Chapter 76 - 126

Chapter 126 Another Targaryen

"Drag Jon in here, I'll heal his wounds! You're the wildling woman Jon was talking about?" The door was pushed open, and Sam's huge figure stepped out and said.

After the wildlings stormed in, he hid inside the house, too afraid to come out, and witnessed almost the entire scene of how Jon was injured.

He only dared to come out and heal Jon because he knew that the wildling woman wouldn't hurt him.

Hearing Sam's words, Ygritte was surprised that Jon had mentioned her to others. Looking at Sam's honest and simple appearance, she knew that he probably wouldn't do anything to harm her or Jon.

However, just to be on the safe side, she checked on Jon, who was still not unconscious, and only when he nodded at her did she quickly drag him into the house.

Sam closed the door and bolted it shut. He had Ygritte help Jon Snow up, then he brought out the medicine, undid Jon Snow's clothes, carefully removed the two arrows, applied the medicine, and bandaged him up.

Looking at Jon Snow lying on the bed, Ygritte didn't know whether she should leave or stay.

She naturally wanted to go out and continue killing the Night's Watch, but those were Jon's brothers, and he had just saved her. If she went out and killed more Night's Watch members, how would she face Jon in the future?

"You can stay here for now! By the way, my name is Samwell, from the Tully family, and you are…" Sam noticed Ygritte's hesitation.

"My name is Ygritte." The savage only had a given name, not a surname.

"you..."

"Bang bang bang..."

Just as Sam was about to make conversation, the door was pounded on. Through the window, Sam saw it was the Night's Watch and gestured for Ygritte to hide.

"Sam, you've been hiding here!" The person outside the door said with a mocking expression when he saw Sam.

"Jon was seriously wounded by an arrow, and I can only take care of him here," Sam said, glancing at Jon on the bed.

"Hmph!" The person outside knew that Sam was not cut out for fighting. Seeing Jon lying on the bed with a pale face, he didn't say anything more, closed the door, and went out to continue fighting the wildlings.

Sam bolted the door shut, letting Ygritte out. Ygritte knew she could no longer go out to fight, so she could only stay with Jon, anxiously waiting for the outcome of the siege outside.

More than an hour later, there was another knock on the door. Sam saw that it was Piper and immediately opened the door.

"Jon...who is she?" Piper had rushed over to check on Jon after the siege ended, upon hearing that Jon was injured, only to find a woman in the room, dressed as a wildling.

"She's Jon's…" Sam saw the two of them making a move to grab weapons and hurriedly introduced her, but he stopped halfway through, not knowing what else to say.

However, Piper understood his meaning, sheathed the longsword he had drawn halfway, and went to Jon's bedside to check on his injuries.

Although Jon was a little drowsy, he couldn't fall asleep. With the constant shouts of battle outside, how could he possibly rest and recover in peace?

"How's it going outside?" Jon asked, enduring the pain in his chest, as he saw Piper enter.

"We held her." Piper finished speaking and looked at Ygritte, who looked surprised and uncertain, and said again, "She can't stay here, you should know that."

The Night's Watch had always been very unhappy with Jon Snow's joining the Wildlings. Although he was interrogated by Allissa and others and proved that he joined to gather information, Allissa's faction still vehemently opposed him.

If they discover that he has hidden a wild woman again, he will surely bring up the old matter again, and it will be hard to say whether Ygritte will survive.

"I'm leaving now!" Ygritte said to Jon, seeing that his injuries weren't too serious and that she would only cause him trouble if she stayed.

"You…cough cough…let Piper escort you out of the castle when it gets dark." Jon knew Ygritte was strong-willed, but if she went out now, she would only be captured or killed by the Night's Watch.

Piper glanced at Ygritte, who had been stopped by Jon, and said, "Hide here for now, I'll come find you tonight."

Knowing that Piper was worthy of Jon's trust, Ygritte nodded silently.

Jon Snow was not overly pleased with the victory in a small-scale siege by the wildlings, as more wildlings were gathering outside the Wall.

That evening, Ygritte, dressed in a black robe, was quietly escorted out of Castle Black by Piper, allowing Jon to recuperate in peace.

However, the next day he received bad news from Sam: Maester Aemon was seriously ill and might not make it through this time.

Sam helped him up to the centenarian Targaryen who had once had the chance to sit on the Iron Throne but had given it to his brother.

Seeing his frail and nearly lifeless face, Jon felt a pang of sorrow.

This true Night's Watch maester had kept his oath for seventy years and had helped him many times, but seeing his weakened state, he felt powerless to do anything about it.

"Sam, how is she now?" Seeing Sam helping Jon over, Aemon nodded gently to Jon and then asked Sam.

Jon looked at Sam with some confusion, wondering who the "she" Maester Aemon was talking about was, and why the dying Maester Aemon was so attached to her.

"Daenerys's academy has opened and started teaching, and she has also established a council of ministers with Tyrion as her hand of state," Sam told Aemon, relaying the new information he had received about Slaver's Bay.

"Who is Daenerys? What is the University? And Tyrion Lannister has become his Hand of the King?" Jon was astonished by Sam's answer.

After he returned, he was busy building fortifications and didn't understand what Sam was saying, but he couldn't bring himself to ask.

"I never imagined that a little girl like her could do so well. She probably doesn't even know that a dying Targaryen has been silently watching her from the ends of the earth, unable to do anything for her," Aemon said with a hint of shame, looking up at the distant sky.

"You should be proud of her; it's remarkable that the Targaryen family has produced such an outstanding member," Sam said, comforting Maester Aemon, who looked ashamed.

"I really want to visit the academy she founded..." Imon withdrew his slightly raised gaze, somewhat regretfully.

A few minutes later...

"Scholar Aemon? Scholar Aemon!"

Jon was still wondering who the girl the two were talking about was when he suddenly heard Sam call out. He looked up at Maester Aemon, who had already closed his eyes.

The passing of Maester Aemon is a great loss to the Night's Watch. This highly respected old man was not only learned and skilled in medicine, but also the leader and brains of the Night's Watch.

After Aemon's death, Sam wrote a solemn eulogy for him, mourning the 100-year-old Night's Watchman who kept his oath until his death.

After cremating Maester Aemon, Jon Snow, having recovered from his injuries, threw himself into reinforcing the Wall's defenses in preparation for a larger Wildling siege.
