MHGA Chapter 270 — Epilogue
The chaos in Night City persisted for quite some time.
Arasaka Tower had been completely destroyed, and even Saburo Arasaka had died in the attack… just like when Johnny Silverhand and his crew once blew up Arasaka Tower and killed Saburo's eldest son.
On that same day, every single person in Night City had their cyberware forcibly rejected by newly regenerated flesh, whether they wanted it or not.
Many believed it to be a divine miracle—some even began spreading the news online… though such posts swiftly vanished from the net.
Inside Arasaka, after a brief power struggle, Raizen Arasaka gained control over the majority of the corporation's authority.
With Saburo Arasaka gone, the company did indeed experience some unrest—but that was quickly quelled by Raizen.
Other megacorps had originally tried to take advantage of Arasaka's instability. However, during the turmoil, many of their facilities and factories were raided by mercenaries and suffered severe losses themselves, unable to move against Arasaka.
As it turned out… those factory raids had been orchestrated by Rogue. She'd placed the right bet during the chaos, made a hefty profit, and even earned herself a personal favor from Raizen Arasaka.
Now freed from Saburo's suppressive grip and Hanako's entanglements, Raizen had essentially unshackled his potential—and swiftly consolidated near-complete control of Arasaka. The remaining factions that had opposed him were left with virtually no power to resist.
"Give me a bit more time—and I'll make Arasaka the greatest support for both me and David!" Raizen declared, his eyes burning with youthful fire and vigor far beyond his years.
Arasaka Tower was undergoing reconstruction, and in the blueprints, Raizen had reserved a large office space—specially placed high in the tower—as a gift for David.
In a way… David had become the man standing atop Arasaka Tower, albeit by different means.
As for the Hunters, they recovered all the Kirin materials and stored them in the Gathering Hub's communal warehouse as shared property.
Kairo Retsu began planning: if the Kirin materials weren't enough to make full Master Rank gear, perhaps they could instead forge a few sets of High Rank armor. That way, Hunters could start adapting to higher-grade gear.
And so, the Hunter Guild gradually disappeared from the streets of Night City.
At Afterlife, Rogue sat at the bar, staring complexly at the man across from her sipping milk.
These Hunters had stirred up Night City on an unprecedented scale—even killing Saburo Arasaka—and yet here they were, sitting before her without a care, openly declaring that they were here to say farewell to the city.
"David said he'd send fresh milk regularly," Kairo Retsu grinned at Rogue. "So… now the Hunters' drinks are qualified to stay on the Afterlife drink menu, right?"
"I'm thinking of giving you psychos your own menu," Rogue muttered, her expression conflicted. "You guys… you're not from this world, are you? Aliens? Or something else entirely? Goddammit… I never thought, at my age, I'd be having sci-fi thoughts like this. But there's no other way to explain what's happened."
"Bingo. We're from another world. And now it's time to head back," Kairo said casually. "Thanks for the collaboration—it's been a blast."
"You're insane… Are you guys some kind of living saints? Do you know Jesus or something?" Rogue muttered, thinking back to everything that had happened in Night City. "Why did you even do all this?"
"To make things better for someone," Kairo replied as he dug into his pack and pulled out a data chip, sliding it across to Rogue. "A little gift for you."
"A chip? What's on it?" Rogue asked, curious, and reached to slot it into her neural port—only for Kairo to stop her.
"It's a contact link—don't insert it directly. The program lets you reach a certain old-timer who's still pretty young at heart."
Kairo crossed his arms. "Johnny Silverhand. You remember how Arasaka kidnapped Alt and made her build that thing, right? Well, Johnny's engram—extracted by Soulkiller—was stored in Mikoshi's lab. Before Mikoshi exploded, Joseph used Spirit Imprinting to write Johnny's engram onto that chip. He's now awakened inside a newly built server."
"Huh?" Rogue blinked in shock. Kairo gave her the rundown:
Johnny Silverhand's consciousness had been extracted by Soulkiller and imprisoned in Mikoshi. Joseph used Spirit Imprinting just before the Mikoshi data explosion to transfer Johnny's engram into a chip, which was then uploaded to a fresh server.
"You wanna know what Johnny wanted to do after waking up? He thought we were Arasaka dogs and tried to kill us," Kairo laughed. "Took a lot of convincing to talk him down. It was hilarious."
"Ha… the thought of that bastard waking up to find himself trapped in a server box—honestly, it's fitting karma." Rogue grinned in spite of herself. "Alright. I'll contact him."
"Well, that's that. I should be heading out too," Kairo said, downing the last of his milk before rising from his seat.
Rogue called out to stop him. After a brief hesitation, she asked, "So… what do you think Night City's future will be?"
"Don't ask me. It's not my city—or my world," Kairo shrugged. "You should ask David… ask someone young, who still has infinite potential."
"All we did was strike the first match in this rotting city—to clear the damp, to dry the kindling that couldn't catch fire."
"As for how to keep the fire burning brighter… that's no longer our job."
Rogue nodded. "Alright. I get it."
"Looks like I need to change the way I live too…"
