After approximately four hours of carefully circumventing the uneven edge of the canyon, I finally slowed my pace. My calves ached, and the moving sands were getting on my last nerve.
'I never knew someone could miss solid ground!' I sighed.
The twins, though stubborn in their way, looked about ready to collapse. Their steps had grown sluggish, Ayesha's small feet dragging lines in the sand while Abu clutched his stomach with both hands to muffle the growl it just made.
I halted on the lee side of a dune, signaling for them to sit. Pulling my pack forward, I fished out two cans of fish and a couple of boxes of milk. The sound of metal clinking together was enough to make Abu's eyes brighten, though he tried to look composed.
