And this made Natsui look forward to his own digging with great anticipation.

Maybe I'll dig up something good too.

Passing through these people, Natsui and Sabrina came to a quiet corner.

"Let's do it here."

Seeing Natsui about to swing his shovel and start digging, Sabrina asked in surprise, "Are you really going to do some archaeology!?"

"Of course," Natsui laughed. "Traveling isn't just about battling all the time. Of course, you also have to relax appropriately. Just think of it as an experience. What? Do you want to join in too?"

Sabrina naturally had no such interest and didn't want to get dirty. She sat down on a nearby rock, propped her chin on her hand, and watched him quietly.

Natsui chose what he thought was an excellent spot, then, with both hands, he brought the shovel down hard.

Heave-ho! Heave-ho!

Dust flew, and the fresh soil he dug out piled up higher and higher beside him.

At first, he was full of enthusiasm, but after digging for a few minutes, he gradually lost his patience.

Looking at the not-so-small hole he had dug, he couldn't help but wipe the sweat from his forehead.

All he could say was, the idea was beautiful, but reality was very cruel.

Archaeology was clearly a job that required both physical strength and patience, as well as a steadfast, calm heart. But clearly, Natsui, who had just been struck by a whim, couldn't just keep repeating this tedious digging, one shovelful after another.

Moreover, having dug for so long and found nothing, he was slowly losing interest.

His eyes darted around, and Natsui cleared his throat, calling out Gengar.

"What is it?" Gengar floated out of his shadow, looking at him sideways.

Pointing to the ground with his chin, Natsui said, "Go underground and see if there are any fossils nearby, so I don't have to waste unnecessary energy like I just did."

"Why me?" Gengar yawned, looking reluctant. "For such a troublesome task, why don't you ask Crystal Steelix?"

Natsui shook his head. "It's too conspicuous. And its body is too large; it could easily damage the strata if it digs. You're the most suitable one. Alright, stop dawdling and get down there."

Left with no choice, Gengar could only sink into the ground. It wasn't until seven or eight minutes later that it re-emerged.

"What a shame. The spot you chose is very remote. There are no fossils underneath at all," Gengar said, its tone seeming to carry a hint of schadenfreude. "Even for a decent-sized rock, the closest one would require digging down another ten meters or so."

Another ten meters!?

Natsui raised his eyebrows. This time, he had completely lost his patience and simply threw the shovel aside.

"Forget it. Let's go check out the ruins over there. This archaeology work really isn't for me."

Watching this scene, Sabrina had a smile at the corner of her eyes but didn't say anything. She just stood up and walked with Natsui towards the ruins on the other side of the canyon.

They were called ruins, but in fact, they were just over a dozen stone chambers clustered together like 'houses.'

These chambers were all built with heavy stone slabs, very primitive. And from the traces of wind and rain on them, it was impossible to tell how long they had been there; they were already quite severely weathered.

They really smell of the ravages of time…

Because they were considered cultural relics, tourists were not allowed to enter here. Natsui walked up to the security line and stood there for a while. He was about to turn and leave, but then he saw Satake again. After greeting him, he was allowed to enter.

Satake smiled. "How was the experience? Did you find anything?"

"No, besides dirt, just ordinary rocks. I didn't even see a shadow of a fossil," Natsui sighed, a bit discouraged. He returned the tools to him, then looked up and at the buildings. "So these are the Ruins of Alph?"

"That's right," Satake nodded. "These are the real Ruins of Alph, and also the only well-preserved ancient architectural complex in the Johto region."

While Satake was introducing it, Natsui also looked around. Besides Satake, there were many other researchers exploring, as if they were looking for something. But these stone chambers didn't even have doors or windows, and they were empty inside, so there didn't seem to be anything worth noting.

"What are you looking for?"

"Actually, we don't know what we're looking for either. We just have a feeling that these ruins are not as simple as they appear on the surface, so we thought we'd search them carefully again."

At this point, a thought suddenly struck Satake. "By the way, Mr. Natsui, could you do me a favor?"

"A favor?" Natsui raised his eyebrows. "Have you run into some tricky problem?"

"Not really," Satake said helplessly. "It's just that recently, we've occasionally seen some mysterious Pokémon appearing in the ruins. But when we want to find them, we can't find any trace of them at all. I think… perhaps because we researchers don't understand the habits of Pokémon very well, we can't find them. So I was hoping that you, as a trainer, could try and see if you can find any clues."

Mysterious Pokémon?

Hearing him say this, Natsui thought for a moment. The only thing that could be called mysterious here must be the Unown hidden here.

"A favor is no problem, of course," Natsui agreed without any hesitation. "But I'm just an ordinary person. Please don't get your hopes up…"
